  1. Sounds like a great idea. Are you looking to build the subwoofer enclosures yourself or are you looking at a particular model sub?

You'll probably get more mid-bass and mid-range impact with the RF-82 or especially the RF-63 but I've heard that the RB-81s are very nice.

You might want to think about the vibration of the subwoofer affecting the sound output from the RB-81s if they're sitting directly on the subwoofers. I don't know how noticeably the sound would be affected but I have to imagine that the whole speaker vibrating from being so close to the sub might adversely affect the sound.

  2. It could have been worse, you could have found him in your closet or under the bed. Surprise

No kidding. I do always lock our house, even if I'm outside doing yardwork or anything else. Our entrance door is on the side of the house and you can't see it from the back yard. Unless you're on that side of the house.

I think this was the last straw for my wife. She's talked about moving before and now she really wants to get out of this neighborhood. Stinks because its a nice little house with a fenced in and nicely landscaped yard with a deck, garage, shed, etc. The previous owners did a ton of work to the house right before we bought it, too. New roof, central air, new appliances, new furnace, finished the basement, refinished the hardwood floors. And, with the economy the way it is, it isn't the greatest time to be selling a house. However, our neighbors right next door had their house up for sale for just a few months and just sold it.

  3. She went outside to water our plants and garden and our dog ran over to
the side garage door and started barking like crazy. She went over and
looked in the garage window and there was a guy passed out inside. She
ran inside the house and called 911. The police showed up and the guy
had no ID and gave them a false name. He said he had never been
arrested before. They took him to the police station and fingerprinted
him and called later on to say that this guy has a rap sheet that's 11 pages long.

He said that he wasn't feeling good and was just looking for somewhere to rest.

My wife called me at work right after it happened and of course I freaked out and flew home but the police were already gone.

Thankfully my wife was only shaken up by it. I don't know what crimes
the guy did in the past but obviously if his rap sheet is 11 pages long
he probably wouldn't think twice about hurting someone.

  4. Explosions, bass drum hits, etc. You'd have to have the volume turned up quite a bit to be pushing an actual 2000 watts through the subs. I would imagine there would be some decent distortion that may or may not be audible at that point.

  5. Hi wuzzer.

I noticed that you have replaced the fortes diaphragms with titanium.

Did you hear a big difference? Do you like them a lot better than the originals?

The titanium diaphragms were a very noticeable upgrade. I always felt the Forte IIs had a dynamic and smooth midrange but the factory tweeter had a slight edginess to it. Its hard to describe sound in words but to my ears the sound coming from the tweeters is more detailed and smooth. Very easy install to do and well worth the $60.

Here's my initial post and observations:

  6. Basic subwoofer settings:

Turn the crossover setting on the subwoofer itself as high as it can go - set phase to 0 - set sub's gain control to 10-11 o'clock position. {edit} If the RW-10d has digital adjustments for its gain control set it to just below the halfway point.} Subwoofer placement in a room can make a huge bearing on how much bass you hear/feel at your listening position.

I personally don't like what Audyssey does to the sound and only use it to measure speaker distance and to calibrate the levels between each speaker. Try turning it off and see what you think.

If you set your RF-62s to large and have the Marantz set to Both (which is what my 7001 calls it when both the sub and front speakers are outputting a full-range bass signal) in most instances you'll actually hear less bass. Anytime you have more than one speaker playing the same mono signal (you're sending the .1 LFE signal to three speakers as described above) bad things result such as phase cancellation. Start by setting the crossover on the Marantz to 80Hz. Listen to some bass heavy music and adjust the crossover down to 60Hz and up to 100Hz and see which setting you like best.

I would disable any lowpass settings on the RW-10d. Let your receiver handle that.

I like to see the horns/woofers of my speakers so that's why I leave my speaker grills off. Not a good idea if you have curious kids who will shove things into the horns or push in the woofer dust caps though.

Hopefully you can get everything set up the way you like! Feel free to take pictures of your setup so we can further help with speaker placement and other details!

  7. If you have several items for sale that are very different from each other it can take a long time to set up each listing. If they are the same or similar eBay lets you save your listing as a template and then you can list multiple items very quickly.
