  1. CCAD = CC Army Depot, they used to let me boorow parts for our Search and Rescue UH-1 when I was maintenance control chief in Corpus. Now I test these when they come out of the factory:
  2. so this must be a job transfer with a post navy job??? Based on your screen name, i figured you were retired Navy. I retired in '96. I work for a defense contractor now.
  3. 50/50 chance I will transfer there next 60 days. I was there from 87-90 and checking on what has changed if anything.
  4. I only run one system at a time ............. ....... again, I only use one system at a time, hasn't caused any problems ....... 2 systems, 1 JBL sub, got the sound I want, what more can I say !!!!!!!!!!! Same here, one system at a time using Niles 12 volt triggers, current sensing and speaker selector configured as source switching (between Denon AVR HT and McIntosh amp to front mains) with enough delay dialed in that one system is OFF for several seconds before any switching occurs. I will try the L/R combo
  5. So, using my SVS PB12 /Plus 2, I can connect my LFE out from the AVR to the left input of sub and the center out from my Mc C-28 pre-amp to the right input of the sub? I wasn't sure of the signal path in the sub and have used a Niles switcher to achieve this when I was in the mood to give the sub a try w/ two channel. I didn't want to back feed either with the sub signal.
  6. Thanks Klipsch parts dept. I ordered the PR for the Forte IIs LATE Monday and they were on my doorstep this morning. Installed and presently a little Steely Dan with them in front unobstructed......so far I think I like them better than my Chorus IIs, d__mn I really didn't want to say that since I've been hauling those things across every continent there is.
  7. Thanks for the welcome, I recently retired this stack for power and went to the Denon on board amps and Mc.
  8. I kept every box I ever had until my Iceland 3 yr venture in '92. My brothers in the Air Force cleaned our the storage facility that will all used to keep our stuff in and all went to the dump even with ID tags and contact info[:'(]!!!
  9. First vedict in... in my room with my treatments, my squeeze in from corners to TV, my taste, etc...in 2 channel with Jolida thru Mc playing Dire Straits and Dwight Yoakom for a variety with a Markers Mark or 2 following a dinner at HOOTERS the Fortes win. Haven't tried but I think the Chorus IIs will win in HT mode.
  10. and the BIG problem. I stand about an 80% chance of being relocated within the next 2 months by my employer and the wife thinks I should leave the man cave intact with the house as a selling incentive for a buyer. Yes, the whole system included. I have to give her some slack, she's deaf (literally) and doesn't get it.
  11. Thebes, Just re-read your post and caught the byline at the end[] Since I was (am) a Chief gotta think thru that! My thing now is (please don't shoot me) I use a Niles switching system to change my front mains over to 2 channel duty when called upon. I will take the advice of learned one and check the sound. So far I know the Fortes are quite a bit less efficient then the Chorus IIs but I LIKED the sound. I am having a troop movement now and will place the Fortes in formation and see what they are made of. I have to break out the laptop, mics, etc and re-calibrate the system to allow for the change in main efficiency.
  12. Yep retired Navy jet mech, P-3 Flight Engineer, SAR crewman and door gunner.
  13. I bought the Jolida from a local shop (HotRodAudio) modified because I had sold off all my two channel rigs and then hated the sound of a CD thru the AVR. I bought the Pro_Ject table and then started wondering what I should do with my CD collection...tube CD or get a DA converter and stream from the PC. I spoke with the owner of HRAM and he invited me to his shop. I auditioned, I bought. GREAT folks there. Bottom line is that it is the closest I have heard to sounding analog. I would like to hear one with the clock mod but I love it as is. It has Russian tubes from the mod and I have the stock Chinese but have not listened to them.
  14. Thanks, first a disclaimer on the Forte sound. I found them thanks to this forum's link on Craiglist and the original owner 's moving company damaged a passive radiator and a generic PR is in place (origin unknown). New one is currently on order. I have only listened to them as positioned about 4 inches in front of the Chorus II so a little (?) help in the bass vibrating the Chorus PRs. I absolutey love the sound, so much so that I am having a little problem deciding which pair to use as my mains in the HT as the HT gets much more use than the two channel. My plan was to connect a pair to a spare MAC 1700 hybrid receiver but the "one who must be obeyed" doesn't want the "kids" upstairs. Secondly I am soliciting opinions on where next to upgrade/update. Should I go with all new crossovers and diaphagms (got a quote from BEC) or send my two channel McIntosh stuff off the the guru foe a overhaul. I have no known problems with any equipment. 15. Raised the Chorus IIs and Quartets since birth, adopted Academy a couple of years ago and the Forte II's this week. The Rs-7s are the step children.
  16. When you calibrate the speaker levels starting the procedure will normally first direct the tone to the LF speaker. Select the range on your SPL meter that allows you to reach the dB setting recommended by your receiver manual (I've seen 75-85 dB). Let's use 85 dB for example. When the tone is output from the LF speaker, adjust the volume of your receiver so that the SPL meter is registering 85 (if meter scaling requires you to have 90 then simply set volume now so that -5 is shown on meter and your receiver's On Screen Display adjustment for the LF speaker is null (0). Now without making any further adjustments or moving SPL meter, advance tone to next speaker and then adjust that speaker's level plus or minus as required to make it match the LF. Continue around the room and make all speakers match. My Denon allows me to combine the rears as 1 setting if desired, pay attention to what your receiver does with the speakers. Once set you can feel free to sweep around the room a couple of times to see a good match. Enjoy.
  17. Frzninvt , et. al., soorry for the delay in posting, one of the worst work weeks in my career. I will respond soonest via email / PM. I am certain I have the 400x, 224x and 3DBIII manuals here for anyone who wants them. AS soon as I get a breath, I will scan them if you want anyone or all. I'll even post all the manuals I have to share if there's a desire. I would rather not split the DBX group up as there are family bought together but I may be persuaded.
  18. I have a 224X, 400X and 3DBX III with original manuals but have misplaced the rack mounts. Boxes are gone finally got tired of moving them. All one owner and currently working in a system. I was planning on putting all my excess equipment up for sale but never did the research or took the time to get organized enough to do it. I would sell rather sell thru this forum then the "bay". Don't want to violate any rules here so....
  19. I'll wager that OSHA would not be impressed. Sorry, I'm sitting at work on a Saturday and had to take a break from getting ready for an upcoming audit from safety. Actually, I wish all my stuff was made like that. I ordered a receiver from a local dealer that offered a 10% discount if I paid up front. I paid and got no receiver. After waiting 3 months full of excuses, I contacted the manufacturer, discovered that the local dealer had never placed the order and got one delivered in person in one week. I killed that unit one month out of warranty (entirely my fault as I shorted out a 12 volt trigger) and was given a brand new at no charge because of the past hassles. I didn't asked for a new one, just shipped it off for a paid repair. Someone, somewhere in the company remembered by past stuggle a year in the past and gave me a nice present with a "thank you for being a customer card". Edit; What's up with the 1 post stuff, I haven't been able to access this in a while, user name/password issues.
