  1. Yea! Klipsch kits would be great! Sign me up! For those who can not afford a pair of their "dream" speakers, Klipsch kits would be a way of making it affordable. I' ll buy a set of the Cornwalls! or maybe a set of Chorus's! or maybe ....
  2. We own a pair of the Mackie SRM 450 powered speakers for a portable 35mm projection system our organization takes to parks. I am really impressed with them. I would like to purchase a set of the 824's Mackie has. I would love to see Klipsch come out with a comparable setup. I agree that if they put out a quality product people will buy them.
  3. I saw the back and sides of a klipsch cabinet behind the screen of a local theatre today and it looked close to what I remember the Cornwall size to be. Did Klipsch make a " industrial Cornwall" ? I own industrial LaScala's and had a pair of industrial Heresy's- KP- 301?? but never came accross a Cornwall version. I would loved to see the front of it but it was caulked to the screen wall.
  4. Anyone familiar with this amp? How does it mate with the Klipsch LaScala and Heresy? I kinda got an itch... Thanks!
  5. I bought a Stereo- link ( http://www.stereo-link.com ) this last week. It is a D/ A converter that goes between your computer and stereo. It works great! I had tried playing my mp3's with just a cable betwen my sound card and my pre amp- it sounded horrible. I came upon the Stereo- link web site quite a while back and recently they were selling the units for $129.00 vs. the normal $199.00 price. I bought one, hooked it up and though it has not made my mp3's sound like MoFi recordings, it has made a great improvement in the sound quality of mp3's and streaming audio. Anyone looking for a way to get good sound to your stereo via computer here is one solution.
  6. Klewless- Mill City was the nickname for Minneapolis years ago. It was called that due to all the flour mills. I am in Minneapolis- on the right side of the river!
  7. John, Where can we see a picture of this cabinet? I ask because I was at a old movie theatre a few weeks back and saw a couple sub cabinets, one which said " National " on it. They where both folded horn designs and both very old. One was ( I think ) a " W " shaped horn. I could have taken them, but they were so large and I had no where to put them.
  8. I would like to do the Mortite wrap this weekend. Is anyone familiar with the way of getting to the sqwaker in a split B cabinet? ( I think the driver is mounted from behind the front baffle ) This is the version with seperate cabinet for the sqwaker and tweeter. Any help would be appreciated!
  9. I believe I read that P. W. K. made the remark that he thought the best mid/ high setup was made by Altec ( honest! ). I cant remember were I read it, being years ago, I am sure it was an interview in some audio mag.
  10. I've been searching through my collection of Positive Feedback issues recently looking for Gizmo's ( ? ) article on exactly this topic. I seem to remember the Toback name from the article. Something I always wanted to try but never got around to. If I find it I will give that receipe for DYI cables.
  11. If your a under paid rube like me it's hard to afford Audio Advisor. Go to www.markertek.com for better prices on acoustical dampening. I also recommend checking out a book on acoustics to be sure where placement of such dampening material would be best. I think the one I have is called The Master Hand Book of Acoustics. It has some great ideas for the DYI types. I always thought the kid in high school ( back in the '70's ) was on to something with egg cartons covering his ceiling! The room was just as dead as any anachioc chamber found! Driving his old Marantz gear.
  12. I have a set of pro split "B" LaScala's. Yep, black fiberglass with aluminum edge-ing. they are rated at 200 watts. The sqwaker/ tweeter cabinet is triangular in shape. I think maybe there are other pro versions, but this is what I have. I got these for $500.00 for the pair years ago ( in mint condition ). I had to take $$ out of my wife's and my nest egg to buy them and when I pulled up with them in the back of my truck she almost died at how "ugly" they were! I powered them with a little modified ( VanAlstine) Dynaco ST 120. I think it was the first time in my life I heard a true sound stage.
  13. Thanks Al! Were would the web page be to check it out? As for the soldering iron- swing- hell I can melt holes in tabletops! The first day on a new job I impressed everyone by burning a hole in the soldering iron cord and blew a breaker! Boy did that feel good! And most recently a soldering iron was sitting around ( not in use ) and I some how managed to cut the cord with a bolt cutter! Still am having a hard time with that one.
  14. Off to the squawkers I go! ( is there another speaker company that uses the word sqawker? ). What are the alternatives for products to wrap the squawkers with? Dynamat the best bang for the buck? What about a heavy putty like plumbers putty? Thanks for all the help!
  15. Any ideas on what would be the best "bang for the buck" modification to do on LaScalas? $$'s are few but I want to start "upgrading" mine. Thanks!
  16. Klewless- I am interested in the 2 stereo shops off of I394. I am aware of Great Plains- They seem good, but with Audio Perfection 1/2 mile from my house, I go there for high end thrills. Audio King has lost me as a customer due to quantity vs. quality mindset. Remember when they where on France- With all the great old equipment they carried! Now I can't distinguish Audio King from Best Buy ( with the exception that they offer you a soda if you look like a potential buyer! ). I do agree that Toddvj should keep his eyes glued to the Sunday paper want ads. I bought a perfect pair of pro lascala split "b" s for $500.00!
  17. Being the owner of a pair of Pro LaScala's and a pair of Heresy's to prove that I am a Klipsch believer, It is sad to say that the worst SOUND I have heard was a pair of Heresy's powered by a Carver " The Reciever" back in the mid eighties. When I brought that peice of electronics marvel home I thought this is going to sound great! What a mistake! It sounded like running your fingernails down a chalk board! Needless to say " The Reciever" was returned within hours. Worst all time speaker- Altec A-7. Bar none.
