  1. I guess a decent 150wpc amp isn't really so expensive that I should count it out forever. Ok, well then, considering the criteria again, what should I get if they're run off an amp? Cornwall's kind fit in there with the forte/chorus line up, don't have the modern look, but I would buy any of them if they just sounded amazing. I should just save for the 83's......
  2. I just liquidated most all of my speakers, and have about 1000 to spend on a pair of floors. I plan to just go 2-channel for a while and used rf-7's seemed like the way to go, except that I've read 298 posts about needing more than a denon 1906, which is what I'll be using.... Subwoofage is being taken care of, seriously this time (116db at 15hz, anechoic) I'm pretty much considering everything: klf 30/20, kg 5.5, f-3, rf3/5/7/35/82.(chorus/forte's just don't look right next to a hd...) Will any of these, besides the 7's, have serious issues off the denon? Are they all about the same db wise over 60hz? Some priorities: 1. "pleasant" at over 100db (everything but the 82 and maybe f-3 has me from barely to very concerned here) 2. slam, and something i find very interesting, "fast?" woofers. new metal bands have bass drum so fast, that it just sounds like a 30 hz tone out of inferior drivers, instead of, you know, getting hit 30 times a second, almost soley a subwoofer issue, but its actually recorded/mixed quite high too.. 3. general sq, detail, clarity, imaging, (insert random audio term) 4. price 5. intimidating looks, i believe the wimpiest in this group is still dual 8's, so.. 6. new? 7. trying to not cry if its knocked over or beer is spilled on it 999. waf Thanks in advance Alex
  3. I have a 100% mint black kv-3 that I'd let go for $150 plus shipping. Not a fingerprint... almost
  4. Once I get my money for my heresy, and sell my rf-15's, kg1's, and kv-3, and get my tax return, I'll take it..... No, seriously Alex
  5. I just bought the kg1's and kv-3 to build a forte setup, but I won a bunch at the casino saturday and want the big daddies (83's) I bought the rf-15's from ultimate electronics in July. The kg1's are walnut and in amazing shape, come with black stands. Kv-3 is black, and looks like it just came out of the factory, 100% mint. Rf-15's have light cosmetic damage, I have pictures of everything thats not mint rf-15's 200 kg1's w/ stands 150 kv-3 150 Im in Springfield, MO. 65807 Thanks, Alex Miller alex123@missouristate.edu I'll have pictures of the other two tomorrow.
  6. anyone else? I'll be looking once I sell my rf-15's and rc-3. Thanks
  7. I recently purchased kg1's and a kv-3, and am now shopping for mains, but because my system is at least 90/10 music, dvd's, I thought this should be over here... For 2-channel, considering the chorus/II and forte/II, are they all similar enough in low end response that I'll either want a sub with them, or not, depending on my tastes- or are there substantial differences? I like everything from Bach to The Who to Metallica, and they will be run off my new denon avr-1906. When it comes to the kind of sound I'm looking for, tight musical bass, and bass-midbass balance is high up on the chain, but I've also really started to love the crisp detailed highs that my new rf-15's deliver. It'll just make me close my eyes... I know that any of those earlier mentioned are going to just stomp the rf's under 100hz, but I don't want to sacrifice the high end clarity. If anyone has listened to any 2 of those 4 on the same setup, and can give me some feedback on their observations, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance Alex oh, can anyone give me a ballpark what those have been running, I don't want to ship...
  8. How do the forte/forte II's compare to the kg 4.2/4.5/5.2/5.5's? Does anyone near Springfield MO have a pair of ^ I can listen to before I drop a bunch of $$ on speakers I've never heard? How far do forte's need to be from the back wall because of the pr? Are any/all of the speakers above video shielded? For those that aren't, how far do they need to be from tv's? Thanks again
  9. I have kg1 surrounds and a kv-3 center. Should I consider anything but forte's or forte II's for mains? Thanks
  10. I'm using the coax digital output on my sound card to send audio to my receiver, would a new/better sound card increase my sound quality? It seems that since its not doing any digital to analog conversions itself but instead outputting the digital, that its not contributing to poor sound quality at all. I believe I have a Realtek AC'97. Thanks in advance
  11. i guess i'll make it a new thread, the heresy will be for sale...
  12. i'm gonna see what this goes for first.. seems about identical to mine http://cgi.ebay.com/KLIPSCH-HERESY-H-WO-VINTAGE-SPEAKER_W0QQitemZ320087732751QQihZ011QQcategoryZ61378QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  13. It will be for sale in july or august, as will everything I have now, except maybe the kg's, if they'd make good surrounds for forte's, because I want to buy forte's. I haven't decided if I'm going to have the heresy refinished yet. I think I will make more money on it if I do, especially because I know a guy that does that kind of thing. What would you give me for it now?
  14. He talked me into some kg1's also. All I can say is damn... got those w/ stands for $85. Current setup is completely botched, but... rf 15 mains, rc-3 center, kg1 surrounds, and a heresy rear surround... I a/b'd the kg1's against my rf 15's, and w/ the sub off and both set to large, i'd pick the rf's, but on small with the sub, I'd honestly take the kg's. Amazing speakers. I plan on having my girlfriends uncle refinish the heresy, when it comes to resell value, should I have him to walnut or oak veneer? Thanks
  15. I'm getting it today for $75 plus gas...
  16. A single 72 heresy, perfect sonically, rough cabinet for $130. If I don't want it later, will I be able to get my money back?
  17. How would it do as a center in a heritage based ht? Possibly Cornwall mains, and probably more heresy's in back, but II's, because those are easier to find. Thanks
  18. Hey guys, was there a '72 heresy? I can't find it on klipsch's discontinued products page, and I might have found one for cheap, assuming it exists. Wondering if I should pick it up. Thanks
  19. I just got my denon avr-1906, refurb from ebay for 257. Hooked it up, and its awesome. The integration of my sub with the mains is soooo much better than I could get it with my old receiver. I didn't think id get it this smooth without some expensive stuff. I'm happy, -3 at about 30hz, with a +4 at 70. Only disapointment is that there isn't a quick sub vol on the remote.. not too bad. Now I have the reciever for 2 more in the back, need some more speakers. Thanks for your input that led to this purchase
  20. i have another question though, with the denon, i can use the rear surround outputs to bi-amp my rf-15's if I want. should I? Also, if I don't, is changing out the brass thing on the back of the speaker for speaker wire really that different, i remember reading that. Oh, and is there anything wrong with running a normal rca cable as a digital coax cable? What's the difference, is it impedence? Thanks
