  1. I noticed my neighbor had a dish so i asked him about it he said he had dish network...loved it and the only time he lost signal was when snow was building up on it...So he called and complained and they set him up with a dish warmer...problem solved..

If I switch from cable to the dish I will gain alot more hd channels but I will lose the ability to view the on demand that my neighbors order..my tv pulls there signal in...kinda cool actually..

Dish does offer pay for view, but you would have to pay for that yourself. I think you will be much happier with Dish than cable. I don't think you will ever switch back. Just my opinion.

  2. Groomlakearea51,

    I sent you an e-mail!

Thank you Christy, dtel's wife for having me check this thread. I'll keep ya'll posted!

You are most welcome MD. Just a hint, when you sign onto the forum, check to right of the screen, it will give you a list of your posts, the most active posts and the unanswered posts. That will help you keep up with your "conversations".

If you guys want to all meet up here that's fine with us. We can fix lunch or dinner for everyone. Happy Holidays!

  3. Last night I was watching the DVD Standing in the Shadows of Motown and it made my mind hearken back to some of my earliest memories of music. So, with your permission, Id like to: a) share those memories with you and B) ask you to share yours with us.

    <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Tom, thank you for asking us to share with you. "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" has a way of bringing back "memories. I also grew up listening to Motown, Elvis and the Beatles.

In 1966 Santa once again did me right and left for me my very own AM transistor radio. We were living on the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />MississippiGulfCoast and my 9 volt radio was tuned to the only station I ever needed WTIX out of New Orleans.

Tix was the best of the best back then. I believe "Skinny Tommy Chaney", Scoot and the rest were really tuned into life in the South. As of ten years ago "Scoot in the Morning" had "gone country".

I hate to say this for I know how it might come off sounding, but I kinda feel sad for kids nowadays in that I feel the music theyre being exposed to wont necessarily lead them to an overall appreciation of all types of music. I mean, I recall hearing Classical and Big Band and Motown and Beach music and early rock, and blues; all of which pretty much laid the foundation for everything since. I dunno I just think I have a better appreciation for most music genres having heard where it came from. And Standing in the Shadows of Motown brought back priceless memories.

Our three daughters grew up listening to all kinds of music. Jazz, classical, country, rock, Motown. All of them still enjoy listening to all types of music. They are fans of everything from classical to hip-hop(which I don't understand).

My oldest daughter had a rap song playing and I really didn't appreciate the sounds coming from the stero. I asked her to please play the "rap crap" when I wasn't around. Her response...You and dad raised us to appreciate ALL kinds of music. My response...You are correct, but we didn't raise you to listen to that crap.

Technically, she was right and I told her so, but still insisted you listen to the rap at another time.

My youngest daughter enjoys listening to classical music and has found classical music useful in calming her very active four year old. She also enjoys all other types of music.

We just installed a very inexpensive "rack" unit in our 5 year old grandson's room. He has of course "grown up" listening to everything from "Baby Mozart" to Clapton, including those you mention above.

Anyway, last night we showed him how to operate the CD player, radio, etc. While tuning in the radio stations we came across Christian Rock, Country, Classical, Oldies and of course The Rock of New Orleans WRNO. Everytime I tuned a station in, he said, "I like that music".

It was rewarding to once again see the enthusiam children can develop for all types of music. I believe children should be exposed to all types of music, this allows them the freedom to expand their horizons.

Thanks for listening. Have an awesome week!!! [:)]

    Same to you.

    You have a pm.

    Tom
  4. The deal with the Forte II's...Michael conceded his winning bid to us. That was our first "Heritage" purchase. The concession of the Forte's occurred before we helped out with the LaScala purchase. That's the least we could do, besides we really enjoyed listening to those Scalas.

We (the bridal party, Michael and a few others) will be going to the French Quarter after the rehearsal on Friday night, Dec. 8 and then again on Saturday night, Dec. 9 after the wedding. So if any of you can make it those nights you are most welcome to join us.

Michael will fly out of MSY on December 10 at 7 a.m. and we (all nine of us in the house) will leave on a six day Carribean Cruise on December 11.

