  1. I am wrestling with the thought of picking up this preamp for cheap, but don't know much about it. Are these good preamps? I love the vintage stuff, and own a Phase Linear 3000 series II preamp and it works fine. I just don't know if the 4000 would be much of an improvement. It looks cooler. I am hoping someone on this forum has experience with this preamp and can shed some light on this subject for me. The seller says it works but the pots are dirty. I figure that is relatively common considering it has been sitting for awhile and the age of it. Tom
  2. Merry Christmas to all on this forum and to all your loved ones. I hope everyone has a wonderful day today, spent with their family and friends, if possible. Tom
  3. Forgive the wrong description as I am not as savvy as many on this forum. I should have said, with the kick in the chest thing going on, they seem to me, to have a more prominent low frequency affect. That is the low end seems to be accented more than with the K-33's that were in my other Cornwalls. I hope that is a description that is acceptable or closer to how I want to describe it to make it more viable than the last. Of course this is only my experience with these. Others may have a quite different experience. Tom
  4. I have a pair of Cornwalls that incorporate the K-43's. I used to have a pair of 73' vert. Cornwalls that I assume had the K-33's in them. The vert's. were stock and the boxes have never been cracked open. That is why I say, I assume they have the K-33's. The Cornwalls with the K-43's, to my ears anyway, have a better bass response. They dig deeper and kind of hit you in the chest, where the one's with the K-33's didn't seem to create that chest pounding experience. Don't get me wrong, they sounded great. It just seems like the K-43's hit harder. Tom
  5. LOL! You guys are all nuts!
  6. I have come across an ad for two Dukane monoblock amps rated at around 18 watts each. I know nothing of these other than they are vintage. Does anyone know about Dukane and are they a good find? Please shed some light on this subject. Tom
  7. Yes Jay, I can surely wait until after the 26th. You can send me an email or if I don't hear from you by the 30th or so I will shoot you one. I am very grateful for your offer to help me out in this. Have a great holiday and I look forward to hear from you. Thank you, Tom
  8. I picked up a Marantz 300DC amp and a Marantz 3250B preamp. The seller also threw in a Kenwood KT-413 tuner. Got them for a song and a dance. They all work but am experiencing lower level volume and static in the left channel. I am hoping a good cleaning will take care of this. I am going to hookup my C26 to the amp to make sure it is the preamp that is the issue. Does anyone have a manual for any of these that they would like to share? I will pay for copies. The amp meters seem to be working properly. No static when adjusting gain. Tom
  9. Sold 5 minutes after posting and picked up 30 minutes after posting. You got to be fast! I guess I'll have to buy a lap top and drag it around with me. LOL!
  10. I just had to put my frustration down in words. Last night I was cruising the Seattle-Tacoma craigslist when I ventured upon an ad for Belle-Klipsch for $750.00. I immediately called the phone number that was listed, only to get the answering machine. I left a message with my contact number. Of course I did not receive a call back until today. The voice on the other end of the phone informed me that they sold less than 5 minutes after posting. He also said he realized after the fact, that he let them go $1,000.00 less than he should have. He did let me know that he has some McIntosh gear that he is selling. The prices on those items were at the high end of the spectrum though. Recently I have been missing some very good deals and it's been irritating the heck out of me. I guess it was just not meant to be. I think I will change my member name to, bummed out in the Northwest! Tom
  11. This is my first deck. I have not tried recording yet. I am checking out all the prerecorded tapes that came with it. I know that there will be several tapes that I will want to record over and this will give me an opportunity to try my hand at recording. I have in the past recorded on cassette tapes (in the late 70's and early 80's) it's been awhile. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks, Tom
  12. I purchased the 9200XD for $50.00 and am very pleased with the functionality and the sound reproduction. The unit came with 30 or so prerecorded tapes and a degausser, a tape splicer, and two mics. The tapes are probably worth more than what I paid for the whole deal. Now, I just need to learn how to use it properly and take full advantage of it's capabilities. One question though. The machine makes a bit of a hum. Not real loud but just enough to notice when it is sitting idle. There is no unwanted noise through the speakers. The playback is excellent. Tom
