  1. Wow... just... WOW. Painted them black? UGH! Amazing. As I recall the trim on the front was African Bloodwood. What a shame! Do you still have the Edgarhorns? Wanna part with them? I'd love to try them with my K-horn bass bins!!!
  2. Hey Tom -- yes, that's me!!! I haven't seen those cabinets in a while. BTW, those Peavey cabs were adorned by Tom Woodbury (of the *original* Sonoran Audio Designs) in Tucson. Nice guy... now you know who prettied them up! Chris
  3. Hi Michael -- these are the same ones! Haven't heard back from Dave in a while and these are taking up space on the porch. Shoot me an email at cmcougill at eiu dot edu and I'll send you a pic. I am in Charleston, IL -- we had talked about some LaScalas that I had this past year if you'll recall! Hope you can use these. Tks, Chris
  4. These are still available and need to disappear NOW. Anyone want to pick them up before I have to torch them? Chris
  5. Thanks for the tips. As for diaphragms, I have prices 802 replacements, and may go that route in time. However, I do have the Fostex bullet tweets as mentioned and will use those as well. Thanks again!
  6. If you were an electronic crossover feeding Klipschorn bass bins and Altec 511 horns, where would you be set? Your friends, in this scenario, are an Audiosource ss amp driving the Klipsch and a velez 300B amp handling the 511's with 808 drivers. I scored a pair of Yamaha F1030 crossovers (manual available at http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/pdf/pa/english/signal/F1030E.pdf) and am anxiously awaiting their arrival. I had the Audiosource laying around the house and plenty of cables to hook it all up, and the Yamahas were purchased for far less than I would have spent just buying passive crossover components. I loved my old Pioneer electronic crossover feeding my A7's back many moons ago, so I thought I'd give this a try. Thoughts would be very much appreciated, as it's been years since I played with slopes, frequency settings, and the like. When they get here I want to have a reference point to start from for experimentation. BTW, the Klipsch are loaded with K33's right now, but I have a pair of Gauss 5840 drivers I could swap in as well, if they might be better. I also have a pair of Fostex bullets I will be addind in to the high end. Thanks all!
  7. This thread us killing me. I had three 210 cabinets, loaded, complete with the multi-cell horns (1005's ???) and 288 drivers. They all came from Purdue's inventory, and I am embarrassed by what I paid for it all. Hell, I evenj had the huge crossovers that were original to the set. I had to rent a UHaul trailer to pick it all up -- it was too much for my brother's pickup. Damn, I wish I'd had the wisdom to keep at least some of that stuff. Damn...
  8. Cool -- the same seller is offering a case of "protective underwear." [:$]
  9. Mine would be the rare "HH" option finish for "Hellaciously Hideous." Imagine, if you will, a K-horn so ugly that even it's mate is embarrassed by it. That would describe both my cabinets. One is painted black, and the other was veneered in (I'm completely serious) the fakest looking blonde-oak Formica you have ever seen (until I ripped it off). The former is a mid-late 60's model, as near as I can tell, and the latter is a '58. I am going to try sanding and see what I have to work with, but may have to just veneer them. We'll see. In other words, I'm still working on finishes. I may just do the "trim" piece along the bottom to match the horn baffle... who knows?
  10. Email replied, Dave. I also have a big, apparently home-made corner cabinet (slightly larger than a K-hon bass bin) that I need to make disappear. Dave, you have dibs as you'll be in the area anyway, but if you don't want it, I can make it available to anyone who can collect it soon. I am going to pull the old Jensen 15" driver from it to sell and recoup a few $ from, but the cabinet is just a big black mosntrosity that I hate to turn into firewood, but is of little/no use to me. I have a few pics of it, but don't know if I can figure out how to post them.
  11. BTW, can anyone else relate to the frustration of being stuck at work while new projects await at home? I found these K-horn bass horns this weekend, and lucked across a pair of Altec A7's yesterday to contribute the 511 horns and drivers for hi-freq. duties. I just have to find time to haul it all into the house, make room, assemble, and, finally, LISTEN! However, I also have a job, and a kitchen floor that is 1/3 refinished and very unsightly at the moment. Sigh... to have an extra 24 hours in the day!
  12. Thanks for the input! I could swap them both in to have a listen, but I figured the K33's might be a "slam dunk" choice, and I'd thus avoid having to climb around in the bins and rish damaging one whilst swapping them all out. If I don't get more advice to the contrary, I may just leave the K33's where they are and let them do the job they were designed to do. Another question -- what was the Klipschorn bass cabinet good to (in terms of upper-end frequencies)? In other words, what can I ask of them when I built a crossover, or set an electronic crossover if I go that route? Thanks again!
  13. Amazing work, bluesboy. That baffle is gorgeous. I have a 511/Fostex bullet setup I want to try on a pair of Klipschorn bass bins I just acquired. If you have an idea of what that baffle might cost (unfinished would be fine -- I can handle finishing and oiling to keep my budget where it belogs -- very VERY modest!), please post or PM me. It would really tidy the look up. Thanks!
  14. Gents -- email doesn't seem to be coming through. Please shoot me a note at cmcougill at eiu (dot) edu and I'll get back with you. A word of warning -- someone blocked the vent (port, whatever you want to call it) in order to use the opening to mount the 511 horns and drivers inside. The wood panels used to block them off need to be removed. Still, not a bad price to pay for free cabs. BTW, if anyone has a pair of 500 hz crossovers I could use for experimentation with my new setup, I'd be grateful! I can return them in time, of course (or buy them if the price is right). Chris
  15. I'll watch for your email (it's not here yet); these cabs are ugly as sin, but solid and complete.
  16. I bought these for the components, but hate to turn them into firewood. Can anyone use them? Pickup in Charleston, IL only. Chris
  17. Howdy folks -- I just picked up a pair of K-horn bass cabinets. These have K-33 drivers in good condition, but I also have a pair of Gauss 5840 drivers here that I could use. I would assume the K-33s are the better choice, as the cabinets were designed with that driver in mind, but some of you may know better. Whichever pair I don't use I'll eBay to help pay for some crossovers for my project. Many thanks! Chris
  18. Where in Central IL are you? I'm over in Charleston...
  19. All stickers are spoken for as of this very moment! I'll try to score some more this weekend, or perhaps a recipient could scan one in hi-res for those who did get one (?).
  20. Alright, everyone, I am left with 3 more. Send PM's and I'll send them out in order to the next three who ask. All who've posted, PM'd, or emailed so far are covered. I'll try to snag a few mailers from work and get them out ASAP!
  21. OK, I think I am about out of these now! Let me go in order of those who replied or PM'd first and I'll see if I can grab a few more this weekend. FWIW, these are self-adhesive, and actually read: CAUTION HAZARDOUS NOISE AREA MAY CAUSE HEARING LOSS HEARING PROTECTION REQUIRED
  22. I only grabbed a handful... no worries on shipping. I'll check this weekend (I have drill again) and see if there are any more I can liberate. LOL... your avatar is what reminded me to post the offer! PM me your address if you want one!
  23. hey Folks -- last Air National Guard drill weekend I found a small stack of yellow noise warning stickers that were going in the circular file. I am going to place one strategically over the garage stereo system, and though some of you might like to do the same. They're the size of standard 8.5 x 11 paper, and as I said, yellow with black print. Says something like "Warning: Hazardous Noise Area / Hearing Protection Required." I have them at home if anyone really needs to know exactly what they say. Free for the asking, providing postage doesn't kill me (I haven't shipped a 8.5 x 11" envelope in a while). Just couldn't stand to see them go in the trash! Chris
