  1. LaScalas are all original. Sound tremendous. Everything works perfectly. Sequential serial numbers. Bought from another forum member who picked up K-horns. Prefer to keep them in the forum. I just moved to a smaller house with no where to put LaScalas. Local pick up in zip code 28027 near Charlotte, NC. There are two small dings on one, shown in the photos. The ding on the front of one is really not conspicuous, but one of the photos shows it in extreme close-up just to be clear about it. The other is at the bottom rear. $700 firm for the pair, which is less than I have in them. I also have: - a Nosvalves refurbed Scott LK 72 tube amp with Telefunkens in the preamp section, sweet sound; - two gorgeous Choruses in oiled walnut that are nearly mint; - two nearly mint beautiful birch Heresys with only a few hairline scratches in the clear lacquer finish that can be easily fixed; and - B&K high end SS preamp and matching power amp.
  2. Guys, thanks for the suggestions. I talked with Craig, did what he said and determined two new output tubes had failed. I put two of the old ones in and everything is great now. I had ordered the new output tubes when a no-name one failed. The ebay seller I bought the tubes from is replacing them, but I plan to keep what I have in place for now. The two olds ones back in are HH Scott original tubes.
  3. There is no change by moving the input selector. Only the right channel is affected. The continuous growl has stopped, except for the moment when I turn off the amp. I tried resetting the bias and that right channel is very erratic. There is no way to set the bias for that channel. The left is fine. One of the new 7591 tubes is pulsating, so I tried replacing it with one of the old ones, but nothing changed. The sound out of the right channel is very muffled, like the bias was off, but as I said, it cannot be adjusted.
  4. My LK-72 recently got a new output tube, new 7591s and four tested Fisher Telefunkens. It was sounding great. I turned it on tonight and with the volume at 0, as soon as it warmed up, it sounded like something from the Exorcist. It was a fairly loud electronic growl. The only thing I took time to do was try switching the input selector, but that did nothing. Craig rebuilt the amp a couple of years ago. I know audio in general pretty well, but have very limited technical electronics knowledge. This development is out of the blue. Any ideas?
  5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOB!!! Yours is just a day after my firstborn's some 32 years ago.
  6. There was no smoke, no arcing and the filament is not lighting up.
  7. Just installed new 7591 output tubes and while I was adjusting the bias, the amp made a low, but audible hum (amp itself, not through speakers). From the FM tuner, I had sound before that and before starting to check the bias, but after the hum, sound was gone. (I had turned off the tuner before testing the bias.) When I tried to adjust the bias voltage, it would not change.
  8. Thanks for the suggestion, Craig. I have four matched JJ 7591s in transit from a respected ebay seller. I am still thinking about the Telefunken 12AX7s. After I put in the 7591s I'll see how the Scott sounds. By the way, I recently had to replace the fuse. Is that a red flag?
  9. I have a Scott LK-72 refurbished by Craig Otsby that I have been using for a couple of years. He suggested replacing the 12AX7s with Telefunkens to get rid of a little bit of persistent phono circuit noise. I was checking online for replacements. Does anyone have experience with Radio Tube Supply? I also need to check out all the tubes now, because there is distortion and I can't adjust the bias in one channel.
  10. Thanks for all the excellent input. I scored a Scott LK 72 in original condition with 7591s that is on its way to Craig. I can't wait!!
  11. Since the 70s I have had Heresys and have added others along the way, including Choruses. I am about to add La Scalas to the family, but have not made the jump to tubes. This is the time to do it. The 222, or 299 Scotts seem to be the best bet for me. 1. What are opinions on 222 versus 299 with La Scalas? (I know there are different models within each series, A, B, C, etc.) 2. Does anyone know about a nice amp for sale, preferably already refurbed? Thanks.
  12. In the acoustic realm, check out Tommy Emmanuel.
  13. Wuzzer, how difficult was the upgrade to titanium diaphragms? You did that on your Forte IIs, right?
  14. Happy I am that I just picked up a pair of Forte IIs in generally nice condition in oiled oak. They are consecutive serial numbers 005393308 and 005393309. From browsing other posts, I gathered that this means they were manufactured on the fifth day of 1993. Would that be correct? Anyway, the repairs needed are for a one inch cut in one passive radiator and a dinged top front corner. I have seen advice on glueing cigarette papers on the inside of the passive to make that repair, or using a bead of silicone. It is just a slit, not really a tear. The slit is about a 1/16 of an inch wide. The corner ding chipped off a roughly 1/2 inch wide triangle of top veneer, but it damaged the side and front slightly, too. Any suggestions on repairing that? One binding post is broken off, too. A previous owner soldered a piece of wire to the stub of the post and used a wire nut to attach the speaker cable. I would appreciate suggestions on repairing the binding post, as well. Thanks in advance.