We had hoped to take Michael to Maspero's...Clover Grill...and of course those exotic bars.[;)]

Yes it is a real triple wedding...three brides, same time, same place. Michael is going to have more women than he knows what to do with.[;)]

Michael, get all your work caught up, so you can come and play.

Just in case any of you make it down this way for the holidays...we will be celebrating the holiday season at home. If you would like to make arrangements to get together let us know. My birthday is Christmas Day, so that is just one more reason for a party![^][D][<:o)]

  5. They do have a pretty good selection of hd content. Even at an entry level hd package there's more hd than a mid level comcast hd package...Sill trying to talk my significant other into it..I figured the food network in hd would do it...

The Food Network is terrific. Everyone in the house (all nine of us) love it. My six year old grandson loves to watch Food Network.

We do have the Voom package I would suggest you guys try it.

I am not a big fan of television. I actually only watch a few selected programs, however I can attest to the picture quality and the programming available. I can also emphatically state the service we have received from DishNetwork is excellent.

My primary interest is listening to music, so I am familiar with the programming related to that. We also have Sirius radio and are very pleased with the programming.

  6. Sorry to hear about that. For that much I might prosecute my own sister too. As it is I figure my generosity stops at the time of day and is plenty for not sending her to prison and making her child a ward of the state.

It's really sad. All they had to do was admit what they did and it would have been brushed under the carpet. Just like always.[:(]

  7. Michael's travel arrangements are finalized!!!![:)]

He will be heading down south December 4, 2006.[<:o)]

Although we had been begging him to come down for a vacation, we had to bribe him.[;)]

We have engaged Michael as the photographer for our "Triple Wedding" on December 9, 2006.[H]

Our oldest daughter and her fiance will be wed, our only niece and her fiance will be wed and dtel and I will renew our 28 year wedding vows.

We are so excited to have Michael as our guest for a week.

Some of you had expressed an interest having an informal gathering in our area. As of now, Thurs, Fri and Sat, December 7-9 are dedicated to the "wedding". If any of you would like to get together between the evenings of December 4 and December 6 let me know. You can either post here or email me.

I know those are weekdays, but how often do we have the opportunity to be graced with Michael's presence.[;)] Your next chance may be in Indy next June.

Can't wait to see you Michael.[{][}]

  8. I've been using Dish for 10 years or so though haven't gone HD yet. Very satisfied. If it rains I lose the signal for +/- 3 minutes. Annoying but a necessary evil I suppose.

Dish Network's HD package, Voom, is worth the money, IMO.

You might want to try it out Arky.

    A lot of good concerts.[:)]

One thing, don't call DishNetwork at night, hardly anyone speaks English. And...sometimes you have to "operator shop" with them, they must have a high turnover rate.

Once our service was established everything went smoothly.

I have a plasma being delivered Tuesday so i'll upgrade to HD shortly. I have an old (18yrs) Toshiba rptv that just won't die & I have been holding out.

How is the sound quality on the concerts? I guess DD 5.1 at best.

    JT

I will have to ask dtel if they come in at 6.0, not sure about that one. I'm usually busy in the house, when the tv is on, so I know what's on, but not necessarily how it's coming through.[*-)]

I do know the quality of the picture with satellite is soooooo much better than with cable. And I do know some really good concerts come on. A lot of concerts that we haven't had time to track down on dvd.

You won't be sorry, HD is unbelievable. One channel is like a "screen saver". Nothing but video of salt water aquariums. It is awesome.

If I am not mistaken DishNetwork offers the largest selection of HD. At least they did a couple of months ago.

  9. I would hate to get it and have dropouts all the time...

We don't have "dropouts" all the time. Actually our "drop out" time with DishNetwork has been less than we had with cable.

In the case of light rain there is not a problem. Generally we lose +/- 3 minutes in the case of "severe thunderstorms". The signal comes right back and your good to go.

When the weather is bad enough to lose the signal, we probably shouldn't have the televisions on anyway.

