  1. That one did get good reviews at AK. Good luck with yours!
  2. I'm working on one now. A small one ( 1 3/16" square, 5 volt DC) that mounts under chassis and makes use of an "unused" 6 volt tap pilot light tap. Probably not as "plug 'n play" as you are looking for.
  3. You can still go a long way on less money with an old console amp. The Magnavoxes are one hell of a lot of fun for under a hundred. With efficient loudspeakers, anything is possible. I still have one rig set up to run a pair of mono Newcombs at 12 watts each and they produce fantastic music reproduction. Here's a $65 cutie that can't be beat.
  4. Cool! I didn't have my HWOs when I had the 730, so I'll never know what it would have sounded like with them. If I ever do find one again, I'll give it a go. Glad you got one, here's hoping it serves you for years to come.
  5. I picked up a 730 recently for $13, replaced the lights and cleaned it up. Sold it to a co-worker for $35. These things do show up in the thrifts, persistence pays off. BTW, what is the fascination with the twin powered receivers here at Klipsch? MIne sounded good, looked okay, but wasn't what I would would consider spectacular. What gives?
  6. Here's my office tube set up. A Magnavox 6V6GT, Foreplay II, Sony Playstation SCPH 1001, homebrew ICs (magnet wire in teflon tubing), all routed through the HWOs.
  7. I couldn't be more more pleased with today's "vinyl thrift finds": Time Changes CS8927 (stereo) Time Further Out CL1690 (6 eye mono) Gone with the Wind CL1347 (6 eye mono) Used but not scratched for $3 total. Can you say happy?
  8. Nah DD, just another ol' 6V6 PP. But, I do have that EL84 SET to refurb and that would do nicely as well, I feel certain.
  9. Someday, I am going to be up yer way again and you, Sir, I plan to meet in person and discuss audio over a beverage or 2! I'll let you know how this sounds when I get it set up.
  10. While I have enjoyed the Sonic T amp with the HWOs, it's time to drag out the Magnavox and use the Foreplay II with it instead. Pics (good quality and bad) are here: http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cruisaire/album?.dir=e563&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/cruisaire/my_photos%3furlhint=actn,del%253as,1%253af,0
  11. Thebes? I consider that quite a compliment! Thank you Sir. Your location is South Miss? Mississippi? Where exactly are you? I hail from d'Iberville myself.
  12. Case in point, http://cgi.ebay.com/KLIPSCH-HERSEY-HI-FI-LOUDSPEAKERS-70s_W0QQitemZ5842425281QQcategoryZ50597QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I am in no way connected with this auction.
  13. Superb find!! Just another example of the the "hit thrift stores/charities where old people retire in droves" theory. They had the stuff, enjoyed it, now it's your turn all these years later. You did very well.
  14. Yes, that is a 38 cent, thrift store purchase stamped "Philippine Mahogany" tray. Pretty, huh? Oh the things we can recycle when we have a chance.