  13. Anybody know anything about these? In particular 9200 XD. I know it was manufactured in 74'. What I am wondering is, good, fair, or poor, example of a reel to reel? Hopefully someone out there knows a bit about these and would be willing to share some thoughts on this subject. The asking price is $50,00. I believe it uses 71/4 in. reels. Tom
  14. Glad you're happy Tom, those are my thoughts regarding the comparison as well. Plus it does matter what music you're listening to. For that reason I collect em all! But very glad you've made another step toward audio nirvana. Michael Michael, if I didn't have this darn financial limitation, I would have a few more. I need to get a pair of Klipschorns and a pair of Belles before I can even think about being done. If it takes too long to acquire these I will be setting my sites on the Jubilee. That scares me. Is there no end? Sitting here listening to Stanley Clarke/George Duke, and loving it. Tom
  15. A few weeks back I traded a pair of 73' vertical Cornwalls in great shape for a pair of Lascalas, also in great shape. I am so impressed with the detail of the mid and high end of these. I use my 75' Cornwalls for my rock and blues, and the Lascalas for jazz. The Lascalas are magnificent. Cornwalls may have them beat on the low end, but, in every other aspect the Lascalas win hands down. I would like to thank the forum member who made this audio bliss possible. Thank you Sam. You have made me a very happy Klipschter. I hope that the Cornwalls are fitting in with your plans. Tom
  16. Gary, They look beautiful. You have done a great job resurrecting the old gals. How are they sounding? I can't wait until I am able to latch on to a pair. Grandaughter commanding attention, gotta' go. Again, great job! Tom
  17. If you are serious about trading a pair of Lascala's for a pair of Cornwalls, I would be interested in this. I have a pair of 75' Cornwalls with K-43 woofers and I have a pair of 73' vertical Cornwalls. You could take your pick. Tom
  18. I have two pairs of Cornwalls. Maybe you should trade me your K'horns for 1 pair of my Cornwalls. Lets talk. LOL. Tom P.S. I live in Western Washington. Not too far away!
  19. Gary, thank you for posting the pics. of your procedure. I have never done any of this type of work before, but, after viewing your pics and seeing how easy it can be by being so methodical in your work, the fear of attempting such an endeavor has subsided. I have a few vintage speakers that could probably benefit from this procedure. Great job! Tom

  21. Installed the C-26 in the case this morning. Wow, the thing looks beautiful in all its splendor. I think the music even sounds better. Who would have thought that the case would enhance the sound. LOL Tom
  22. I got home this evening and found a package in front of my door. The excitement welled up inside me and I could not wait to get it inside so I could bust it open. The anticipation of waiting for this package was getting to be unbearable. Thank God it finally arrived. I had been waiting since the 16th. The darn thing was shipped from the Midwest and the wait was so long because of the flooding. I often thought the worst, like, it got lost, or, it got water damaged. But low and behold here it sits, no damage from water or mishandling. I now have a very good looking wood case for my McIntosh C-26. I am too damn tired to install it right now, so, I think I'll just look at it tonight and tomorrow put this bad boy to use. It certainly doesn't take much to make me happy these days. Tom
  23. Gary, welcome back. Congratulations on movin' those bad boys in. Good luck on the project and hope to see some of the pics. and hear about the progress.
  24. LOL, thats great. You're too much! Hah. Yeah It's hilarious. Is Oldtimer is is posting as Romy and doing a bang-up job of imitating him.? If so, my hat is off. Great imitation but poor use of time. If not, I have no idea what that last post means. Either way, Oldtimer is acting like a douchebag. You know Kev, I guess one shouldn't make fun of anothers grammatical errors. I found humor in this, I guess, because of the way Romy seems to look down his nose at others. I am sure he is more intelligent than I and I don't have a problem with that. It just seems if someone is going to try to come across as one of the most knowing of audio enthusiasts or what ever he chooses to think of himself as, he could choose words and spelling to fit such a level of genius. I certainly mean no harm to anyone in any way. In fact I am quite impressed with the vigor in which he attacks his quest. Tom
