  1. Sunburn, Thanks for the best laugh I've had in a while, still chuckling. Ron
  2. WOW Yes and PT, I could die a happy man. Since Scooter won't come witrh me to Houston[] I'll have to recruit someone else. Rumors are flying of a Genesis reunion with Peter Gabriel, I'd fly anywhere for that one. Ron
  3. Thnaks Bob, Its about 5 hours south. Don't think I'll make the trip but I appreciate you thinking of me. Who knows maybe my wife will pull herself out of her Rod Stewart type music and go with....nah. Scooter, roadtrip to Houston via Dallas? Ron
  4. heck I'm 45 and had no clue, figured it was a slow bluesy extended jam[]Listen to lots of progressive rock, Genesis, Porcupine Tree, Uriah Heep, Marillion, Flower Kings,Yes Old blues for me too, Elmore James, Blind Willie Johnson, , Earl Hooker none of that Robert Cray stuff Classic Rock ala Hendrix, Deep Purple, Mountain, The Who, Blue Oyster Cult Progressive Metal, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Queensryche And Daddy Dee has turned me onto some jazz, Diana Krall, Jacqui Naylor, Jane Monheit Ron
  5. Scooter, Played around on the net today listening to snippets from Riverside, WOW!!! I know what my next purchase will be now. Do you know of Blackfield? I'll enclose a ROIO of them for you also, thanks for the Riverside heads-up. BTW what do you think of the Flower Kings? Ron
  6. Well it's 9:00 here in Texas and I'm kicking back listening to the Yardbirds-For Your Love on LP. Whats everyone else listening to tonite? Ron
  7. Testimony samples sound good-- Testimony is AMAZING. It's also Christian which may turn some off. If you don't know, Neal Morse was with Spocks Beard (another amazing group). Testimony is the solo album he put out to tell the tale of his becoming a Christian. It truely inspired me. He has another new one aout called "One" also very good. Ron
  8. Mr Colter, They go from $45-$75 everyday on Ebay. "Usually" its the 45's that are worth something. Ron
  9. kind of what I figured but I had to ask, Thanks Ron
  10. I like Evergrey, don't know Riverside, I'll give them a try. I also enjoy Queensryche quite a bit, Operation Mindcrime is a classic. I also agree TOTALY with the Steve Wilson-David Gilmore comparison. I'll also throw Steve Hackett in there as well. Scooter, your CD's are going in the mail Monday, hope you enjoy them. Ron
  11. I'd like to start collecting picture disc LP's, I'm questioning the sound quality of these. I have 4 or 5 and none of them seem to be very good. Is this true of all? or are picture LP's like other vinyl LP's, some good, some bad, some suck? Thanks Ron
  12. EXCELLENT choices, especially, Marie Calender's Peach Cobbler[] I know I'm behind, I'm an old man but I have never heard Radiohead . Ron
  13. That would be dessert island. Reeses peanut butter cups. yum I can see this topic will be getting a huge response
  14. Don't know if this has been done before, but here goes. You're going to a desert island, and yes, it has a generator. It also has your system and all the comforts of home, save one. Your LP's and CD's. Which 5 CD's and/or LP's do you bring with you? I'll start. Porcupine tree-Deadwing Genesis-The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway Neal Morse-Testimony Deep Purple-Made in Japan Ted Nugent & The Amboy Dukes-Call of the Wild Ron
  15. I live here www.progarchives.com IQ is listed there, as are many others. There may be a link to their official site. Dark Matter is IMHO the best. Take care Ron
  16. Live at Budokan is IMHO OUTSTANDING as is the cd of the same name. It's blistering. Scenes from a Memory is a very good cd but..IMAGES AND WORDS BABY!!!! That being said, Porcupine Tree shames Dream Theater, again, IMHO. Try: Transatlantic The Tangent Kaipa IQ The Flower Kings BlackField Neal Morse Pain of Salvation (if you like Dream Theater, these guys are it) Have fun[:S] Ron
  17. I know you didn't ask me but.... First let me say I like Dream Theater..a lot, but they're no PT. I like most of the groups you mention but they're, IMHO, a bit harder than PT and they're missing something that frankly most other bands are too. I can't put my finger on it, but its there. Early Genesis and Marillion had it. Speaking of Dream Theater, do you have the official bootleg series? The live covers of Iron Maiden really rock. Scooter, thanks for the link. MADE my morning. I'm just getting into concert videos. Now I have to go buy a few. Darn the luck[] Ron
  18. Mr. Collins "popped" a great prog. group. Most have never heard "Suppers Ready", a great tune. The Archive box set is fantastic. Scooterdog, have you hard Lightbulb Sun by PT? If not GO GET, IT!! Sure wish they'd get close to DFW, I'd be there. Ron
  19. By the way, Love The Pretty Things. Haven't listened to them in a lloonngg time. thanks, time to dig out the LP's Ron
  20. yes, I've seen them reviewed on metal forums but I disagree with that. They are much more talented than your average heavy metal band, like AC/DC for instance. How these guys have survived, so to speak, for so long is beyond me. PT can PLAY. Each cd seems to get better. Try Blackfield if you like PT. The lead singers side project. Lazurus off Deadwing can bring me to tears. Ron
  21. Some Kansas could be what you're looking for. A couple tunes had an orchestra behind them. Ron
  22. Porcupine Tree - Deadwing Music to bring you to tears, and music to pilage by. Progressive rock if I must label them.
  23. SURE. PM me your address and I'll get em out in a few days. I have about 5-6. Do you like em old or new or don't care? Now if you liked the Flower Kings..but thats another story[] Ron
  24. I have to say a lot depnds on his room size, I have heresys up on stands with an Adcom GFA 5500 pushing them. I'm listening to a Porcupine Tree bootleg right now and ...I'm THRILLED[] But, I have a SMALL room. Porcupine Tree rocks!! Wish they would come to DFW. Ron
  25. Buddy of mine piced up a pair a month or so at the local pawn shop. Price paid.....$140/pr. Yep you read that right. They sound great and I'm sure could sound better with Deans magic touch. A couple dings but nothing I couldn't live with. He's looking at Horns and if he picks them up I'm the beneficiary of the corns. PLEASE, OH PLEASE[] Ron