  11. We have been using Dish Network for over a year now, with the HD package. We love it.

We had cable prior to getting Dish Network and there is no comparison even without the HD package.

Also, prior to Hurricane Katrina we had DishNetwork installed in two rooms, even though you could get four rooms with free installation. After Katrina, I called DishNetwork because I needed to more rooms equipped with satellite. Because we were in the "devastated area" they installed the other two rooms at no additional charge. (Saved us about $150.00) They also waived two months of our charges at the same time and we didn't even request a waiver.

I think the decision to go with Dish Network is the best thing you could do. The HD package is unbeatable.

  12. Clarence, how would you deal with a sibling who stole from your checking account causing you to overdraw your account, and then doesn't admit it?

We are going through a very similiar situation right now.

The matter has been turned over to the authorities and the criminals are being prosecuted. Basically, $105,000.00 went missing and they won't admit to it. What else can you do?

  13. Coytee please spare us. You better stick to your day job for now.[;)] At least until you get a little better comic material.

[:(] same thing my wife says...

Maybe she doesn't understand your humor[*-)]

Coytee, are the Bengals and Saints playing today. I know the Saints are playing but I wasn't sure what team they were playing.

Yes, I do belive they do

So, what do you think the outcome will be?

Geaux Saints......I have been a die hard fan since the team was first formed. Even through the "bag head" days!!!

And I've been a fan of Bengals from their day of inception (Dad would take me to their games) Seems we're closer kin than previously thought... takes some backbone to stay a fan, even through a 'couple' (cough) down years huh?

Yes it does take backbone, but it's worth it.

  14. You may want to be a little nicer this time around. I just read your other post (the one where you wanted to sell your speakers) and you got a little nasty when someone pointed out the warranty issue.

We are all like family here. We watch each other's backs, just like we will for you. And yes, a lot of us on this forum can be sarcastic, but there are limits, especially if you are a "newbie".

So, best of luck and I do hope you get the advice you are looking for.

  15. Sorry about the trouble. If you are under warranty, BBY absolutely is required to help you. I can get you the corporate headquarters 800 number when I'm back in the office on Monday. Please email me to remind me amy.unger@klipsch.com

    Thanks!

That's what we are talking about. Klipsch does care!!!

You have purchased speakers from one of the finest companies around!!!

  16. Coytee please spare us. You better stick to your day job for now.[;)] At least until you get a little better comic material.

BTW, don't feel so bad. Dtel, dtel's niece, dtel's future son-in-law, dtel's daughter and dtel's baby girl all got the newsletter.[:o] I didn't get the newsletter.[*-)]

BTW, dtel's future-son-in-law will have to change his screen name after December 9, 2006. That's the day of the big triple wedding!!![8][^][<:o)]

I will be posting a thread under General Questions shortly so as not to hijack this thread.

Talk about favorites. Maybe it's a "conspiracy" or a secret newsletter.

Hey, maybe the newsletter is actually "a secret forum" and we aren't invited.[:$]

Coytee, are the Bengals and Saints playing today. I know the Saints are playing but I wasn't sure what team they were playing.

Geaux Saints......I have been a die hard fan since the team was first formed. Even through the "bag head" days!!!

  17. We are so glad to see one of our favorite companies made your day.

Hey Steve, you have a response to your complaint on the "Best Buy" thread you started.

Welcome to the forum, we hope you visit here often.

  18. whoo hoo...

    welcome dhtman!!!

4 of us now (including 6foot8 even though he has the 3-way [6])

They need to get our own forum so we can talk behind everyone elses back!!

"yo...dude... you hear about the guy with the ionovac??"

Then again, might get lonely with only 4 of us [8-)]

    [:D]

    Coytee,

I thought you were a nice guy?[;)] If you don't stop being ugly I'm going to tell Amy, then you can have your own forum and I guarantee you will be lonely![;)]

Just kidding, congrats dhtman and welcome.

  19. Phil, we do hope you are not dissuaded from "chatting" here. I for one really enjoy your posts.

That being said, I didn't like flying before this thread started.[:(] Now I am really scared to fly.[;)]
