  1. Well, my rhetorical question was asked with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek.....The Dunlavys and others are generally great to listen to but trust me when I say there is absolutely nothing in them to justify high five figure asking prices........That dynamic figure posted by Ray is not impressive to me, which is not to say that they are not great music machines.........I still like the dynamics of the big horns....... 2. This product underscores the fact that the 'high end' market here, especially tube gear, is one of the larger ripoffs extant. This doesn't imply that there are not some sonically excellent products out there, just that there are gear manufacturers prepared to take advantage of the audio neurosis. Obviously the market for tubes is extremely small referenced to other home entertainment/audio products......so one would expect to spend a tad more on 'bottles'.....
  3. Thats an interesting piece of lore---I wonder why they would have done that???
  4. Well I always wondered about this.........[] http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/12408-compact_xz8___pair_of__worlds_best_loudspeakers
  5. Yeah, well!! I had a couple of guys in our old work department who wouldn't lose any weight on that LAST regimen........[]
  6. I'm beginning to wonder if Klipsch is starting to regret using this "balls" system!![]
  7. "The vocal presentation is much larger on the La Scala when compared to the Cornwall. " Do you mean by this that the image is considerably larger? RJP
  8. As a not too technical primer this is quite good. I wish we could get more people, especially the young, to look this over. Having some experience in community noise control its amazing how people unknowingly, i.e. agitation, frayed nerves, headaches etc. react to (controllable) noise disturbances e.g. 'boom cars'....[]
  9. This is certainly audio related and some might find it of interest...........Not good news----and some think I'm nuts because I carry 'decidamps' with me!![] http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/9314984/ RJP aka CWM
  10. Hmm! I guess not........![]
  11. I wonder how many forum members own a better than hobbiest (i.e. Radio Shack) grade SLM, e.g. one that can measure very soft sounds (25-30dba)? A good ANSI Type 11 is not too prohibitive in price these days and can be a very educational tool. Its fun to use "C" weighting and see how much 'inaudible' noise is in the room, listening or otherwise. My country location listening room is a very quiet 26dba but 38dbc largely attributable to LF sounds that might be from light outside wind etc. If you're listening to music at average 75-85 dbc then there is only a S/N of 37 to 47 db............The "A" weighting looks better overall. My point here is the "A" corresponds more closely to the Fletcher-Munson equal loudness curves and how we actually hear. BTW, I own an ANSI Type 11* for involvement in community noise assessment. 12. "The males around her fight it out, best man wins, while the female waits up in a tree for as long as three days. The actual sexual act lasts one minute." Gee!! Sounds like my seXXX life........[]
