  1. Thank you for your input. It looks like RS is the concensus for my set up. I will pick up a pair of RS-7s Hearing about your set-ups really helps. I know this topic has been beaten to death, but what are you guys using for speaker wire to run to the rears.
  2. Hi guys, I am going to a 7.1 DD HD and DTS HD MA setup in a shallow depth room with the sofa 12" from the rear wall. I would love to use a third pair of rf-5's but I think it would look awkward having the sofa pulled out in the middle of the room. I have seen a few posts that have mentioned the use bipole/dipole for the rear surrounds, however it seems that RS7 or RS3 would be best visually if they were mounted to the wall. I am currently running an RC-7 (maple center) RF-5 (maple front) and RF-5 (maple rears) I just looked up THX recommendations at http://www.thx.com/home/setup/speakers/dolby.html and it states to use direct radiating speakers for the rear surrounds, but my room is not that big. What would you guys suggest keeping in mind the room is not deep. Also, is it true about the dipoles/bipoles as rear surrounds RF-5, RB-5, RB-3, RS-7 or RS-3 If I go with RF or RB I would stick with maple. I would love to see some of your setups for rear surrounds! Thanks in advance!
  3. I think the ultras may be the way to go, but the receiver swap to a pre-pro and amps will certainly make a difference. I know that rotel and outlaw sound excellent. Does anyone have experience with running McIntosh with the reference series klipsch?
  4. Please excuse my vulture-ism If you do upgrade, I would be interested in the rf-7's if they are in maple. I have family in MI who could pick them up too. I would end up with rf-5's for the rears, and the rear surrounds, and the rc7 and rf-7s up front.
  5. Welcome! I don't think you can go wrong with either of the rotel amps. The 1095 is a beast. I use the 1066 and it was a incredible upgrade to the sound. More separation, clarity, etc.
  6. I would suggest staying with the same series speakers otherwise your system will sound unbalanced. Stay with the s series instead of the rsx unless you plan to upgrade all of the speakers to the rsx series, which may not be a bad idea. In wall 3's may work best for keeping the better half happy; just consider the sound in the adjoining room that you are sharing that wall with.
  7. You may want to check ebay for brand new rf-35 home theater packages. If I remember correctly this set is under $2k delivered including the sub. Just make sure that you also budget about 5-10% of your speaker/receiver budget for quality cables.
  8. Welcome to the board! I have to agree with matrixdweller. You will probably end up buying another receiver within a year if you don't go with something like the 605 or better with dolby hd and hdmi 1.3. Once you start with that, then buy the best klipsch speakers you can afford. If you skip the sub (which can be very expensive for a good one and well worth the extra money vs. a cheap sony etc.) you may want to consider a pair of floor standing speakers instead of bookshelf in order to get that low end grunt. You may want to get a pair or two of rf-3s if you are on a tight budget and want a system that you won't have to upgrade constantly.
  9. I agree with cbanoles. Hard to beat the features of the onkyo 605, 705, or 805.
  10. I put my rc-7 on the top of my sony 57" It doesn't look to bad but just make sure it doesn't slide off.
  11. My two cents, If space is a serious consideration, especially for a 7.1 system, the cinema 8 system would be a logical choice (cinema 10 if you don't mind the larger speakers). You would just have to purchase 2 additional rsx4's or rsx5s. Because the system comes with the sub, you will not be losing much of the low end. Take a look at the other sonic matched theater packages from klipsch like the rf82 system if that fits your room and taste. As for the receiver, may I suggest the onkyo 605, 705, or 805 instead. These will give you dts-hd, and dd-hd running hdmi 1.3. If you combine one of these units with something like a ps3 or other hdmi 1.3 player using good quality wires and speaker cables, you should have a great, near invisible system that would be hard pressed to to beat by anything in that type of price range. The rsx line is great for someone (or someone's wife) that does not want a room full of big boxes and still wants the reference quality horns. I use a rc-7 and there is no doubt that it is a monster sized speaker, but I enjoy the "big" speakers immensely. The lady of the house has warmed up to the set up slowly... Even though the rc-7 is great the drivers do not match the rf-35 nearly as well as the rc-35, which effects your soundstage... Hope this help
  12. Thank you for for the welcome, David. I agree that the rf-7s are incredible. Would they be the best fit even though they are not exacly the same as the rf-5s. The only reason that I had not widened my search to the rf-7s was because of the sensitivity of 102db. If I were to use the rf-5s as the rears with a sensitivity of 99db, would I be required to use a receiver/ preamp that would allow equalization such as audyssey? I understand that my receiver is not up to snuff to be using with my speakers, but I hope to someday upgrade to a rotel, classe, krell,(or maybe even the new onkyo 605 (hdmi 1.3 w/ dts hd)) etc that may or may not have an equalization program. Am I on the right track with amplification? In addition I have not headed in to the realm of speaker wire and I am curious to know if many are using bi-wire such as monster ,etc? Your thoughts please. Noah
  13. I was actually in Knoxville that week visiting family and was going to pick them up. I hope you enjoy them as much as I was going to. Be safe over there and if you ever decide to sell them, please let me know.
  14. Hi everyone. Any thoughts on the perfect setup for my rear speaker? I am using rc-7 maple center, rf-5 maple for the mains, and cheap sonys temporarily for the rear in a 5.1 setup. I have considered the rf-3 for the rears, but I prefer something matched to the fronts. I would like to get the opions of you guys who may know more than I. I missed a chance at some rb-5 in maple a couple weeks ago but I prefer the full range sound of the rf-5s or rf-7, plus no stands needed and the wife is now ok with the idea of big rear speakers. Anyone out there in maple for sale? I would prefer it to be in florida because I can pick up but that is not a requirement, just works better on a tight budget.
  15. I am interested in the rf-5s and the rs3s. How much will shipping cost to 33418 If the rf-5s are not available anymore, I am interested in rf-5s in maple and rs-7s if anyone else has any.
