  1. Just started looking for these myself. Seems anti static would be the key feature. There are a number available on Amazon, does anyone have any experience here?

I am wondering myself since the Nagaoka´s and the MFSL are both 26€ for 50 of them. You can get much cheaper but I was wondering if in fact these name brands are in fact better.

  2. Rumors is the subject of a book "Making Rumors" by Ken Callet. For another real glimpse inside the control room I suggest Ken Scott's "Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust." His narrative traces the evolution of record making from the early days of multitrack through to the rock odysseys of the 70s.

    Thanks for the tip!!

  3. I saw an interesting docu on the making of Fleetwood Mac - Rumour. They said during the mixing they noticed at the end that something was missing from the high end and the drums sounded dead and realized this came from the degeneration of the master tapes since they heard them so often. They decided to redo all of the drum parts to bring the livelyness back into the songs. A guy sat there with headphones and a vso with the "new" drums on one ear and "old" drums other had to manually adjust the speed so both were in takt. That guy was a maestro in analog engineering in my book.

Here a link to part one

Here is where the speak about the drums, starts at around 2:50

Very interesting docu and I never knew there was so much going on with them during this album.

  5. Just bought this rig at a local estate sale. 1983 K-horns in gorgeous oiled walnut, and the Rotel set-up from the mid-1990s - preamp, amp, cdp, cassette deck, and a Magnum Dynalab tuner, hooked up with the Audioquest interconnects and Esoteric Ultra speaker cables. $1300.

Someone please call the police, he just stole that ^^

  6. Thanks for all the replys.

Fan noise would not bother me much, this would be behind a wall and not really seen just heard. I guess I am just thinking the F3´s would get better with more power. Living on a champaigne taste with beer budget I am looking for a good amp < 500€ and unfortunately only the pro´s have this bang for the buck. OTOH pro amps are being used for gigs and mixing so they can´t be that bad [:D]

Now I am running them on a Yamaha RX-V1800 and they sound really good but only when you give them a little more juice. I know the KEF´s I had improved greatly at lower volumes when I got more power for them, they had a simular sensitivity of 92dB.

I will have to let this settle some more and keep my eye out for a good deal.

  7. I am not a religious man but I would say yes.

6 years ago Wife and I were on the way to visit my Mom in the states. She was feeling a little queasy but we thought since it was so early and we did not wake up well. As we were waiting for the flight She turned white and said I am not feeling good. So we decided to go and get her blood pressure checked. On the way to the drug store she looked at me with big eyes and said "Schatzie" (Darling) and would have landed on her face if I did not catch her. Within seconds she turned blue and I screamed for help.

Seconds later (although it felt like minutes) 2 guards 20 feet away radioed for help, 2 firemen who where checking the fire alarms out of schedule came racing with a portable ICD unit and 30 seconds after that a Doctor on her way on vacation to Mexico and a RN were standing there and started CPR. I was a soldier and trained but could not do anything except hold her hand and beg her not to leave me. It took 5 minutes for the paramedics to get there which are stationed at the airport where the fight for her life started. Her heart had spasms and beat over 300/m and all of the blood was pumped out and none in.

3 Days of induced coma an implanted ICD and rehab later I still have her.

30 minutes later we would have been on the plane to US and I would have lost her. When everyone did not react as fast as they did I would have lost her or at least brain damage.

One thing we are sad about is we never found out who the Doctor or Nurse were to thank them.

I never play the lotto any more, all of my luck was spent on that day and I am grateful for it.

  8. I am pulling this back up to ask if anyone has tried the Peavy? I am thinking about getting a pro amp since a 300W "normal" amp is to expensive at the moment.

I am thinking either QSC GX3, Crown Xls 1500 or the Peavy IPR 1600. They float between 280 to 440€ here and I may be able to scrape enought for one of those. It would be pushing F3´s, I think they need a little more power than they are getting now.

  9. I use the double flange and they are very comfortable with great sound. You know when you have them right since just about all outside noise is drown out and, at least for me, when I hum it sounds as if it is coming out of my head instead of through my ears.

Some days they are a little bit uncomfortable at first but they do adjust and are good after about 5 minutes. Normally I do not evenn feel them however.
