  1. What do you prefer, using the Klipsch risers or putting them on stands? I know Klipsch suggests the risers as they enforce the bass. Your thoughts or suggestions.
  2. In the search for that perfect sound, I found that the crossover for the mid horn on the II's is down at the lower and higher point. I corrected this by adding a new mid horn with a frequency of 400hz to 9,000khz. I added L-Pads to tame the 99db 8 ohm horn and in so doing have made the II's even more refined. I was also searching a speaker forum and found if you put the II's on a platform 24" from the floor and place your II's horizontal with the horns inside and toeing in, the sound is even more precise and makes the soundstage wider and higher.
  3. I have owned Proton for the last 12 years and they have been wonderful listening years. I did update my Proton pre-amp for an Adcom GFP-555II which has proven a match made in heaven. I own the Proton AA - 1150 which is hailed as the world's most powerful 50w per side power amp. It has 7db of headroom and it is truly a powerhouse. They have powered the wonderful 86db Dahlquist DQ20's and sounded fantastic. In 1998 I decided to return to the sound of horns and went with a pair of La Scalas and most recently added a pair of Heresy II's. Some will say tubes are the only way. As a theatre pipe organist I know what come's out of the various pipe chambers and with my system I am hearing exactly the very same sound. Do yourself a favor and audition the Proton. It is one fine amp!Textf>
  4. Hello: Just finished reading all of the various remarks on the Heresy I's. I am a theatre pipe organist and nothing to me sounds finer than the "King Of Instruments" with the tremulants on it's the sweetest of the sweet. With the trems off it's a great French sounding Cathedral pipe organ. Having said that, I have been in the audio circle for long enough to know what sounds good in loudspeaker design and what doesn't. Over the years I have owned VOT'S ... JBL'S ... and the best of the non horn family. I enjoy having a 28' by 32' sound studio in my home and have auditioned all of the non magnetic speakers from Klipsch. I even recently had a pair of Avantgarde Duo's loaned to me by a good audio salon buddy. Many of my musical circle are working sidemen for the countries best performing jazz and classical organizations. Being a former broadcaster I knew most of the name band leaders which prompted me to write this reply. Klipsch by far was and is the leading loudspeaker in their music rooms. My system is: two inverted Heresy II's per side united with a Velodyne ULD-18 2 updated sub. For pre and power I use audioresearch. The comments of harshness, etc. are not in my system. In fact several jazz CD's on a highly regarded label were mastered in my studio. What I am saying is: The Klipsch Heresy II's are used by more recording studios than any other name brand. Why? They are accurate! What was recorded sounds the same when listening. Recently I did some tweaking and added a pair of Philips planars to the mix per side with an audioresearch crossover network. Results: My classical playing friends noted an air of natural sweetness. My jazz playing friends liked the sound for the lilt. Conclusion: When I play a note at any pitch on any stop what I play is what I hear through my system. Even my wife is a fan! Best, Craig
  5. There are some of us that don't subscribe to the thought of shielded loudspeakers. Tests have been run and the results are disturbing. Shielded loudspeakers are great for Home Theatre. They are not for pure two channel audio. Give me a pair of non shielded Klipsch Loudspeakers anyday. If you are into audiophile music you can hear the difference! In one of my listening rooms is a fine pair of Heresy II's and in the main studio is a pair of K Horns. In my tv room is a pair of RF-3's. Just ask any true audiophile and he or she will agree with the above. If not, email me. ------------------
  6. Go with an Audioresearch pre. The quality and the sound are one in the same. I bought my new. However, I have seen some on the various used web sites. ------------------
  7. The upper crossover point on the Heresy II is 6000hz. ------------------
  8. Back in the 1970's owners of the large Advents would use four of them. Invert the top pair and the sound was quite interesting. My question is: Has anyone done the same with four Heresy 1's or 2's? If so, please inform me of your outcome. ------------------
  9. For under $5.00 you can sweeten those wonderful "Horns" we all love. Felt and double-sided tape and cut to fit all four sides of the mids and high horns and enjoy! Our local band director was here a few weeks back to listen to my KLF-30's and he said there's that darn blaring Klipsch sound. I had him over tonight, 9/14/00 and he asked if I replaced my loudspeakers. Why I asked: I am listening to a really warm sounding Stan Kenton and man do they sound fantastic!!! ------------------
