  1. It depends. How much is an image worth to you? The people looking into the super expensive speakers are merely purchasing the image that goes along with the aesthetics and pricetag - not necessarily performance. If you're intrested in performance and the image, I can think of a Klipsch speaker that will run about $15K that will blow everything outta the water. Or you could spend about half that and get the same performance without the pretty look to it... Excellent advice, Mike.
  2. Roc, It is driving me crazy. Only two years ago, I had a cheap Kenwood receiver and some small bookshelves. Now, with my McIntosh amp and RF83's, I find myself constantly thinking about upgrading. Most recently, I bought Cardas speaker cables (1200.00) and a power cable (265.00) I hear no difference. I kept the products, but where the hell does this thinking process end??????????????? You have excellent speakers and a really good amp. So sorry to hear about your cables. I've never believed in super expensive cables for speakers or interconnects. I just worry about the guage for speaker wire. I don't believe that there is any difference with high priced wires except, of course, the difference in how much of your money gets spent. Your good with your equipment. Now it is on to room treatments/equalization. That should keep you busy for quite a while. We are all chasing the progress being made in technology so "frustration" is guaranteed.
  3. Yea about time what with all the sweet spot talk and all.
  4. Be true to your school.
  5. "Space and money priorities"? You are in the wrong hobby with those priorities. Just kidding. I understand your point.
  6. Sweet music to my ears. Sweet sweet music.
  7. The tuning of a HR is based upon the area of the mouth, and the volume of trapped air behind the mouth (think tuned pipe). What you do is put a vent in the wall at a location where you've got a peak from a standing wave. Behind the vent you would create an airtight volume of air inbetween the studs. The only catch is that you need to know what frequency the HR needs to be tuned at, and where the peaks of the standing waves are in your room. If you're off by even a bit, the HR will pretty much do nothing. Speaking of which - I wonder how that would play into problems shifting around as people and furniture changed in the room...[^o)] The idea in your last sentence is something that I have been worried about for some time now. If I do measurements and room treatments for my room, then what? After doing this what if I decide to rearrange the room or experiment with different speaker locations, won't I have to remeasure and re-treat the room? This would be very frustrating, every time I make a change in the room. The realities for me are that most likely I will want to try different speaker locations over time and most assuredly my wife Janet, eventually will want to rearrange some things is the room? And how well do room treatments work for just me in the room vs. 5 people in the room? Isn't this also a factor? How would I prevent obsolesence of my room treatments once the changes mentioned above begin to occur? Please advise Mike.
  8. I don't have either brand, JL or SVS. I have an RSW15. So what could I possibly have "sour grapes" about? Maybe that I have neither. [] If anything, you're the one who sounds a bit "sour" about all the attention the JL gets, and obviously biased toward the SVS product; any SVS product. [] You've not heard it yet, or read any reviews, yet you're certain it will best the JL. I didn't consider that to be a bash of the SVS product. I simply think the JL will have more finesse than the SVS. Sometimes finesse isn't necessarily what you want. A defensive lineman and a wide receiver can both be stellar athletes, but they both serve a different purpose. (yes, I realize this is not the best analogy.) We'll have to wait until the dust settles and see what the reviews say when the "13" becomes available. LOL CAS is a bit partial to SVS... [] Me I could care less,I get what I want to to the job,and now building better subs than JL or SVS for massive output down deep. When you start using 15 and 18" ubber drivers you forget about less capable subs. [] Not dual f113 are not capable...just as a few members here who own them and Roc... [] Can tell you they kick major woofer. In other news... ... By the end of this year I will have ALL the TC Sounds dually subs...from TC-1000,2000,3000,5200 to the LMS-5400. TheEAR takes no prisoners. And I will also add another f112 and get dual f110's. HA POWAH all in a tiny...600cu ft by then room....the more I add the more it shrinks... Nobody has the subsonic concentration I have and when I am done I will by far have the most subsonic capabvility on this planet...per cubic inch in a room! Go baby, Go.!!!! Don't stop.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. That's a bit of a carried-over "what can we still say now to make ours look better" statement. Have you heard a TV-12 or brand new Ultra-13? JL by any means isn't the top of the line in SQ and SVS isn't the bottom. I know you're a "MUSIC" guy, but to bash like the above especially with the high-quality driver in question sounds like sour grapes [] Finesse? If sealed is your taste the Ultra-13 is designed for that, too with the included plugs. Slap the 7-year old W7 in a sealed box with pretty lights, mark up the price and call it finesse? If you want to I guess. Sorry, I'm not trying to sell either one and I apologize for the slight bash, just a reaction; it just seems like whatever product SVS comes out with some people will always have negative things to say. It's the Pepsi/sub challenge; put them side by side with a blindfold on and I bet you a paycheck you'd have to eat your words. [:^)] I would put it differently. "Side by Side" you probably wouldn't be able to distinguish which sub is which. The f-113 has the advantage of small size. How large is the Ultra-13?
  11. I find the f-113s to be very musical and not just a special effects sub. Of course I am very biased because I own two f-113s, so don't listen to me.
  12. EAR, your comments make me happy. Thank God you have been consistent in your advice.
  13. Yeah, but we've got these! And they LIVE in your lawn! And there's MILLIONS of them! And they won't go away no matter what you do! Oh it's horrible let me tell you.... You have my sympathy.
  14. Blowing out candles is more fun.!!!
