  1. So I won the bid on a 10" Maxell UD metal reel (NEW/Unused) w/tape (of course)..........$32.00 + shipping of $8.00, and now the seller says he has (2) and can offer the second one for $32.00 and kick in shipping for FREE

Total cost $72.00 for (2) BRAND NEW REELS.......Deal or No deal? What say the jury?[:D]

You were going to pay $40.00 for one (shipping is part of the price), now you can get two for $32.00 more. Roughly a 20% discount, if my math is correct. Sounds like a deal to me.

  2. Allright, here goes...

$120 pair of Forte I speakers, HK 930 receiver at an estate sale

$300 McIntosh C26, MC250, Marantz 120 tuner, NAD CD player at a moving sale

Free patch cords, Herb Alpert and the Tiajuana Brass- Greatest Hits, Miles Davis - Almost Blue

Now Gary will always win this set of bragging rights, so he can't play. [:|]

Aw shucks guys. I wanna play.[:'(]

Gary, you absolutely can not play.[;)] We are winning right now.[:P]

Well, give it a shot, because I am sure all that "stuff" you have hooked up to those Khorns cost more than what most people in this thread are saying they have invested.

  3. I usually could care less about spelling mistakes--I certainly make my share-- but since I've seen 5 or 6 of you make the same one, I need to step in here(especially for Trey's sake, since he's in Hoosier-land now): PEYTON

Like TBrennan said, Payton was a Bear [:)]

Amy, I thought it was spelled Peyton, but second guessed myself when everyone else spelled it Payton. Either way we all knew who we were talking about, but thanks for correcting the error. I usually don't point out grammar and spelling mistakes to anyone but dtel.[;)]

You caught us all on that one!

Either way, I am really glad the Saints made it as far as they did. It's been a remarkable season considering the cards they were dealt. They sure lifted the spirits in New Orleans and we are really proud of them. The entire team has contributed tremendously to New Orleans and the entire region in its effort to rebuild.

A huge thank you goes out to all the networks for keeping the devastation caused by Katrina in the forefront whenever the Saints' games were nationally televised.

If the Saints had not gone as far as they did season we still owe them a huge standing ovation for the contributions they made to this region.

I am really glad to see Peyton finally getting the recognition he deserves. Archie spent so much time teaching his sons and passed the love of the game on to each of them. Archie Manning has been and will continue to be an inspiration to this region.

There are quite a few players from our area on the Indy Colts team, so it's only fitting that we cheer them on.

  4. Well there was one good game, Bears / Saints was not even close. Now for the COLTS to beat Da Bears in 2 weeks.

The Saints are out, but Payton's family is from here, Paytons dad almost got killed playing for the saints, he got hit more than a crash test dummy.

Since the Saints lost [:(] I will definitely be cheering for the Colts. Not only isIndy the home of Klipsch, but New Orleans' first family of football "The Mannings" deserve this moment of glory. It's been a long hard road for the Manning family as far as football and I for one am glad to see Payton going to the Superbowl. It definitely makes up for all the BS Archie put up with while quarterbacking the Saints.

I was really touched when Payton went over and hugged his dad, I could see the admiration in Archie's face.

If the Saints couldn't make it, I sure am glad Indy Colts did.

  5. Is there an icon, flag or any type of indicator that tells you that you have a PM? I normally check my inbox but you'd think there'd be a more obvious way to tell. Second question. Some forums will put a tag on a thread when you've posted in it. Is that not the case here? Thanks, Carl

If you "log in" and go to the main Forum page, scroll down, on the right hand side of the page it will say "My Posts". That may help with following your posts, as far as the pm, set your profile to send you an email, that is the safest way to make sure you get your PMs.

  6. I'm on a poor college budget, but always tip at least 15% and then round up to the dollar. But with really good service I've been known to tip as much as 50%...sometimes I'll tip really high if the service was exceptionally bad (if I frequent the establishment often)....it's funny how much better the service is the next time you come in. [^o)]

Doc, I think you got this one right.

I always tip 15% regardless of the quality of service. 50% can be a little tough when all nine of us in the house go out to eat, but if the service is good we always tip 20% or more. Having three daughters and a husband (management) that previously worked in the food service industry made me realize the $2.00 and something an hour that waiters/waitresses get paid doesn't go very far, even if the establishment makes up the difference in tips to maintain minimum wage.

Doc, I hope you keep this same attitude once you are no longer on a poor college budget.

  7. If the Saints can run the ball, which I think they can and they don't allow too many big plays. They should handle the Bears, they do have the number one offence in the NFL.

    Jay

If those two things happen they should win, hope your right.

Probably have high blood pressure watching , still can't belive they got this far.[Y]

I'm with these guys....and Colter, you my friend, are a traitor![;)] and I thought you were going to pull for the Saints.

Either way, the Saints have really pulled through for the City of New Orleans this year. Regardless of the outcome today, I am still proud to say I am a diehard Saints fan. This team has performed outstanding considering the circumstances they have faced. The Saints have done a lot to help the City of New Orleans and for that we owe them a huge [Y]. They have given the entire region hope in the face of all the devastation from Katrina.

BTW, Colter I forgot to tell you that Joni and Maw-Maw's house was bulldozed the week after you left here. Thanks for photographing the catastrophic losses while you were here. I know it was emotionally trying for you to see the devastation first hand and your caring and generosity will not ever be forgotten.

