  1. I know this is ridiculously of topic, but I have a story concerning cats. While I was sitting in on a lecture on Quantum mechanics, a professor brought to my attention a simple method to destroy the universe using merely a cat, peanut butter and one slice of bread. Heres how it works. Well, everyone knows that a cat ALWAYS lands on it feet. But is it not also true that a peice of bread with peanut butter on one side ALWAYS lands peanut-butter side down? Both of these statements are invariably true. So all you have to do is place a slice of bread with its peanutbutter side up on the back of a cat and then drop it off of a ledge. Resultantly, you will see the cat float in quantum indecision and the universe will implode. Please dont bring this thread to the attention of any terrorist groups/factions. Thanks.
  2. Ive been doing some reading and found that for ported enclosures, that drivers with a Qts of less than .4 are best. So, I have come to the conclusion that if I make a ported enclsure, then I am going to use the Dayton Titanic, but if I decide to use a sealed enclosure, then I am going to use the AE AV15.
  3. OK thanks for the reply. So what shape/design should this bracing take on, are any rules involved in its designing? Also, if I add stuffing, do I have to add the volume of stuffing to the total volume of the box as well, or does it not work that way.
  4. Does that AE AV15 have dual voice coils wired in series (4 ohms)? or am I reading something wrong, I want to make sure so I can model it correctly.
  5. I just need to make a simply clarification of my understanding of volume. When I say I want to make and enclosure of say 100 liters, then the 100 liters is the total amout of free air space INSIDE the walls of the MDF right? The 1" walls of the MDF should not count as volume right? However, say I add a port with a volume of 1 liter according to the above statement that the volume is just the air space inside the material. I will have to compensate for the volume of air inside the port AND the volume of the material making the port since I will have to adjust the enclosure volume accordingly, right? Am I making sense? One other thing, are there any other structures that go into the enclosure other than the port, amp, and walls? are there bracings that I have to take into account to adjust volume?
  6. Heres what I got for a ported enclosure.
  7. I dont mean to be insolent, but you didnt really answer either of my questions.
  8. Wouldnt putting a port in that significantly increase low end response? Is a ported enclosure too advanced for me?
  9. All of this sounds good to me, and I would love to model it, but I am having difficulties entering correct data for the MKIII and the other drivers it says something about inconsistencies. If anyone has successfully and accurately modeled these drivers, an upload of the .wdr file(s) would be greatly appreciated for any/all of these drivers.
  10. Wow thats great info, I do like to looks and price of that driver as well! Efficiency wise, if I were to go with this AE driver, should I go with a BASH amp on partsexpress or should i get one of the Class G amps on partsexpress? Is 250 watts enough to drive this to acceptable levels? I dont want to buy more amplifier than I need. I know everyone is going to laugh at me, but the actual use for this sub is going to be an add on to my Promedia Ultra 5.1 using the SWS link. Therefore, this sub isnt going to have to have huge output levels by itself, because I am running it as a second subwoofer (less distortion, a bit more punch and overall output is my goal). I would really like to design the cabinet so the PMU sub can sit atop it due to space constraints. Who knows, if I like the direction this sub will take my PMU's in, then maybe Ill get some RSX's for it sometime in the future. Also, you may ask why not go with something less expensive if you are going to put iit with your PMU's, but the answer is because I will probably hook it up to something else in the future, and I want it to perform well. Also, if it is going to need more powere to perform by itself later on, then I can always buy a new more powerful amp for it. Again, this is primarily a learning experience, so I decided what the heck, if I am going to have an extra sub lying around, may as well hook it up to something!
  11. Im at work now, so when I get home ill give it a go, do some modeling, and post my results. Are there any tips or tricks to this program, or is it pretty straightforward and easy to use?
  12. Due to money constraints, I think that I will be going with either the Dayton Titanic MKIII or the Adire Shiva, or perhaps the Ascendant Avalanche, all the 15" versions. What are advantages/disadvantages/experiences with each? I am torn between the sealed and ported enclosure, but I feel that if the sub can hit about 27-30 hz with authority, even with a fairly steep roll off lower than that, then it will be an immense success. Or am I asking too much of these drivers? I want this sub to be a good all around performer for music and for movies. Im going to research the difference between sealed and ported some more, anyone feel free to give opinions, impressions experiences, numbers, statistics, and comparisons between thee drivers and the enclosures!! I need all that good stuff!!
