  1. I fired off an email to SVS the other day with floor plans and listening habits. I've decided I'll like a 16-46 PCi or PC+ better than anything else I've seen. It is more than the sub-12 etc, but the SVS will be better for my listening habits. Now I just have to decide how long I can wait to buy one. Buy now, get the PCi ; buy later, get the PC+. Sigh...
  2. Thanks for the info. I'll get to work on that tonight.
  3. Update: I've thought about all this for a couple months now. I want to buy the SVS 16-46 PC- Plus, but I don't want to spend that much right now. The sub-12 has been recommended with a price of around $450. I've seen a few RW-12's on ebay for around the same price (minus shipping). How does the RW-12 compare to the sub-12? I think I want to buy the RW-12. Any thoughts?
  4. I want to post a demonstration of the 64' Diaphone stop from the Atlantic City Auditorium organ I have on CD. I was planning on posting it in AIFF or WAV. Which would be better? Also, where should I post it? Thanks for the help.
  5. Or, it's like a cancer with no cure. You spend thousands on treatments (upgrades) and it stays with you for the rest of your life and you die with it. Only unlike cancer, it is contagious and can be transmitted by direct or indirect contact. But all of that's ok. At least you die happy!
  6. Nice setup. Especially the RSW 15's. What I wouldn't do for some disposible income...
  7. Thanks for the email pathighgate. I bet our spekers came from the same thing. I don't remember model numbers, but I still use the Sony all in one for the subwoofer ("Superwoofer"). I gave the center channel and front main towers to my brother in law. Now I need matching surrounds and a sub to make my modest system complete!
  8. Where did you find the S5's? I'm putting feelers out for some and I was wondering where to find some. Thanks
  9. Nice. I work at a Chevy dealership. We have one just like that in the showroom. Lovely. Is yours the automatic/paddleshift or standard. If I bought a Corvette (non Z06) I would get the automatic. It's a mite quicker. Congratulations! That red is a cop magnet. Edit: Also, I would suggest a polymer-based paint sealant rather than wax. Polymer lasts longer and feels better. And apply it by hand. And no circular motions either. I was taught to apply the sealant the same direction the wind travels over the car (I mean front to back, not side to side). Trust me, I was a detailer for a while.
  10. Wow. I just read that great article. I didn't realize how important it is to blend your midrange drivers with your subwoofer. It hadn't occured to me. I'll be getting a SPL meter soon and I'm going to try the THX calibration that comes with the Ice Age DVD. We'll see how it goes.
  11. I was JUST going to add that the Wanamaker organ is the worlds largest FULLY OPERATIONAL pipe organ. The Atlantic City Auditorium organ is larger, but not fully functional. Come to think of it, I have never heard the Wanamaker organ. Does anyone know of any good recordings?
  12. I don't think most of us realize how much bass that thing has the capability to output. You might be able to use it to recreate a sonic boom. Just don't explode your head. On second thought, maybe one of those is my ticket to accurately reproducing the foundation to pipe organ music. Now I just need to sell my cars to buy it and move out of this apartment to hear it. Have fun!
  13. OK. ONE more question. I've recently become interested in the cylindrical subwoofers that SVS offers. I'm wondering how the following two compare to each other. Thanks in advance. 16-46 PCi PB12-ISD/V also, how would the 16-46 PC-Plus compare to the forementioned (it's priced higher than the $600 price point that I started the thread with, but I just got a promotion at work so maybe I can swing it).
  14. I would recommend two maybe three CD's. Organ of the Mormon Tabernacle (Klavier K 11044) Romantic French Fantasies (Klavier K 11069) That organ is simply world class. Outstanding. I have a recording of the Atlantic City Auditorium Organ (the largest organ in the world) that has two 64' stops that play into the 8 hz region. It's not the nicest sounding organ nor the most in tune, but the sheer quantity of sound and dynamics that come from it is outstanding. I have yet to hear it played on a system capable of reproducing the bass division and do it justice. http://www.acchos.org/html/store/cd_detail.html
  15. TheEAR, do you think the PB12-ISD/V would be too much for my current system? Will my current AVR run it? This will be my first real subwoofer purchase.
  16. Ok, so now I'm looking for a SVS PB 12-ISD/V. Is there any other place to buy one other than SVS's own website?
  17. I'm looking at the offerings of SVS. I like the PB12-ISD and the PB12-ISD/V (I'll have to save a little more $$ for that one). How does the Klipsch sub-12 compare? I'm not really into the DIY stuff.
  18. Here's my story. I found a set of KSF- 10.5 at a pawn shop for $70. One of the 8" drivers were missing, and I found a new one for $30. No problem. I have the KSF- C5 on order to complete the front speaker setup. Now it's time to find a subwoofer to match the rest. (BTW my receiver is a Harman/Kardon AVR 135.) The system is mostly used for movies, and occasionally for music. I listen to jazz, classical piano (Vladimir Horowitz is the man) and organ music; and not the small tracker organ stuff. I'm talking ranks of 32' and 64' pipes etc. I know I have a small budget, but I want to know what would be the best fit. I've been lurking around these forums for a while, and this is my first foray into the real HT experience. I've had a crappy 1990's Sony system with a floppy sub and underpowered everything and now I have a great set KSF series speakers a great receiver (remember this is my humble beginning), and now I want a sub to match. Physical size does not matter, nor color. Right now i'm not partial to any brand. I've heard good things about the SVS line but really any brand will do if it fits the bill. There is a lot of good advice around here and I'm looking forward to reading it.
