  1. I also use a mac mini and an airport. Super easy and great UI. I have it hooked to the tv and use my harmony to control it, so it just like another component. Not sure if all tv's do this, but when you connect the mini as a monitor, it turns goes to standby when the mini puts the monitor to sleep.
  2. Is making this change even worth it? Would I gain anything, or are any differences between the midrange speakers compensated by Audyssey or the like. Its my understanding that the horn is the most important component for timbre matching, but thought that the mid range would also be helpful.
  3. I have been thinking about whether it would make sense to swap the k-1055 drivers in my KSP-300s out for k-1057's (which come in the KSP-400s). The reason I ask is because I am wondering if the switch would give me a better match with my KSP-C6 (which uses the k-1057s). My main concern is that every speaker that uses the k-1057s (KSP-400, KSP-C6, and KSP-S6) uses two of the midrange speakers run in parallel. Excuse my ignorance on the point, but should I be concerned about there being any impedance issues? Would I need to rebuild the cross-overs to do this? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Charlie
  4. Quick note. If you are trying to get the newest lossless sound out of your receiver, I'm not sure if the Pioneer 91 will work for you. It might be just the 90, but some fo the new elite models only pass-through hdmi. I have had my eye on the 92 for along time myself. I currently have an older elite, and couldn't be happier with the sound and quality. Good luck.
  5. The "heat" is actually just a fan that pulls hot air from a kind of communal heater for the building. I had a similar problem in my last apartment (so that makes two), but there I had an actual heater as opposed to just a fan. So far, I have been able to prevent the popping/crackling by fiddling with the switches and knobs I found when I started to take the heater assembly apart, and setting it so it will only go on if the temperature reaches 45 degrees. This is not really a solution, unless these heaters always make audio equipment act strange on power-up and power-down. The only other possible factors might be the age of the receiver. It works perfectly, but is over ten years old now, which I wouldn't have though would be a problem. I would sort of expect to see a similar response by my tv or by some other electrical product, but have seen none. Everything is plugged in together (I would change the circuit of the power center, but I really cannot move the entertainment center because of the cable placement). I gues I have a temporary fix, but any further conjecture on the source of this annoyance is oof course much appreciated. Thanks, Charlie
  6. I can't believe I am the only person to have this problem. When the fan for the heat or air conditioning turns on, and the receiver is turned on, I get a loud crackling noise in the speakers. I'm sure its not good for them, but its also super annoying. I have had this problem in the last two apartments I have lived in. I use a Belkin line-conditioner/surge protector, and everything should be grounded - i use all 3 prong plugs. Any suggestions? Thanks, Charlie
  7. I was just reading about the airport express on the apple discusion board, and you may be happy to know that it uses apple's lossless streaming format, and can be hooked up to your receiver using a mini digital optical port. Seems like the best possible method for wirelessly streaming the music. Hope this helps.
  8. Not exactly sure if you are hoping to get super-high fidelity, but I am generally happy with my airport express. It serves as a wireless router and also allows you to stream itunes wirelessly via a mini-plug from the airport to the receiver. It additionally lets you print wirelessly. And of course it is easy to set up because its an apple product. Bonus is that it only costs $125.
  9. These look like a steal. Can't use them, but though someone might be interested.
  10. oh, sorry there is a typo. I have ksp-300s for main fronts, and a ksp-C6 for my center right now. I am trying to decide about getting surrounds, either the s5's or s6's.
  11. btw, I am only really trying to put together a 5.2 system right now. I was thinking that if I find some s6's I could use the c5's for rear speakers and the s6's for sides in a 7.2. Thanks again for any advice.
  12. Hello, I have a KSP-300 and KSP-S6 in a 3.2 set-up right now and was wondering if you think a KSF-S5 would be a good match. I know that the perfect match would be the KSP-S6, but as you probably know, the S6's are really hard to find and usually very expensive. At what price do you think I should get the S5's as opposed to waiting and trying to get the S6's later? Thanks.
  13. Hello, I feel your pain, but just wanted to let you know that not all us newbies are trouble. I am new to the forum but have been a huge fan, and owner, of Klipsch speakers for over 10 years. I recently bought a speaker off the forum from a member (who can identify himself if he wishes) and the transaction went smoothly. I am glad that this thread has not turned into general newbie hating, but was not that suprised considering how welcoming everyone here is. I can also say that not all of us with limited posts are merely transitory visitors trying to take advantage of the board and its members. I visit often, but rarely post because I am so humbled by the knowledge many of you seem to have. Don't worry, I am trying to soak as much as possible so I wil be able to contribute more soon. It sounds like a bunch of you got some pretty raw deals, but just thought someone should stick up for us that are new to the board. Thanks, Charlie
  14. I have the 32" Sony Bravia S-class which I am very happy with. You can get a Sony - KLV-32U100M 32-IN BRAVIA monitor (no tuner) for only $740 at butterfly photo if you are only going to use it with a cable box and xbox/ps3. http://butterflyphoto.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=KLV32U100M I got my television from Butterfly Photo and would recommend them. Not sure if this is the lowest price anywhere, but they are usually the cheapest, or very close, on flat panel tvs.
  15. Anybody have one they are looking to sell? What do you think is a fair price? I just got a ksp-c6 and am looking for some to use as fronts. Thanks.
  16. You might be able to track down a used set of ksb 3.1's on ebay (I think there is a pair on there now). I have some and love them.
  17. Does anybody have a ksf-c5 or ksc-c1 that they are trying to sell. I have been looking everywhere and would rather get a speaker from someone who I know has taken good care of it, rather than off ebay. Thanks
  18. I am just starting to assemble a small ht set up and was wondering if the c-2 center will provide a good center match for my ksb 3.1's which will be my front speakers. I know a ksc-c1 or ksf-c5 are ideal, and an sc-1 would be ok. It seems like the c-2 is the replacement for the sc-1 so I was wondering if it will provide a good match or if I should continue to try and get a ksc-c1 or ksf-c5 off ebay. Thanks
