  1. Ears would say that Klipsch should be made in America, it wouldn't change the price that much. If you can, go with the logitech z-560s, they were just released and look promising. This is a big thing for me to recommend a different product, I've been a Klipsch supporter since the beginning, and I saw the first review that said that Klipsch was beaten, and for cheaper. All other systems were able to beat Klipsch in some things and loose in others. The biggest strength of the pros was the rock solid, low extending sub, even though it would "fart" from time to time. Logitech is boasting 188 watts to one 8" sub, which is a lot of power, almost as much as the 5.1. IGN said it was simply better, and 100-150 dollars cheaper.
  2. Uh, no. The 890s are not crap, but altec likes to sell speakers that focus half and half on sound quality and features, where as Klipsch is 100%. You don't see any good features on the pros, but they do their job better than any other system (games and dvd). Look out for the new altecs though. Although I'm starting to look at ign as a imcompetent bose lover, they said that the sub beats the pros, which is an amazing feat. They also said that the sats midrange was more detailed, however the imaging isn't as good, and their is no transparency. I'm still suprised that the sub was better though. (biggest multimedia sub to date, bigger than 5.1s and dts)
  3. Huh, better imaging. If you want better imaging get a better speaker system, I don't see how taking off the control pod will help. And no, there is no easy way to take it off.
  4. I'd like to know what forums all the old G's went to, where's hofy, paragon, seb, etc. I see them making random posts here, but they don't hang here any more. Must have gotten bored.
  5. You might want to send it in to Klipsch and buy a new one, they probably still have some in stock, and a sat can't be that much. But I'm assuming you don't get technical support where ever you live considering you can't get the 5.1s yet.
  6. That might totally screw up the balance hes made on his shoulders, the 5.1 sub is quite a bit heavier, and the 2.1, well I guess that would work for the 2.1.
  7. I hate to say this, but I almost prefer the sats pointing a little inward from my ear, the tweaters can get harsh at high volumes, and the off axis makes it sound smoother. It also lets the sub have more presense, cause it high volumes it can be drowned out by the sats, at least thats how it was on the v.2-400s. I hate to say, the high frequency domination of the klipsch is starting to annoy me on certain tracks, it's perfect for hiphop, and the tweeter does wonders at full volume when playing the sound of a trumpet. But on some tracks, it sounds like the focus of the sound is the low range of the tweeters.
  8. First of all the conditions were logitech vs klipsch in a side by side comparison. Catch, logitech controlled songs, volume, setup, and probably other factors I can't think of. Ears is right, for $200 it isn't easy to "smoke the pros". And to beat them in volume AND sound quality(not just one), they'll have to sell their speakers for a cost that won't allow them to make much of a profit, which most companies aren't willing to do. I'm assuming they were playing really low bass at high volumes where the 8" on the z series has the advantage in quality, probably not output.
  9. Actually that's pretty far from the truth.
  10. This is totally based on reading, but I read that the mark levingson is better across the board than the krell, and at least in sound quality. Remember, based on reading, not experience. www.audiorevolution.com (responding to below) This message has been edited by Btrigg on 09-29-2001 at 08:33 PM
  11. Ears, who really needs 600 watts per channel? I'd have to say mark levingson 336 for a better amp, even if it is rated at close to have the power. It's more than enough for any speaker.
  12. First make sure it isn't your sound card, and it's probably the pod, the sub doesn't just randomly break. And you can exchange the pod for a new one if your under warrenty, and if your not get the cp-1. Just wondering, how can you "just notice" that your front speakers aren't working, were you high or something that you listened to them awhile before you noticed the fronts were gone? Hehe, I'm just joking.
  13. I think main volume at 90% is the highest without any distortion, but that's really loud, I used to have mine at 60% main, 100% everything else. You can also turn the bass down to 30% and compensate with the sub knob to get rid of midbass on the sats at high volumes.
  14. Um, I can't speak from experience, but the revel is much tighter, I don't think any 18 sub is that tight anyway. This is based on what I've read though.
  15. I try to avoid pointless posts, unless it's on this topic, or hofy's.
  16. I'm glad the topic is up and running again, only it's way OT. I'm not sure how ears is ahead of me after 2 weeks after I've been here for like 8-9 months. I try to only put input when needed, I guess.
  17. So does the that make the klipsch actually louder/better than the hgs-18?
  18. Just wondering, is the rsw series expected to "keep up" with klipsch towers. From what you guys said, really no single sub besides the krell can keep up in volume with the klipsch. Is the rsw an exception, what about the revel b-15?
  19. The most important thing is the bigger sub, and you can't upgrade a sub, you have to replace it.
  20. Your joking right? You can buy a gold plated one at Radio Shack for $5. No, it doesn't come with a y-adaptor, and all you need is the one from RS.
  21. Well, you have every right to hate klipsch right now, but to put it in perspective, they are just pc speakers. There is no reason to go mad for from not getting a working set. I'd recommend finding an old pair of v.2-400s, or upgrading to 5.1s if you ever get a refund. But from what it sounds like, you will never buy anything from Klipsch again. It's a little weird that the 4.1s actually are worse than the v.2-400 when you figure the defective # of each system.
  22. I didn't totally understand what you said, but I think you were asking how to connect to your TV. What's an sblive pc vid card. If you can connect your 2.1s to your tv, all you need is a y-adapter to connect the 4.1s. If you have front and rear on your sblive, you don't need a y-adapter for that. The y-adapter lets you plug 2 1/8th in plugs into one source, that should be all you really need to know. BTW, for my tv, I need a "/8th inch to rca" adapter. This lets me plug the pros into the red and white composite jacks on the back of most TVs.
  23. About blowing the sub, after a lot of full volume use, if your limiter is working, you can't blow it. About the gasping for air around 70, the sub doesn't have flat response, so that is probably about as loud as it gets. And the sub is meant to blow major air. Try putting a piece of paper against the port when the bass is playing at full volume.
