  1. I swaped my K55 m's with spring loaded k55v's with Al's trachorns and could hear very little diff.Might have seemed a little smoother but as I stated hard to tell. This was with AK 2's
  2. McIntosh has been using autoformers in most of ther amps for forty years or more.
  3. My BAT preamp has two main outputs to run two amps.I know Mcintosh offers preamps that you can drive two amps.I am sure these are not the only ones.My BAT is a fully balanced, front to back, tube pre.Unless this is not what you are talking about.
  4. I use my main computer and my laptop and a stop watch, works great with two computers as your final bid is is just one key stroke away on the second computer.
  5. Yes Dave sounds like it will be a great time.I will bring my BAT Preamp,Mc275 amp and maybe my Mda700/Mcd751 Transport and converter. This was Mcintoshes top of the line untill 2004 when they came out with the $16,000.00 Mda/Mcd 1000.I just hope with all this gear we get to demo it all. It's sure gonna be fun trying.
  6. Sorry for the delay in an answer as I have been on vacation. I am retired and just happen to have three amps, one Mac tube, one Mac ss,and an Sae ss.The ss are both 1000w bridged and the tube is 75/channel. Having alot of time on my hands and having read so much about bi-amping I thought I would give it a try. The Marchand web site is www.marchandelec.com They have kits,ez kits partially assembled kits or fully assembled and tested. They have much more than crossovers also.I got mine off Agon for $400.00.It is a xm9 three way with a bunch of options. They also sell tube crossovers but they are not cheap but I asume are worth it.I think I would try a partial kit if I bought one new.I still have both Deans and my stock AK2's. Chris
  7. After all that discussion on caps and if you really want the so called "Best" how about "Audio Note Silver Foil Capacitors".Depending on the value they can as high as $400.00 and above each.Do any of you guys have any experiance with these? How about it Al,Dean,or anyone else?
  8. For sale one pair of ALK Tweeter Atenuaters as new $60.00 One pair of Dean Wescotts jr crossovers for khorns $300.00 obo. Went to a Marchand externel crossover/bi-amp set up.All are just a few months old. Contact Rocketman4274.
  9. TubeGuy I agree with you.I kept all my original stuff including my AKII network and was just thinking oday about swapping it back to check out the difference. But you know it might be pretty easy to build new hats as I bought Al's complete kit so I would just have to make a top and bottom board for the old stuff and could just swapp hats and the sqwaker driver and not have to mess with all the other stuff.
  10. Hello out there.Any of you people who have switched to Deans AK Jr network and has found it to have too much in the high frequency don't give up. First of all I'm sure most of you guys know it is just about impossible to build an x-over that will work in 100% of all k-horns or any speaker for that matter. There are just too many variables.Any time we modify a speaker from the stock configuration you will run the risk of taking a step backwards instead of forward. You might have to work at it to get it right. I bought a very nice set of 1987 k-horns a few months ago. After awhile I found Dean and Al through the forum and ordered one of Deans JR x-overs.While waiting for them to get here I ordered Al's Trachorns with grills and purchased a set of the Beyma tweeters as I did not know about Bob Crites new tweeter yet.The Trachorns plus the Beyma Tweeters were great.Enter Deans x-overs.The combination of my old tired AK 2 x-overs sounded pretty good with the upgrades I had done but when I added Deans x-overs the combination of new and better caps compared to my old ones and the Beyma Tweeters was way too hot sounding except below 70db.No amount of different attenuator settings cured the problem. After talking with both Dean and Al they both decided that the tweeters needed more attenuation than what was built into Deans x-overs.The problem could have been solved with some L-pads from Radio Shack for the cheapest solution but I chose to go with Als Tweeter Attenuators.Man that really solved the problem and took the k-horns to another level that to me sounds awesome. I have tried only one setting on both Deans and Als filters,5+2 on Deans and -5db which is the middle setting on Al's Attenuators. No more sssssssssss or bad sounding vocals just great music. The Trachorns ,The Beymas and Deans x-overs with the right attenuation work great and is well worth the cost. I would suggest to anyone who has not done it go to Radio Shack and spend about $50.00 for a decibel meter so you know at what db range things are going on at.They are easy to figure out and will be a great aide in setting up the second most important thing after the speaker, the room.If you don't want to take the time to work at getting the best sound out of your setup or are limited as to what you can do maybe the best idea is to leave well enough alone and to PK. I myself would not just give up and send the x-overs back with out trying some other options. After all we are modifying something that was already a good idea and messing with changing the stock parameters is taking a risk but one that with a little time and effort can be fixed if it at first doesent sound a we think it should. In my case the little extra expenditure trying different things was well worth it.If you don't want to spend the bucks for Al's Attenuators I think He and Dean have come up with an Idea that will be about 1/4 of the cost of Als Attenuators plus solve the problem but I would recommend the Attenuators if you can swing it as it gives you more options and you might want to change something else down the road. All I know I am glad I did not throw in the towel as my K-horns sound awesome.Next the room.