    Thanks again.

  8. I have my rear forte II's set in a built in cabinet. I have 2 to 3 inches each side, with 3 to four above. They are also away from the back of the cabinet about 5 to 6 inches. I thin I read once that the needed to be about 1/2 the diameter of the passive away from the wall. They use to be my fronts for a while in there and seemed to work OK. I couldn't tell much difference on them. If I get a chance I'll post some pictures.

I would really like to see the pics, if you get the chance.

  9. Jay, I had not read this thread before now and I have to admit I only read the last six or so posts before writing this.

IMO, The Old English in the lighter version really does not work very well at all.

The Old English for dark wood does a much better job of "covering up", even on lighter woods. In most cases the "cover up job" is not permanent, you will have to reapply the Old English to keep the "scratches looking good", (if there is such a thing). Basically, apply the Old English dark wood product, lightly rub in and wipe off the excess. Reapply as often as needed.

I have used Old English for dark wood for years, it does a great job of "sprucing up nicks" temporarily without refinishing.

One bottle will go a LONG way.

  10. when I was in school back in the late 60's and early 70's every guy played the guitar, some good, most not so good - but absolutely all us played to some degree. Is it my imagination or do not as many young guys play guitar these days?

I couldn't resist reposting this one either. Photo courtesy of Colter Photography:

Actually, guitar playing must be making a comeback. My 14 year old nephew recently took up guitar and said that a lot of kids are "getting into the guitar". He also said that a lot of the "kids in school" have "bands" and "they practice in their garages" and sometimes "one of them may get a

"gig"". I asked, "What kind of gig?" He said, you know "like school stuff, birthday parties, you know that kinda thing."

    That sure sounds familiar.[:D]

  12. I thought you had to be bald to attend, Dr.

We'll bring a flobee and a razor so you will fit in..

    Hey Arf,

Can we take that statement to mean you will be in Indy in June?[:D] I don't see your name on Amy's updated list.[*-)]

Amy updates her list periodically. According to the destructions, I am to leave my name, guests, online name and how much money I'm bringing.

    I'll be there, Dtels wife!!!

We were hoping to be able to thank you, in person, one day. I can't wait for Amy to update her list again!!!!

  13. Seeking 1 or 2 Forte II's preferable in walnut.

Anyone who has this and lives on the mid-east coast can contact me here or at rrinaldi@jhsph.edu.

    Thanks.

I apologize for not responding to your pm earlier in the week. I was going to suggest that you do exactly what you are doing with this additional consideration..

Purchase a pair of Forte II's and if, or as the budget allows go ahead and pick up another pair of Forte II's or Fortes. IMO, our four Forte II's and two Forte's are very good matches.

I think you would be really happy with that set up.

  14. Dtel and I looked for this thread earlier. We checked Page 1 and Page 2 and it was nowhere to be found?[8-)]

Unless, we both overlooked it....did it disappear and then reappear????...it must that be"friend underneath Fini's pillow?"

    So...Colter...did you get the pen???[;)]

  15. Good post ibanezhater, welcome to the forum.

Yes, some of the speakers can be big, but with a little thought and planning they can be worked into a room.

Dtel has owned numerous brands of speakers in the twenty eight years we have been married. I have to admit that I really didn't like the fact that most of those speakers "were too big".

After all of the "big" speakers, we decided to purchase Klipsch Synergy SB3, SC1 and SS1, which when we compared the Synergy to other speakers in the same price range, Synergy outperformed all others, in our opinion. The Synergy speakers were our introduction to Klipsch.

Shortly thereafter we purchased the two pair of Forte II's, a pair of Fortes and the DIY sub. Then...we won the Cornwall III's (see "Pics of dtel's Cornwalls", in the Pilgramage section of the Forum). That makes eight "big" speakers, and a sub...couldn't be happier to have all nine of them in our family room.

Three of the Fortes are mounted on the rear wall, two Fortes are in the front corners, mounted about 40 inches from the floor and inverted, (for proper horn placement), one Forte(center) sits atop the entertainment center which surrounds the 65 inch television, sub is the L corner (under the L-front Forte) and the Cornwall III's (reserved primarily for two channel) are placed to either side of the entertainment center. Risers were removed from all Forte's and proper protection afforded for the two that are inverted (to prevent tops from being scratched).

The best part is...we don't tell visitors to our home how many speakers are in the family room, until they have "listened" for a while. When we tell them there are nine speakers, they look at us like we are crazy and start counting to see if we are lying!!!

I guess what I am trying to say is dollar for dollar, speaker for speaker, it is hard to beat a Klipsch, regardless of the "negatives" Of course, that is just my opinion.

Again, welcome to the Forum. We hope you stick around and visit the "Nut Hut" often.[;)]

  16. I would like to learn more about speakers, receivers, and audio systems. Where would be a good start? thanks.

If you stick around here you can't help but learn more about speakers, receivers, audio systems and any other topics we discuss! Like "Will it Fly" in General Questions.

  17. Rich, you're my hero man. Looks like the dog's had a few.

Thanks man! I appreciate it. Now about those LSIs.....

I know you are not asking Colter to part with a single pair of his beloved Klipsch collection? He was actually buying speakers when he was down here for a week in December!!!!

Hey, Dr. Who, maybe we need to rent a moving truck when we visit Colter...when he leaves for work...we can load up....[;)] Just kidding Michael.[:D]
