  1. That is a "modern" amp. I'm only familiar with the older stuff. I have owned several pieces of Marantz equipment, and it has all been top notch. For info on pre 80 Macintosh equipment this is a good site: (Won't let me paste), but if you Google-Classic Audio, it will come up. I am using a 1978 Marantz 2252B to drive two pair of Cornwalls. I don't have anything to compare it with, but in my humble opinion - sweet!
  2. Does anyone have the specs for the Herseys? I don't know if the year makes any difference, but there are two sets, one 160Y880 - 892, and the other 71S794 - 795. I haven't taken the backs off, but would the components be different? Thanks for all replys and help!!
  3. I assume you are asking Preston Tom. I don't know the answer to that question.
  4. Thanks for sharing. Certainly worth the read!
  5. Very nice!! I have a pair of Cornwalls, and I almost bought a pair of Lascalas this spring. How do you compare the sound?
  6. Cornwall I's vs Cornwall II's? I own C-I's, and am deciding whether to go look at a pair of II's (8615XXX) is the serial # I was given. If I am correct, that would be made in 1986 and a C-II. My questions are: Which is the better speaker and why? Or are they basically the same except one is sealed and has newer guts? Thanks for your help!
  7. Considering a pair of Cornwall IIs near me. They were made somewhere around 1990 according to the owner. I have not seen, so I can't comment. Serial # is 8615XXX. That leads me to believe they were made in 1986. If so, does that make them a C II? My questions are, what are the differences between the two? Should I wait for a pair of C I's to become available? Thanks for your help!
  8. Crazy! What they spend on speakers is an inverse relationship to their weenie size!
  9. How about Palladiums? Anyone who pays $15,000 for a pair of speakers needs serious help!
  10. Thanks. Tomorrow I'll hook it with a nut and let you know how it works out. I'm hoping that the terminal being messed up is the problem with the drivers.
  11. Looking good. The cabs seem pretty clean. You might want to think of a wash (mineral spirits with a little colored oil based paint). Raises the grain, and is quick. I've got some I starting on soon, where the veneer is gone in some places, and comming loose in others. Don't have any choice but to veneer. Good luck and keep the pics comming!
  12. Sorry for the confusion. The screw is the same length as the other one (thus the correct length), and the threads are ok. There seems to be something in the hole which doesn't allow the screw to be screwed in all the way. I will get new ones from you after I finish the cabinets. However, in the mean time to test the drivers, can the wire be attached to the post above it (see original picture-blue question)? Thanks
  13. Hi Bob. This is the Herseys that I emailed you on regarding testing components and replacing woofers. I was thinking that maybe one of the problems was the terminal, which I guess would be easy enough to replace, but in the mean time I want to test the drivers. In addition, the two screws in there don't appear to be but about 3/8, maybe a 1/2, where as the ones in your photo appear much longer. Thanks
  14. Hello. On an older Hersey, problem with attaching speaker wire. As noted in the picture (red), screw doesn't go in all the way. What would cause that? Second, can you attach the wire to the threaded post above the screw - without any adverse effects? Thanks
  15. Greg R. sent me this URL showing what must be a record price for Herseys!! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230155546695&rd=1

  17. You can buy a used integrated stereo amp, like a Technics SA-200 for $25 to $35 on ebay, and a pair of JBL 2500s - $20 to $30 (add shipping for both). Get a Y cable from Radio Shack for less than $10 (runs from the computer to the amp). Whole deal should be less than $100, and I can assure you will have great sound. I am using that setup on my desktop. I cannot listen at over 1/4 volumn. Don't sell the little speaker short, as it has a nice sound. Just so the Klipsch purest won't get upset, I have 3 pairs of Herseys, but a pair won't fit where I have the computer.
  18. "I just sent this email to the seller: "I am/was willing to go to $2000, but you never answered my email regarding comming by an inspecting the speakers. Oh well, there will be others." I am interested in the response, as there is less than 3 hours to go.
  19. I was going to bid, but I emailed the seller two days ago regarding comming by to inspect either yesterday or today, and never received a reply. That plus all the post left here on the forum left me too scared to bid. I live in Daytona Beach, so Orlando is only an hour away. No shipping! I am going to email the winning bidder and see how the deal worked out, and will post what I find out. Assuming the speakers were legit, and everything worked correctly, what would they be worth?
  20. Don't you want to visit Orlando, "The Vacation Capital of the World"? You can drop off the speakers and have $900 to spend on the Mouse!
  21. Perhaps a mistake, perhaps not. I for one think the Cornwall is better than the Cornwall III. I didn't see the ones your were talking about, so I don't know.
  22. That would be a fair price, as they look nice. As the Texan said, I would be all over them except for shipping.
