  1. if you have been here a bit you know i have a like new set of show special Belle Klipsch which i hardly use. Every now and again i get the urge to sell them mainly because i don't use them and/or the wife is pissing me off and i don't want to move them. Christmas has just passed and the holiday music played with beautiful resonance. a thing of beauty to be sure - i can't imagine a nicer sound. there really is no other speaker - but now they sit there unused - just collecting the daily mail. Next step => i have an 8 year old son - great kid- he received and ipod for Christmas and wants to play video games on the pod. i told him it is not about the games on the 1" screen but the music. What music he said? what do you like what do you want to hear again? "can we download some more games" he replied.!!!! i have apparently failed in music education of my kid.!! (we sent the ipod back because the sound was/is terrible and bought a Zune and a Sennheiser headset ) where i lived before here we had a lot of really great radio stations. here(central virginia) even with an antenna i can't get a decent sound source. so i guess the thing to do here is to have music on all the time-let him decide what he likes- and i thought maybe the sirius sat radio would provide a constant stream of music. i know a guy who has one and it sounds ok thru a boombox or car radio But Does Anyone Here have experience connecting sirius to their klipsch stereo? is it a good thing? OR burn your favorite music to a cd and send it to Hanley thanks bob rob
  2. label speakers have been in the box for half of the time out of town - moves and i put them away when doing any major dusty work on the old house the cane does darken some with age and could use a wipe down now
  3. photo right spkr think i'll go read camera manual it's not how they look as much as how they sound if you are serious maybe someone nearby will bring an integrated amp over and check them i can thank photo shop for the wavy interference pattern if you right click and save (to desktop) then open the photo the wavies aren't seen
  4. will take digital photos tomorrow am what size in KB ? where are instructions to post here?
  5. these guys are too cheap i'll sell you my 1980 wo (special cane grill) belles for $2400 hardly used never abused with original boxes
  6. ya got a job? if the wfe objects to the plain look of the la scalas' tell her to look in the mirror if she still objects ask her for her key to the house and get her a reservation at a local motel get a lawyer get yourself free if she wants her own room- buy her a good hammer and saw and get a pile of wood i'm 57 yrs old now my mom wanted the home her way -my wife is the same it is a misery of crap female expectations if she doesn't like the speakers -walk =it gets alot worse
  7. if they hadn't been beat i.e. carefully used by an original owner i'd pay that- $1500 is ok if he sells them on an online auction and has to ship them it will cost $150 to pack them -maybe he will reduce the price a hundred $ the seller being local is a $200 - $250 savings to you cuz you don't have to pay shipping if you can get the original boxes that is a big plus it's more about the sound -- if you get a great deal but find you don't like them; it is a fair piece of exercise moving them -- it's a clear sound without the excess bass of modern speakers you might find the tweeter a little bright tho i just clip the treble back a notch if you like them you will keep them forever i have had my belles for 25 years & wouldn't consider anything else
  8. does tube space charge count in a tube type pre amp if you are using a cd player for input? what is the ouput from a cd? is a nice tube pre/amp going to help take out the nasty edge from a cd? what is the output voltage from a cd player?
  9. guess the final price i say $ 4100 what is your estimate??
  10. let us see i gave my 1976 heresy pair away after i bought a pair of belle klipsch and heard the difference and at $406 your minimum hasn't been met?????????? what are you thinking??? $400 is a great price you should pay the shipping at that price
  11. thanks for the posts i'll start checking them out. the hi-fi market for 2 channel sure seems to have moved to a higher priced niche. certainly not what i expected. i expected to find some decent performance in a modern amp with out going hi end in price the thing that makes me reticent about old tube amps is i had them in the early 60's people used to throw them out or give to you when mono changed to stereo or when they moved . i had scotts and dynakits and a zenith mono amps recievers mono fm tuners. some worked some i had to fix some i just took apart. i had some old speakers magnavox i think.now and then i would upgrade the speakers man those old amps were heavy- must of been 2 miles of wire in those transformers- but those transformers always warm to hot and now they are like 40 years old?? those old components were nice but i never thought they were special -maybe if i had better speakers then i might have a higher opinion of the tube amps' quality what really frys me now is- i had 6 old amps left in my folks attic and you guessed it they cleaned up the attic - threw em out along with about 400 new and used tubes and 5 antique radios (and a complete set a playboy magazines) he paid a guy with a truck $50 to haul it all to the dump ! who would of thought people would be recommending this 40 yr old audio now? that dyna ST 70 kit looks like fun what would be the preamp for it? thanks again for the posts
  12. hey thebes thanks for the post very thoughtful !! seems you understand what i'm thinking i'm looking for something recent and decent new stuff doesn't seem to have the output transformers but at least the newer stuff isn't 40 years old if i want an old pain in the butt i'll go out to the garage work on my 64 sl i don't know how many belles, lascalas and khorns are out there but i can't believe someone hasn't built an amp that perfectly matches the big klipsch speakers
  13. what amp and speakers do you have? as for the vintage amps i had them in the early 60's they were ok but nothing better in the last 40 years??? considering the advances in electronics in the last 10-20 years i can't imagine someone hasn't made a better amp
  14. thanks for the positive comments guys so far i have had recommendations for: jolidia 102 & 202 all tube integrated amp made in china (a lotta stuff we buy made in china seems to go to the garbage in 6 months) $600 & $850 doesn't have bass or treble adjustment jolida 1501a tube pre with ss amp $1100 made in china -see above-no tone controls again arcam A-80 used $800 good reputation but uk brand made in china -seems i bought some NAD amps uk brand made in china-not a good match for quality audio not sure i want to go there again there was a pair of mcintosh 30's for sale last friday for $1495 on audiolog but by monday the price had been raised to $2000+ then you have to rebuild em replace some resistors you have to replace the capacitors and retube and pray the 40 year old transformers are still good then i have to buy a pre/amp this is more the price of the speakers AudioSource Amp 100 $150 Pre-One/A $150 made in china < actually came recommended > i guess if it's trash i'll be $500 less pissed when it goes to the trash the belles have been with out an amp about 4 years now = new house /15 yr 5% mortgage &paying down the bills comes before tunes the 2 channel audio marketplace seems to have changed and the choices are fewer
