  1. I thought there was something more than the protection issue. Sorry.
  2. They look different without the litter box in the background. []
  3. So, who's got the heaviest amp? With special regards to my friend, Paul. [A]
  4. I love you, man! Look at the bright side, it's not the kill, it's the thrill of the chase! []
  5. Klipsch told me years ago there was no way to blow a tweet w/zeners. True or false?
  6. I'd like to know a little more about that tweet protection. Years ago when I clipped my Marantz until I blew a Corn tweet, I had Klipsch give me a replacement and some zener diodes. Are these not stock in the Khorns? I was also told by Born2RockU that fuses in Khorns might perform pretty much the same protection as the zeners. Is that correct? How do I wind up blowing a tweet with in-line fuses in place?
  7. Hey, Stormin. Be careful not to take all that I say as some categorical representation on my part. I tend to speak that way, but that's often due to a point I'm trying to make. I am sure that somebody out there, and even Marantz, made some killer receivers. The Marantz we listened to that the guy hooked up to my Khorns (the one I criticized) was certainly not your Marantz 2325. It was probably more in line with my Marantz 2230 (30w/channel). And that 1180DC I had years back was a very good one, too. Sure my Crown is better than it by a fair shot. I used to clip that poor 1180DC to death. Back then, I was 18, and my older brother (who sent it to me from Germany when he was in the service overseas) told me it was okay for those red lights to flash alot, just so long as they are not solid. For me at age 18, that meant I was seeing more red than black. [] The 1180DC was certainly in the playing field of my Crown as I clipped it to death, but my Crown just dealt the power and then some with no stress at all.
  8. Wait 'til we plug that Crown into those Cornwalls! You'll feel better. []
  9. Hey, Fish. How's that Adcom GFA5500 compare to the HK in the 2-channel sound you get? Would it be a close call, or is there a fair margin between the 2? If there is a margin, give us some detail on what it is and how far apart you think the margin is.
  10. Bob, go ahead. About this A/AA deal, what's A as opposed to AA - soundwise? I'll shoot you CC info manana. I guess, seeing as I didn't hear a difference with the loaners, I can use them as a reference to your re-caps.... [] BTW, I saw the earlier offer for the free AA's that were re-capped by you. Even though I could have been the first to accept, I purposefully passed on it since you've been so helpful. I think it's good business since you've already got alot invested in helping me. Just wanted to let you know how much your presence here is appreciated.
  11. Thanks, I was just wondering. Hey, please PM me with the price, instead. My e-mail's at the office.
  12. Hey, Bob. Is the idea I expressed on the sloping decrease sort of right?
  13. Sounds like a bottom cut-off, and you'd keep it at its lowest setting when running 2-channel.
  14. Meagain's HK AVR 430 comes in at 39 lbs. It's a keeper! And this is what we get thanks to Max's first hint about heavy power supplies. Thanks, Max.
  15. That might not hold true for most SS equipment. The speaker protection relays open when the power switch is pressed to prevent huge transients destroying the drivers. Rick Indeed. My McIntosh Mc300 is dead quiet at turn off, but it weighs over 90lbs! DM I just looked it up. That's the McIntosh "Big Boy" amp!
  16. You kidding? If not, 41 lbs, 1 oz. I guess, given its small size, that's heavier than Quikrete! http://www.crownaudio.com/amp_htm/mtspecs.htm

  18. I'd definitely hang on to it for you. I bet it'd be heavy, though. Seriously, if you're wanting a decent Mc, there's so, so many of them, I'm sure they're a dime a dozen. You could probably make off with a good deal on the used market. I wish I could listen to one of those HK's. On this "weight factor" thing that has developed (and it's not my theory; all the others here have stated it), what we're saying about those "heavy" amps is when you lift them, it feels like the inside might as well be solid cement. Just out of curiosity, does that HK have that kind of weight to it?
  19. Upward-sloping decrease in efficiency. Interesting that this came up because of a number of threads that have accused (if you will) Klipsch horn-loaded speakers of being bright. To some, maybe it would tame the unwanted brightness. To others, maybe it would sound like when you get out of a pool and "pop" the water out of your ears and everything opens back up again. Is that the idea, Bob? BTW, when will you expect to be finished with Jacob's (whtboys) crossover re-caps? He's from Houston, and he and I are keeping up. He says he's having you do them. So, it will be interesting to hear what he thinks as he has lodged some complaints on the sound quality of his newly-acquired Corns. It was I who directed him to those Corns, and I'm wishing well for him since I always loved my Corns and still do. Also, go ahead and e-mail me what you charge.
