  1. aaaaaahhhh!!! actually, that is not the consensus distec. nobody has reached an agreement yet on this issue, and I don'T see it being resolved anytime soon. however, for the pros, no need to go with expensive wiring, the performance of those PC speakers does not warrant it.
  2. nice setup, great bang for the buck viv. although the sub is a bit on the weak side, well to my tastes anyways... which goes a long way to explain why i was initially disappointed at the promedia's bass! that's a good basis for upgrade though. I can very well see you buy a used prologic receiver and some better front speakers, thus relegating your present speakers to rear duty in a pseudo 6.1 ES or EX system (whatever you wanna call it)... then you'd obviously upgrade the sub (if not even before the last thing i said) to something that BUMPS like a good Paradigm PW 2200 or an SVS sub... then upgrade your receiver... you get the point.
  3. HAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAAAAA!!! This thread is soooooo good!! It cracks me up every time, esp. Mr. Blorry's posts... Expressions like "the liveing dead" and "readjusting their pacemakers" just make me laugh my head off!!! It's ten minutes after I read the last post, and I'm still giggling... "two years older than dirt"... oh my God I've got to print this out and frame it...

    dvd reviews

The Haunting comes to mind immediately. Amazing bass throughout, GREAT visuals, available in DTS. Top Gun, obviously, to showcase your sub. Of course The Matrix, a classic by now. U571 has a great picture and makes constant use of the surrounds. Gladiator's visuals are also very impressive. Ronin's car chases are quite deadly if your front speakers aren't matched. Saving Private Ryan is of course recommended for the sound, available in DTS also. Titan AE with the included DTS soundtrack has great highs and lows, and the visuals are also impressive. Toy Story, both of them, have great sound and an even better image (can you say "direct digital transfer"?). Of course all animation movies such as Antz or A Bug's Life all have great pictures. The Eagles' Hell Freezes Over is now a classic in music DVDs. Also try Super Speedway, it's pretty amazing.
  5. or if you just want to play a dvd in your dvd rom drive, you can use powerdvd or windvd, they will downmix the ac3 signal into 4.1
  6. well, from what you say, i would think the center channel would be quite an improvement... depending how far from the monitor you will be, or whether you are going to have friends over...
  7. only problem, we can't get it from the usual web sites in canada... or can we order them directly from the distributor?
  8. mike, to tell you the truth, i think the geforce and Radeon are pretty much equal. they both have advantages. i got the Radeon because it was the same price as the Hercules Geforce 2 GTS and because it had better performance than a Geforce 2 MX (according to the sites I went to), but the Radeon was more readily available to me and i thought it suited me best. but I wouldn't mind if I went with the geforce instead. nobody agrees on that issue anyways. whatever, I know that my card gives me very good performance with the games i play, and that's what matters, isn't it? I'll be upgrading before I can actually realize the frame rate dropped anyways, since on my system the vidcard is the bottleneck. oh, BTW, I think the additional 32 megs is really useful, and even though the card may not exploit it to its full potential, there is a big increase from 32 to 64 in all the tests i've seen. compare the hercules cards, for example. hey, shouldn't you be at school? I don'T see you on icq...
  9. have you guys checked out the fish screensaver? www.serenescreen.com
  10. well, the pros are not close to perfection, unless you factor in the price of course. yes, the miniplugs must go. but that's up to sound card manufacturers... and since existing speakers have miniplugs, and people are satisfied with them, i don't think they really have an incentive. besides, i don't actually know whether there would be a big difference with RCA plugs.
  11. if you are using an sblive 5.1 or an acoustic edge, nothing is easier. center channel out into the 2.1 front and rear outs into the 4.1 or v2.400 set sub to no and all speakers to large. it's easiest with the AE because it's so configurable...
  12. 1) my ATI Radeon 64 DDR has a good TV out, no need to go for the All in Wonder 2) gaming... i don't know, Unreal Tournament looks really good on my Radeon, and the anti aliasing for flight and racing sims is very sweet... 3) there is a DVD decoder in my Radeon. but, like most decoders, it sucks. the image and the sound is crappy. that's why I use PowerDVD, like lots of other people that have mpeg-2 decoders.
  13. it would be less time-consuming and expensive to just forfeit that and buy a good can amp from headphone.com...
  14. see what i meant by service and trying their best to serve the customer? :-) thanks amy
  15. plus they'd have to include a decoder, so increased costs
  16. do you know a headphone amp that is of good quality except the ones designed for heapdhones? i mean the ones of preamps and receivers and stuff...
  17. let's not forget ATI has some good TV out too
  18. what about the 6.2 system? it would work as well or better than a 5.1 system...
  19. guys... 1) calm down guys, this is starting to get ugly for no reason 2) i read the whole thread again, and there's just one thing from the first post that made me roll on the floor laughing... " is run by some dorks that dont know anything."... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!! This company is one of the oldest, most respected company in audio. Their success is undeniable, and they have been offering great products to audiophiles and enthusiasts for a LONG time. Just the success of the promedia systems crushes your statement to death. Just sell the speakers on ebay and shut up. 3) Mike, I'd have to disagree with your appreciation of Klispch's service level. Have you had to deal with them? Most people who have have come away VERY satisfied, saying the service was the best they ever encountered. The tech support and other staff are obviously very busy, there is a lot of demand for them. But once they get ahold of you, they really take care of you and go to great lenghts to make sure they turn your opinion around. Anyways. 4) a quick link: http://www.klipsch.com/ubb/Forum10/HTML/003053.html let's not start the whole dispute all over again, it happened a few weeks ago, i won't let it happen again!
  20. i don't have gold connectors, and although i have a value, i think it may be because the original value cards didn't have them, but the updated version from a couple months ago have them. just a wild guess.
  21. the reason is because before they were available at best buy, nobody saw the box before they bought the speakers and they were in their home unpacking them. so no need for fancy graphics.
  22. you don't need to turn off the speaker, by the way, they automatically switch to a suspend mode.
  23. the fact that the problem stops after you reboot indicates that at least the ringing problem is not the pros. as for the rest, we can't say for sure
  24. in my humble opinion. took me a while to figure it out too... :-)
