  1. I recently recapped my Dynaco ST-70 amp and PAS-2 pre-amp and replaced the original rectifier with silicon diodes. I live in the Chicago suburbs and would be willing to coach you.
  2. I just finished refurbishing my Dynaco PAS-2 pre-amp and connected it to my Dynaco ST-70 amp and Klipsch Fortes. I could not believe how loud a 35 WPC amp could sound. I couldn't turn it up past 1/2 way due to the efficiency of the Forte's. I suppose its a good thing I don't have a pair of Klipschorns otherwise my wife would kick me out of the house. The Dynaco tube equipment sure made the Forte's sing. It makes me wonder why they stopped making Dynaco tube equipment after listening to the Klipsch/Dynaco combination. I still have a Dynaco FM-3 tuner and a Heathkit W-5M amp to refurbish, meanwhile I can enjoy the sweet sound of tubes through my Fortes.
  3. Glad to hear that you are back in business. My Dynaco 70 amp blew the 3 amp fuse when I had them hooked to my Forte's. I had the amp turned up and it played fine for about 1 1/2 hours then the fuse blew. I thought it was due to having my speakers hooked up to the 4 ohm output instead of the 8 ohm output, but I think that the amp got a little too hot.
  4. Make sure you match the output of the Dynaco for the correct impedance of your speakers. (8 ohm speakers should be connected to the 8 ohm output on the Dynaco.)
  5. There is a chunk of foam near the bottom of my Forte's (1). Near the bottom of the box there is a slanted piece of MDF with a chunk of foam (3" thick) on the top of the slanted MDF. This appears to be from the factory and not modified by the previous owner.
  6. Since I recently purchased my Klipsch Forte's I've been enjoying them with my vintage Pioneer SX-1980 (270 WPC) modified with a homemade tube pre-amp. They shure don't make them like they use to. The walnut veneer of my Klipsch speakers matches the walnut veneer of my Pioneer receiver.

The speaker was always the same: 4 ohm min/6 ohm average/8 ohm nominal. This was explained by Trey a while back over on the Tech Forum. Mark ---------------- Thanks Mark, That sounds logical to me - no pun intended.

Can you give us a picture with the grill off? Then we could really tell what they are. That passive woofer on the back looks like the a 15 incher. If so, you have forte 2's, and the sensitivity is 99db, not 98. If it is a original forte, I would like to know the difference, if any, between the ones with the square terminal box and the round one.--Did they just run out of one type, or are they from different years of production? Things that make you go hmmm!?? ---------------- They are Forte I's since I measured the passive radiator to be 12". The 15" comes closer to the edge of the sides and sits closer to the speaker cup. I suspect that the round cups were overruns from the Heresy II speakers that were relabled with Forte on them.
  9. I figured that was a joke based on your grin but I never underestimate what the Chinese can copy. The impedance of the speaker is nominal therefore the DMM will not display exactly 8 or 4 ohms. I have a feeling that the speaker cup was mislabled. I can always remove the passive radiator and take a peek inside to see what the woofer itself is labeled. It turns out that the original owner recently moved and the Forte's were not wife friendly in the new house. The original owner is from Elkhart Indiana which is the birthplace of Paul Klipsch. The speakers look like they are brand new, they have been well taken care of.
  10. Here are pictures of the Forte's I purchased: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5778275451&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1 I can't imagine the Chinese producing Klipsch copies that sound this good.

The speakers have "Nominal Impedeance: 4 Ohm" written on the rear speaker cup.

I LOVE my Forte' 2's never to be sold ... FUSE >>FUSE >>FUSE>>FUSE>>>FUSE fast blow 1.5 amp ---------------- I will fuse my speakers before hooking them back up to the Dynaco's. My Forte's are rated at 4 ohms, I even measured 4.4 Ohms with my DMM. The type of my Fortes are listed as "WO". Are there different types of Forte speakers?
  13. The Forte speakers I recently acquired list the type as "Forte - WO". They appear different then the other Forte I speaker pictures I have seen. The speaker jack cup on the back of the speakers are round instead of the rectangular shape. The nominal impeadance is listed as 4 ohms and the sensitivity is listed at 96 dB SPL. The other Forte specs list the impedance as 8 ohms and sensitivity as 98 dB SPL. The serial #'s indicate that they were built the 7th week of 1986. The speakers sound fantastic, just wondering if there were different types of Forte I speakers. Does anyone know what the "WO" is in reference to?
  14. Thanks for the replys & advice. I am a new form member but I am not new to Klipsch Forums. I been reading posts and searching the Forums for the last 8 months. The stories & expert advice has convinced me to purchase a vintage set of Klipsch speakers. Now that I am a Klipsch owner I decided to become a forum member. The sound from the Forte's continue to amaze me. Comparied to my old speakers it is like a heavy curtain has been removed and the sound is very much alive. I would like to move them upstairs into my living room (due to higher ceiling) but since I don't want to piss of the wife too much they are in my basement. Regarding speaker protection, I am considering installing circuit breakers instead of fuses - any advise using resettable breakers instead of one time fuses? I used the 4 ohm tap when I had the Forte's hooked to the Dynaco. I havn't had a chance to look at what cooked in the Dynaco amp.
  15. I replaced my Speakerlab S30's which have a fantistic low end but can't compare to the efficiency of the Klipsch.
  16. I picked up my first Klipsch speakers today (e-bay buy). I am the proud owner of a set of Klipsch Forte's I. I orignally hooked them up to my re-capped Dynaco 70's and listen to them for an hour. The main fuse blew (smelled like a resisitior blew). Then I hooked them up to my old Pioneer SX-1980 that I modified by connecting up a home made vacuum tube pre-amp. The sound is fantastic, the music seems like I have a live band in my basement. I am now a Klipsch-aholic!
