  1. I need a little advice on surround speakers. Currently I use Cornwalls for LF and RF and a C7 for the center with the Heresys used as the SR and SL. I have decided to use the Cornwalls in a dedicated 2 channel system and move the Heresys up front. I would like some advice on new surrounds that match up well with the Heresys but aren't as big. Interested in floorstanding or used on stands. I think another set of Heresys would be ideal but thought I'd get input on something a little smaller for the room. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Don
  2. I used a pair of Cardas binding posts for my Cornwalls. I bought them @ http://www.soniccraft.com/. I think there are many places to buy them though. They worked great. Don
  3. I have a Rega P5 with the exact cartridge. It sounds much better than my old H/K St5. Seems to be well built with no fuss. Plug and play which I like. Using the optional PSU. Several after market upgrades are available from http://groovetracer.com/ for the future. Very satisfied with the turntable. I also like its relatively low profile.
  4. Gary, Thanks for the offer. I've never heard CW's in a system other than mine. If I ever get up that way I may take you up on the invite. BTW those speakers are nice! What kind of wood is that and is that something you did yourself? Don
  5. My Cornwalls came with the risers on them in 1979 - I don't believe Klipsch sells them individually anymore. I imagine they could be built pretty easily. Don
  6. A Space in Time is one of my all time favorites - not a weak song on the album. I saw Ten Years After 3 or 4 times in the 70's. Once drove from DC to Philly just to see them. Those were the days. How about Hot Tuna - Hoppkorv - a great album esp. side A
  7. Thanks for the replies. I think my main concern about going the tube route is if they have enough "oomph" (technical term) for movies. Also we watch tv or movies a couple of hours or more each day. Generally how long do tubes last plus how long does it take for a tube amp to warm up? My budget is around $2K. I thought that a SS amp would just be more practical in a HT setup but I do want to improve the music end. To be honest I think I've changed my mind so much about which way I want to go I've thoroughly confused myself. The only decision I've made is the Rega TT. I could just buy 2 more heresys for the HT (stack them on the Corns)and use a tube amp with the Cornwalls just for music. I think I'll go tell the wife this latest idea - I think she'll be excited (lol) Got to go - getting ready for the Colts victory! Actually that last idea isn't bad! Don
  8. I would like to improve the two channel listening in a home theater setup. I really can't have a separate system (or room) for music. I currently use a five channel Parasound 855 with an Outlaw 990. I plan to get a Rega P5 soon and would like to upgrade the amp portion with either a new amp run with the Outlaw or an integrated amp for music sources. I understand that many people will say get a tube amp but I don't really want to be running tubes while I watch tv or movies. I guess my main question is are there SS amps that exhibit the "tube sound"? I have never heard Cornwalls with tubes. Is it really that much of an improvement? I had considered a Primaluna Dialogue 2 - it has a Home Theater bypass mode. Have also considered Naim amp or int. amp. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I don't need a lot of power - just good quality. Thanks and have a Happy New Year! Don
  9. I feel the same way. I have reached the point where I am quite satisfied with the sound of movies (still need a better picture). Where I'm not satisfied is musically. Getting better 2-channel sound is now my quest. I have been buying a lot of vinyl lately. I am currently looking into tube amps, new turntables, etc. I have a feeling this is where it's going to get expensive (lol). Don
  10. I have recently been considering getting a tube amp - I am very new to this. I currently have Cornwalls I purchased new in 1978. I am currently using a five-channel Parasound and an Outlaw 990. I would like to use the tube amp for music only but may have to use it as 2 of the 5 channels for movies - can't fit any more speakers into the room. I listen to mainly 60's and 70's rock music. My question is what type of tube format would best suit my listening tastes (type of tubes, wpc, etc.) I do tend to air the cornwalls out when I listen to music. My main problem is that is difficult to audition equipment but from what I read tube amps are easily sold if they don't suit one's taste. I also have budget concerns (around $1000 or less). Thanks for the suggestions. Don
  11. For anyone interested I saw this at Audiogon this afternoon - shouldn't last long. http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1199146196