  13. OK. I have had this insatiable urge lately to build something, anything, that makes some sound. I have never built anything like this before, and have minimal woodworking skills, but I have ready access to someone who has had 30+years of woodworking experience and is willing to help. I was just wondering if building a subwoofer is an ok place to start my endeavors. I understand tat they are probably more expensive and complicated to build, because they need an amplifier. I have always though that it is better to jump in right away, and then learn to swim rather than get in gradually, so that is why I want to try to build a subwoofer. I understand that careful planning must go into designing a subwoofer, and even though this is meant to be a learing experience, I would love for the finished product to be something that will be of use to me in years to come. I have been looking at some drivers, and have heard a great many things about the Dayton Titanic mkIII. I was wondering if anyone would give me pointers to some designs. Also, what does anyone think about the suggested project ideas on partsexpress.com? Is this do-able? Where should I be looking for a sub amplifier? What materials or modeling programs will I need? If in fact building a sub is most likely beyond me, then where is a good place to start learning?

You are, however, neglecting to factor in the WAF!
  15. Im stunned that noone has reccomended the RSW-15 as an alternative! It will compliment the timbre of your RF-7's perfectly!! If you can, go to a retailer and see if they will let you take one home to demo it. It is a GREAT amount of BASS power for the money. I cant stress how great it will sound with your RF-7's after all, they were built for each other. Truly a match made in heaven!

In the tests I have run, the Mac's were a hundred times easier to compromise than their windows counterparts. Although if security is an issue the use Linux or UNIX. If you dont want ANYONE to EVER compromise your computer, then use OpenBSD (only 1 documented compromise EVER). The only good thing about Macs is that noone wants to waste thier time writing virii and adware for them. That was a long time ago though. I dont know anything about their new OS versions. If you want performance however, Mac is not for you. Their R+D just cant keep up with the big companies. Their dual processore "dream computers" are a bad joke.
  17. Superb. All A's all the way thru high school. I also got 5's on the Chemistry, Calculus BC, Biology and Statistics AP tests. My ACT score is a 34. My SAT score is a 1520. My NEW SAT score is a 2350. I also have a life outside of school and a beautiful girlfriend. Life is good.
  18. I have done alot of testig with different video cards, and I can tell you that the Ti 4200 is MORE THAN sufficint for the HTPC idea. There is no reason to go and buy a new expensive card if you just want to use it for DVD playback. The video out function of the gnvidia cards have not undergone dramatic changes since the old TNT 2 cards, so the only thing that you will be getting out of the new card vs the old is faster clock speeds, and better video rendering for games, which are MUCH more grahics card intensive than DVDs are. A DVD can be played using on board video that some computers have. A video card (such as the Ti 4200) make a VERY significant difference in quality, but I personally cannot tell the difference from one of my GeForce Ti 4600 to my 6800 GT OC. Though if you must upgrade, stick with the Nvidia cards, I have found that their video out is more robust than the ATI cards for external video, even than the X800.
  19. Hell, just give me some 6 gauge pure copper wire and I little bit of plastidip, and Ill take it to work and use the nitrogen chamber (99.8% Anaerobic) to make you some fantastic cables! Ill even do it for free, just as long as you dont buy this garbage!
  20. Just curious about the THX Ultra 2. Does this system perform well with music, or is it built primarily for movies. That said, which is better balanced for excellent performance of misic/movie playback, the THX Ultra 2, or Pair of RF-7s, and RC-7,an RSW-12, and a couple of old Advent surrounds?
  21. For you Dream Theater fans, have you listened to Scenes from a Memory? That is definately my favorite. Images and words is also an EXCELLENT album, Im listening to that tonight.
  22. Ill change it up a bit. Tonight a have about 3.5 hours to listen to music. Here is the schedule. Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence Dream Theater - Octavarium I havent listened to these since I got my RSW-15, so we will see what happens! If I dont post later tonight it will be because the kick bass drum knocked me out.
