I've had excellent results using regular old mineral spirits. Since it dries fairly quickly, it has even removed sticker residue from digipak cd's.
Has never failed me or caused an issue yet!

Yep, me too. Altho now, I'm searching for any speakers and electronics.
I also check the local bargain bulletin every wednesday, hit garage sales regularly, and whatever else it takes to satisfy my inner desires. Helps to be a childless couple, altho the boss is telling me we are running out of space for all of my krap!

Be careful with # 2. If you remove the horn with the speaker laying flat, a screw could fall into the unit.
If you unscrew them with the speaker up normally, the driver may just fall out. I would hope, if you had been moving the speakers, it may just be a loose wire. If the wires are attached, I'd check other wires in the box, as you should be able to see most of the interior with a flashlight and a mirror.
Hopefully you make out cheap and it's just a loose wire!!

If you cannot hear any distortion when playing music at normal levels, why would you fix it?
Maybe the distortion has been there for a long time and was not noticeable. I'd run it til it quit and then look for
a replacement, if you prefer not to use the dvd player.

Klipsch usually made oak and walnut Forte's, and if they found defects at the factory, they just ended up painting them black satin.
Usually go for $250 to $500/pair, but you'll lose value with chips, dings, water rings, blown drivers (from being played too loud, altho never a problem here !)
If I were selling mine i'd advertise here, with my City/State, as local pickup is best, w/o shipping damage by the Gorilla Handlers. Craigslist, etc.
Good luck with the sale. If they're too loud and too large, someone else can enjoy going deaf with them!

That's way more than I'd pay but be sure to check out the poly drivers carefully, as the owner may not even realize
that one could be blown. You can only find original replacements on ebay, or similar drivers from Klipsch are very pricey.

The 661 would be a fine HTR.
When I got my Yamaha RX-V659 earlier this year, I wanted a sub and narrowed it down to 3 choices of companies: Outlaw Audio, SVS, and HSU. Ended up with an HSU STF-2 and it's worked well for me in my 11 x 18 x 8' basement room. I would only buy a subwoofer from an authorized dealer or internet company with a warranty, UNLESS it was a GREAT buy.

Sounds like your TT is amplifying everything in it's path. I don't know if direct drive TT's are more susceptible to this than belt drive, but you may have to remove the lid, and/or place the TT on the floor.
Why did this problem just develop - did you just get the TT recently? You have to keep experimenting, hoping it clears up or give up the ghost and go digital.

Are you absolutely sure that none of the 8" drivers are blown? When I bought my set a few years ago, one kg4 sounded different from the other,
and found a dead 8 incher. However, it still had decent sound, and never had any issues with bass, even with flat tone controls. Placement will
make a huge difference - and will sound terrible with certain rooms and flooring, etc. Hope you get it worked out as these are good speakers!

Can you try a different location for the turntable? It could be picking up sound, rumble, or vibration from the speakers and amplifying it. Sounds like you have it grounded properly.

What did Fed Ex do to it? Was the carton damaged at all? Since that was an open box item, maybe it was used, and that is how they sent it.
That looks like minor cosmetic damage to me, and I'd probably just leave it if the grille covers the front and the speaker sits on the bottom.
I think you were lucky to get it in the condition you did and at the ending sale price, I'd probably send Vann's a thank you note!
As to the damage, I'd try to do it myself first.

I've had my 4's since last May, and since the last year, heard that there are no longer parts available for certain CF models,
except thru ebay, etc, if someone parts them out. As for your replacement woofers, if Klipsch supplied them, I'd consider
them good as is. You could always put a/the replacement in the other speaker, hence making them the same.
I thought I had neo magnets on the woofers, as they were supposed to be small, which they were, when I had the crossover out
to tighten nuts up. I got mine at a very good price, from the original owner, who purchased them in Grand Rapids, MI, back in
late October, 1995. He paid $999 each for them.

Now you got me pokin' around my cf-4's! My ser # are 22659xxxxx and I can see green, black, and red wires coming out of the crossover by looking into the ports with a flashlight. I'm satisfied with the sound for a partially deaf guy!

Not all plastic is created equal; these days, it can be very fragile, and susceptible to complete destruction, by all things, cold weather!
A friend of mine bought 6 of these style containers for a work related issue, and when he got to work, found that 2 of them had shattered into
many pieces by simply dropping them on the ground. It was very cold outside, which turned a normally flexible item into complete junk.
Looks like the adhesive tape is the only thing holding it together!

I see you have an equalizer in your system. Be very careful when running any kind of boost when turning the volume up to 11.
I am usually able to keep my tone controls flat on my sytems when running cd's or dvd's, and over the years have damaged speakers with too much boost at some frequencies. Also, replacement drivers for both CF's and KG's are pricey if available at all.
I've added a subwoofer to help with the low frequencies on my CF-4's since I can't really crank it without upsetting the boss or my already damaged hearing!

Congratulations, I see you have the 2 - into - 1 speaker system installed - nice tone?
Seriously, I was looking at cycles too, but ended up with another pair of Klipsch speakers instead.
Last year I missed out on a Honda 350 Scrambler at a rummage sale but I'll be looking again this year.

If you are selling the KV4, someone on this forum was just looking for one. Kind of a rare bird that goes well with the EPIC series speakers. Probably get about $250 for that. You can post items for sale here and hope someone in your area is interested, or try Craigslist.

I'd go with a receiver - most any common one will be able to handle the kg2's. If I was in a hurry, I'd go ebay, otherwise check Craigslist, garage sales,etc. Not sure what city you are in, but they can be had fairly cheap.
Kenwood, Pioneer, Sansui, Nikko, Marantz, Technics, Mitsubishi, Sony - man, there's a lot and more out there just waiting!

On second thought, if you need more "boom", why not add some subwoof-age?
That'll also allow you to get some deeper HZ when you have it turned down from 11.

$1300 is still too much. I'd wait for another month or so once the price drops down under 1K.
Still, I'd much prefer local pickup and would want to see/hear them.

I would grab those immediately - they are worth much more than that - at least the 8.5's!!
The sub is probably not a good match for the fronts, but doable for the price. I'm always a little learly on sub amp's,
but if operable now, what the heck?

My initial response would have been to clean the screws with wd-40, and re-use them. My guess is that it'd take 50 years
for the rust to travel to the woofer frames, if that. Also, who the heck would order just a dozen screws from a mail order outfit?

Since the efficiency is very close at 98 & 99, that is kind of a wash, but the Forte does go down lower, 32 to 36 hz.
Size wise, about the same, but I think I'd be more apt to spring for the CF-2's. I have Heresy 2's, Forte 2's, &
and CF-4's, and they all have the same type of signature sound. The only other caution of getting the CF-2's is you may
want a subwoofer to plumb the depths. I think the CF is the better buy at the cost difference.

Since the forte's go down to about 32 hz on the low end, you'll probably want to get a sub that can go down to about 25 hz or less. my vote is a HSU vtf-2 or 3, both of which are 20% off right now!
I am currently using a vtf-2 with Heresy's that sounds fabulous.

I think you guys are paying way too much for speakers. I'd never go more than 1/3 the cost of orig retail, and if something
is old/obsolete, I'd go 20 to 25% of list. I think $550 is way too much, and there are better deals to be had.
