  1. It was the amp. It just went poof when I plugged it in. Dang warranty is out by one year. Klispch can't replace it until ($190) DECEMBER! Definitely last one (Klipsch) I'll buy.
  2. Hi, I have a (until today) GREAT little RPW10. I unplugged it as always when I left town. When I returned today and powered it up it would not power up. Blown fuse. Any fuse I place into the unit blows immediately. Any clues before.when I take it in for repairs? as always, thanks so much for any advice.
  3. hey Bruno- I have a Klipsch rw10D sub coupled with Monitor Audio Silver R6 in the front and my old Klipsch KG3.2 as surrounds. The sub really is only there for ultra low & punch as the rs6 are really smooth & musical down to 40hz. I love the Rf82 but the RS6 is as musical a speaker as I have ever heard foir less than a grand. I made the purchase on a great deal and could not be happier. I am saving up for rfx surrounds now. As for cheap but tasty pre/pro - amp - receiver gear you simply can't beat Outlaw for their price/performance. http://www.outlawaudio.com/ Not sure what you are looking for in feature set but they a great deal on their (soon to be discontinued) 990 pre/pro right now. I have older 950 pre/pro & 750 amp. Again i could not be happier (I do not have a room for 7.1) for the $$. IU have not heard them but their LCR speakers also have great reviews. although, you rally can't go wrong with the RF series either.
  4. I'm partial to hearing female vox as they can be really colored by systems/speakers midrange. Bonnie Raitt's "nick of Time is good, Kate Bush, Allison Krause, Emmylou Harris ... Tool's recordings, especially the song Anemia from that CD has a LOT of complex bass/kick drum work that can really tax your bottom end for clarity, response, and tone. Listen to it LOUD :-) Their latest CD 10,000 Days' track "Vicarious" (at the end) taxes the bottom as well. Peter Gabriel's "So" is just an amazing sounding record- so good that it sounds pretty good on anything, but if you are familiar with it you can really test details like reverb decay, separation, and dynamics. Telarc's recordings are also great - I LOVE the series they did with Fred Fennel (and especially the Holst Suite in E flat with "the bass drum heard round the world"!). Awesome "classical" recordings with a ton of dynamics. Sting's Ten Summoner's Tales is an excellent recording as is Lyle Lovette's I Love Everybody. His voice is just so colorful- with a great recording that details each instrument "behind" his vocal. of course re-mastered Aja and Donald Fagen's "The Nightfly" are astounding and a great way to judge depth and separation King's X's "dogman" has about as much very bottom end as I have ever heard on a pop recording. I don't know how they got that much low frequency compressed & on there. It will push your sub for sure. Somebody already mentioned the Stereophile discs - they are superb.
  5. http://www.audioholics.com/news/industry-news/blue-jeans-strikes-back interesting especially this paragraph: After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1985, I spent nineteen years in litigation practice, with a focus upon federal litigation involving large damages and complex issues. My first seven years were spent primarily on the defense side, where I developed an intense frustration with insurance carriers who would settle meritless claims for nuisance value when the better long-term view would have been to fight against vexatious litigation as a matter of principle. In plaintiffs' practice, likewise, I was always a strong advocate of standing upon principle and taking cases all the way to judgment, even when substantial offers of settlement were on the table. I am "uncompromising" in the most literal sense of the word. If Monster Cable proceeds with litigation against me I will pursue the same merits-driven approach; I do not compromise with bullies and I would rather spend fifty thousand dollars on defense than give you a dollar of unmerited settlement funds. As for signing a licensing agreement for intellectual property which I have not infringed: that will not happen, under any circumstances, whether it makes economic sense or not. good for them!

    RF-82

Well I got the RS 6's. And man they are killer. I can't compare them to the RF 82's which may sound excellent as well, but these things sound wonderful. The mid range is superb and hI barely need the RW10D, and would not really miss it for music. The KG 3.2 are now my surrounds (but really bad WAF) and the room itself has issues but the sound of good recordings in stereo, and music DVD (this week it was Porcupine Tree "Arriving Somewhere" and Allman Bros live at the beacon Theatre) sound terrific. Not to laud other brands so loudly here but I did want to say how good these speakers sound.

OK the RS6s came today (new in box- 700 bucks, all shipping etc. included). Need to get some better cable, bi-wire, & burn them in. Will report back. Anticipation ...

    RF-82

thank you all so much for the advice! Great group. I think however in the end I am going to buy a pair of Monitor Audio RS6 int eh box new for a really good deal. I heard these once at a friend's neighbor's a few years ago and I was blown away by the detail. I'll let you know how that turns out. Thanks again!!

    RF-82

i guess I should state that any "new" room will be more square as opposed to bigger. I would expect a 14 X 14 more or less. I have no probs with volume, 165 watts and a Klipsch "anything" should be good. I also have an opportunity for a pair of Monitor Audio rs6 in box. And the WAF - Decisions decisions....

    RF-82

at this point in time a very small room- 10 X 18 with open ends (e.g. stairway & opening to dinning room on one end & kitchen on other) which makes it effectively 10 X 30 with 12' vaulted ceiling. Now I expect this to get bigger (e.g. a house move) in the next year or two. FWIW, the RW 10D is barely running 1/2 power now in the room with the kg3.2s. thanks

    RF-82

Hi all- VERY late to this thread but I have comparison question. I am looking at an RF-35, and RF 82, and RF-7 and even a pair of RF-62. There are 2 dealers & a 2nd hand guy. I will be driving these with Outlaw 950 pre/pro and Outlaw 750 amp coupled with an RW10D sub. I may add the KG 3.2s as surrounds in the future but for now in the small room, 2.1 is what I am listening to- and 90% music. I love how clean and neutral the Outlaw gear is for the $$. I wanted to know which of the speakers above would you consider most neutral and a better match for the sub? I listen mostly to hard rock/metal but a considerable amount of acoustic, classical and a little jazz. With 165 watts per/ch and the sensitivity of these speakers all seem to be a offering plenty of volume- heck the KG 3.2 are plenty loud right now! I am after more clear mid range/low mid and presence (not harshness) in the upper register. Before I beg to take any of these puppies home to hear I wanted to get some informed opinions and thanks so much for any advice!
  12. ended up getting a slightly used Outlaw 950 to replace the Marantz. So far I like the sound- very neutral. My only quibble is with the Vid switching- got some noise in the composite connection for the cable box- working on that.
