  1. DUDE, that's the same exact paneling I have in my hearth room where my main HT is setup. Knotty Pine, right?

Those speakers look very cool in there. very woodsy look. When was your home built?

Is that a Khorn in PINE or original fir plywood? with surface mount grille? Very interesting, it goes exactly with your paneling in the home. I like it.

I have alot of that same tongue and grove pine paneling. Michael, this is too interesting. You're a Klipsch guy. You have a house on 2 wooded acres in the city. You have tongue and grove pine paneling for some of the walls. You like Santana's "Moonflower," which most people have never heard of, and you have a Crown Microtech 1200. Ever heard of the "Doppelganger" theory?

  2. Look, if you want your Heresies to sound great, why don't you do both? Get a $6,000 amp and a bigger house with a custom listening room? I am sure they will sound better.

Actually, I still stand behind the concept of a separate amp/pre-amp combo. Spend no more than about $500-1000 on the amp and $200-400 on the pre. You can do plenty well on that kind of money. Think used possibly and get the stuff somebody else paid 2 to 3 times more for.

  3. Tommy, it's all in the amp. When I bought my Cornwalls years ago, the previous owner auditioned them to me through his Marantz receiver - which was supposed to be pretty decent. They were loud - but rough sounding. I'm sure you got a flavor of that distinction by the way your post reads.

I bought the Corns on my bro's advice. Then, I bought my Crown amp for $800 new. Not near what the McIntosh runs - I'm sure. I just saw a Crown like mine on e-bay for $400. Goes to show that you can get a good amp for $400 used/$800 new. I have had friends in disbelief when I run my Crown at 1/3 volume through my Corns. It is so clear and so loud. I'd bet it's your HK receiver. HK makes a good product, but a quality amp/pre-amp combo is really the way to go if you intend on playing at loud volumes.

You don't need to spend more than $1k on a good new amp or about $500 on a good used one. I see $6100 for the McIntosh. Couldn't be 6x better than a good $1,000 amp.

  4. Nix the projector idea. Doesn't work good unless room is dark. Plasma concerns are warranted as expressed by others in this thread. My understanding is LCD and DLP have these little not-too-expensive modules that you can replace if the brightness weakens too much due to age. I have a Samsung 65" DLP. It's great, but be forewarned that local broadcasts look grainy and pixel-like - just like was said by others.

  5. I agree. I'm going to try for the heck of it. If they turn out nice, I'm going to buy a digi cam and upload so you can see the little nugget I found behind the ragged cloth.... Just when I was blaming the cat, it turns out if it wasn't for him, I would have never uncovered this little treasure. I bet it will work.

  6. Picky, picky. Just kidding. But I love Maybe I'm a Leo and Never Before. I especially like the part of Maybe I'm a Leo where John Lord goes into that "drunken-sounding" keyboard solo.

I always liked the lyrics of "A Venture." For whatever reason, it makes me feel nostalgic for my childhood. And the Clap - what a fantastic piece of acoustical guitar material!

    JMHO.

How about.... Are You Experienced and Who's Next?

Oh, and also, 2112 and Permanent Waves?

Michael, help me out back on my Deco Corns post.

  7. I agree, Michael. The Brits did write better music in the classic rock genre.

Chicago's 1st was real good. I had no idea what was on it when I ordered it from BMG. I was pleasantly surprised. It has skid marks from so much play time.

I think BOC's Agents of Fortune was pretty good, too. Probably their best.

Deep Purple "Machine Head" is excellent.

    Yes's "Album" is great....

  8. What a find, but I don't know how to deal with all these little indents about the size of... staples... all about 1/64 - 1/32 inches deep. I wonder whether I could putty those? Seems like it'd be alot of little putty-patches and would be noticeable since they are all kind of lined around the edges. [:(]

What do you think? Think I could putty tons of little indents all in a row and still come out looking good?

The wood's a real light stain. Not white like bare birch, but I'd call it a natural finish.

  9. ... and any Zeppelin- except In through the out door

Hold on! Them's fightin' words. That's one of Zep's better ones. They really showed their versatility on that album. They were maturing extremely well. You just don't like "All of My Love," "I'm Gonna Crawl" and "Hot Dog." Right?

  10. Okay... Okay.... Probably not overkill. It's been 10 years since I hooked my Corns to TV and watched "Apocolypse Now." I remember I liked it, but I wasn't fully reminded until I just watched "Stealth" tonight. Movie was cheesy. Sound was great. I imagine a sub would have made it spectacular. Wife thought I was carried away. "Too loud," she said.

  11. Front is not recessed. I'll be danged. Then, they're decos. I never even knew about decos until a few weeks ago. I've had these speaks for 20 years. The guy before me just put grill cloth on them and trimmed the front perimeter with baseboard and stained it.

Does their being decos make them worth more?
