  1. I just switched to a Magnavox HD upconvert DVD. It sounds better than my CD player and my Sony DVD.
  2. I soldered spade connectors to my speaker wires. I did not check the resistance before I did the soldering but post job is .3 ohms. Is this OK for 12' of speaker wire? Are there any charts that give nominal values. Thanks!
  3. Amen Brother!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I've said 100 times mass exageration in going on here. Craig Okay, I have not heard Jubs. I have heard: LaScala, Heresy, Cornwall and Khorns. LaScala + a good subwoofer beats them all. Heresy + vinyl/Beta a close second. Cornwall + metal a close third. (I LOVE old metal!) Khorn + tubes a close fourth. Am I a golden ear audiophile? I doubt it. Do I love music, no doubt. The difference in all the speakers I have mentioned is negligible to my ears. I would not give up my LaScalas for any of the others, but I would love to own all of the others. I suspect Jubilees would make my list and maybe even best my LaScalas with the subwoofer, but I would not buy them until I heard them. To me it is just too subjective. Sean
  4. This is interesting. http://www.intellexual.net/bose.html I've owned Acoustimas with passive sub and agree with this assesment.
  5. Black Sabbath- Paranoid Tracks- Hand of Doom and Rat Salad
  6. Wow! That sounds like alot of fun. Maybe somebody close to South Louisiana will have something like it one day. I would love to get a chance to listen to some really nice gear. Anyway, good luck Andy and have a blast! Sean
  7. Sounds like the Outlaw may be perfect for LaScalas plus subwoofer. Has anybody tried this combo?
  8. So what else do I have to look forward to? Maybe Klipschhorns or tubes?
  9. Okay I'm flipping channels and run across Lawrence Welk. I turn on the stereo and wow the sound is awesome, the music is sweet! I can remember being so upset when my grandma turned Lawrence Welk on. Now I really like it. So what gives, am I getting old? Maybe the La Scalas have opened my ears to a whole new world of music.
  10. The children woke us at 03:00. The joy in their eyes was magical. I am truly blessed. Hope everyone has a magnificent Christmas and God bless. Sean
  11. I wouldn't give $1500 for them, but I would't take $1500 for mine! Sean
  12. Dude, cool wife indeed! When I told mine I wanted a 1000 watt sub amp she said,"You don't need a 1000 watt anything!" So, how does it sound? Sean
  13. As for the missing octave at the bottom end, that's definitely true, but a good sub fills it in nicely and should be a part of any La Scala setup. I concur. I loved the sound before the sub, now I can't stop listening.
  14. Our perception of "soundstage" or "detail" or anything with sound is simply not limited to any particular frequency band. The combined total of every frequency determines the timbre, which also includes the lower notes. Get rid of the bass and the mids are going to sound a bit thin and harsh. I've always felt the biggest advantage to increasing low frequency extension is a perceived improvement in the mids. I think you nailed it. I am beginning to get a better understanding of sound reproduction. Timbre, it seems, is what makes the sound better for my ears. I think this is what I've had trouble nailing in some of my DIY projects. What are some aspects of speaker design that have the most affect on timbre?
  15. As I stated earlier I notice an improvement in soundstage and detail. Seems weird that this could be so. What would be the reason for this? Sean
  16. http://www.partsexpress.com/pdf/295-420vented.pdf http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=295-420&ctab=10#Tabs This is exactly what I built. It is very impressive. We ran it in a friends Yukon with 1000 watts and it is ridiculous! I have it hooked up with 100 watts and turned down to match the LaScalas. I don't think 100 watts is really enough for movies but for music it is good for me. I plan on buying a 500 or 1000 watt amp to run with it. Total cost to build was about $250. Sean
  17. I finally had the time to hook up my 15" home brew sub. The results are AMAZING! I didn't think things could sound much better but have improved in every aspect. Soundstage and detail seem to have increased while the overall sound is much warmer. I don't want to stop listening. Has anyone had similar experiences with adding a sub to their LaScalas? Sean
  18. I recapped my LaScala's with Sonicaps from Bob Crites. The improvement was subtle but very pleasing. Definitly gives better detail to the music and a cleaner sound. I am happy I switched them.
  19. Yeah I guess I'm just being lazy. When I'm done with the Man Cave it should be easier to stay organized. Thanks for all of the input.
  20. I'm thinking about buying a CD player that can hold 100 or so. Any recommendations? I'm getting tired of having to track down CDs. Sean
  21. Thanks The laminate color is called Rio. Never heard of it but its like Cherry with a very slight pink hue. Got for $.84 square/ft. Sean
  22. Couldn't take it anymore. Had to sit and jam for awhile. To this point, 3 days later, still no help.
