My CD player is a Sony 200 disc changer that is about 10 years old. It's the first 200 disc model they made. Since I received my RF-25s I've found that certain CDs skip when I turn the music up loudly. So I decided to listen to them in my DVD player instead.
WOW. What a difference it made! Of course, my DVD player is only 1 year old. The part that surprises me most is that it's a Magnavox DVD player that I won at a work party that's worth about $50.
Makes me wonder how much better my system would sound with a decent CD player.
Highs are much more natural. With my Sony CD I found myself turning treble down quite a bit. With my DVD player I can play music with the EQ pretty much flat and not have any treble harshness except with certain recordings.
I'm appreciating these RF-25s more and more each day!

Dang, that's only about $100 more than I paid for my RF-25s. Great price, I hope you sell them! (BTW I'm from MN too!

My current setup consists of a 15" Definitive Technology powered sub connected via high level inputs and RF-25s for the mains. I'm thinking of adding a second smaller sub to even out the bass response in the room and a slightly smaller sub that's tighter and less boomy.
I've seen several subs on eBay, both from the Synergy and Reference Series. I don't necessarily need to get a Klipsch sub, though. Would adding a 10" powered sub make a noticeable difference in sound?

Most likely it will be in standard definition (SD). I have a digital cable box and there are several shows that say "Broadcast in HDTV (where available)" but they only are in HD if it's a separate channel that is listed as being HD.

My system does the same thing. If the volume is at the 'just audible' level it only comes from the right speaker. One more bump on the knob and it all evens out.

An older co-worker of mine has been bitten by the Bose marketing bug. She has a mini-cube system at her home and is looking to buy one for her lake home. Is there any tactful way that I can talk her into another system?
Gotta appreciate the simplicity of the Bose design, though. She hates things that are technical and in fact I had to help her copy a song from a CD onto cassette.
Are there any systems out there that give the simplicity of Bose without the arm and a leg cost?

The manual for the receiver just says to switch it to whatever the ohm rating of the speakers are. I don't know where the Def Tech manual is, but I don't remember it saying anything about ohm rating.
I guess I'll probably leave it in the 8ohm setting just to be on the safe side. I just thought the 4ohm setting may give my RF-25s a little more oomph.
Then again, if I end up blowing my Def Tech sub it'll always give me an excuse to upgrade!

My system consists of a Definitive Technology 15" 'Powerfield 15' powered subwoofer and RF-25 speakers. The subwoofer is using speaker level inputs, as my receiver does not have a subwoofer RCA output.
My receiver does have a 4ohm/8ohm switch. I would like to know if it is safe to run it in 4ohm mode or if it would cause any damage to the subwoofer.
Any help would be awesome! Thanks!

Ha! Sounds all too familiar. My wife couldn't understand why I wanted to get my Reference Series speakers. "What's wrong with the ones you have?" she kept saying. So finally I went to Ultimate Electronics with her and did an A/B comparision with my current speakers and the RF-25s. "Holy crap!" was all she said. She finally got it!

Wow, thanks for the warning! I've switched the 4/8 ohm before while the receiver was on, but only if there was no sound or very low sound playing. What damage could result from this?

I've had my RF-25s for almost two weeks now. I've gone through almost all of my 200+ CDs and listened to most of my favorite tracks from them. Watched several concert DVDs and a few DVD movies too.
One thing I noticed that if the recording is mediocre, it sounds really bad with the volume way up. I have a feeling that these speakers will have me searching for better quality recorded music in a hurry.
I've experimented a little with positioning and toeing-in of the speakers and think I've found the optimum for my listening room. If I really turn up the volume, I move my listening position back about 5 feet from where I normally sit. Helps to reduce the ringing ear effect.
The only person beside me to hear the speakers is my wife. Her comment on them? "They sound too clear. I don't like them. I like how our old speakers sounded. The voices were more muffled."
Needless to say, she has a smile on her face when she listens to her favorite music at louder than normal levels.If I had to use one word to describe my new speakers...clarity. Clarity that brings recorded sound alive more than a person can realize. Sitting in the dark, eyes closed, hearing and feeling Joe Walsh's fingers slide on his guitar. Flinching at gunshots. How anybody would buy anything other than Klipsch after doing an A/B comparison is beyond me.
Thanks goes out to my best friend who started me out with his humble .5 bookshelf speakers mated to a KG SW passive bandpass subwoofer, and to another friend who invited me over to listen to his RF-7s!

Yow, that's a bit of techno-savvy if I say so myself! Gotta love it. This is truly an awesome forum!
So, can someone give me a quick answer to this question: My SS receiver has a 4ohm/8ohm switch. Will it make any difference to my RF-25s what position it's in? I know that in the past when I've hooked up speakers that were labeled 4ohm and had the switch in the 4ohm position the lights on the front panel of the receiver would dim slightly with deep bass when I had the volume cranked up.

I brought my RF-25s home on Friday and had about 6" of space width-wise in my '97 SHO.

Congrats on the great speakers and the great price! A friend of mine has a pair of RF-7 speakers that he bought a few years ago. He had me to his place and I couldn't believe that music could sound so good.
I distinctly remember listening to Phil Collins "Take Me Home" and the triangle or whatever instrument that they play during the chorus was so clear it just about took my breath away.
On a side note, I'm expecting shipment on Friday of a pair of RF-25 speakers that I got on eBay for $461 including shipping, brand new in the box!

Thanks guys! The speakers arrive on Friday and I'll have fun experimenting with different setups. Already have the first few DVDs/CDs picked out that I'll listen to and watch!
P.S. Did I mention I picked the RF-25s up on eBay for $366 ($461 with insured shipping) brand new in the box?

Thanks for the clarification as to speaker burn-in. Sounded a little fishy to me at first, now I know it is!
My room dimensions are approximately 10 feet wide X 23 feet long X 7 feet tall. Speaker/TV set is currently in a corner facing the short way of the room, but when I get my new speakers I'm re-arranging everything to face the long way of the room. My chair is a chaise lounge that will be set up around 8-10 feet from the speakers.
Below is how my room is laid out. As you'll see in the upper right corner it shows how the wall juts out pretty far into the room. There's enough room to put my TV and the new speakers in that space, as shown in picture A:
Or would I be better off setting it up like this in picture B:
Can't place anything against the wall on the bottom of the pic because it's the entrance to my office and in the lower right corner there's a mini-bar.

I'm taking delivery on a new pair of RF-25 speakers in a few days. I've read a little bit about how new speakers sound better after they've been 'broken in.'
Can anyone enlighten me on the best way to do this?
Also, if anyone has any advice as to the best placement (distance from front/side walls, toe-in, etc.) I'd appreciate any input!

I've pretty much gone through all my existing CDs since I bought my Reference speakers so I am looking for some suggestions on some CDs to buy that are very well recorded/mixed.
Can be anything from classical to rock. I have the Telarc 'Fantasy' CD with selections from various sci-fi and fantasy films that sounds very, very good. Also have a couple Pink Floyd and an Alan Parsons Project CD which is odd but sounds awesome.
Does anyone have a good online source for DVD Audio discs, too? Thanks!
