  1. Jim Salk makes some amazing speakers. I toured his shop last year and demo'd his latest products. A buddy of mine has the soundscape 8's and they're top notch!

Anyhooo...here's my first stab at a home theater: (Klipsch KLF-30's, C-7, KSP-S6's, & THTLP's) I still need to drop a ceiling and lights etc.

  2. I didn't remove the rear panel. I added corner round molding in all 12 corners and 3x1 cross braces through the woofer openings.

The speakers in the last picture are Tyler Acoutis Linbrook signature series.

    I kept the KLF-30, C-7, & KSP-S6's/B&W asw-850 15" sub for my 5.1 home theater and updated my

    2 channel system to:

Home theater PC with 2T of lossless ripped cd's and high def,

Bolder Cable modded EE Minimax tubed DAC,

    Modwright tubed pre-amp,

    Bryston 7B-ST monoblock amps, &

Tyler Acoustic Linbrook Signature system. (with M&K MX-5000-mkii sub crossed over at 50hz although it really doesn't need it! LOL)

  3. Bracing the cabinet and glueing the joints was a great idea because of the whole glue/mdf debacle. However, I would frown on the dampening of the horns and the polyfill. Time/money would be better spent on treating the room and experimenting with placement. KLF-30's are placement sensitive as are most Klipsch.

They engineered your speakers a certain way. Altering that engineering most likely will have a placebo effect. Altering your listening room will yield much better results.

I have already started 2 large panels and bass traps for the front wall. The sides are going to be tricky due to the placement of the fireplace on one wall and a 8 x 4 foot mirror on the other. I'm in 100% agreement that the room treatment yields more benefits than the speaker tweaks!

  4. To me the bass seemed a bit loose, somewhat boomy before the bracing. Now it is tighter/punchier but that could be the polyfill.

The original cabinets did NOT have any internal bracing. I used 1/2" quarter round for all 12 inside corners and 2.5" x 3/4" braces in the 3 areas shown.

    It is fun project nontheless.

I also had DeanG redo the cross overs and added dynamat to the horns that seemed to tame the highs and open up the sound stage.

  5. I didn't see any PS3 in the photo.

The PS3 is sitting above the Rotel processor. I'm not worried about having it sit out since I purchased the blue tooth remote. All my music/movies are loaded on my PC in the other room and I use a wireless connection to the PS3.

  6. Picky,

I work in Allen Park and would like to come over Friday after work around 5:30ish. If it's alright with you, I have another buddy who may be interested as well. He has a 5.1 RF-7 setup and would love to here a tube amp config.

Please let me know if it's cool to swing by, thanks!

    Ken

  7. Hey CS,

I have a Velodyne cht-12 (12" 400 watt powered sub) that would go well with your setup. Its adjustable volume and crossover allows you to tweek it to perfection. I live in Canton (I assume you live in the Detroit area) and you can swing by to listen to it. Its in near mint shape and I'll sell it to ya for $200.00 (I paid around $4xx for it). I just purchased a pair of KLF-30's and KLF-C7 (4 12's & 2 8's) so I need a 15" powered sub.

  8. FYI

My last Mustang was full of SVT and other parts!

Cool! I've been lucky to have worked on the Lightning, Stage 3 Roush, Vanquish, CobraR, Ford GT(gt-40), Shelbygt500, KingSnake etc.(damn...some pretty nice rides over the last 11 years!)

My latest project is a 2010 SVT offroad F150...ssshhhhh hush hush!

  9. Run equal power in front. I had this same problem, I was using a Rotel rb991 (200x2) with a 100x5 receiver(receiver power to center/rears). C7 at 99db you would need 2 times the power to make the same sound as the klf 30's at 102db. Lucky I found a matching a Rotel rb993 (200x3), that now runs the front 3 and the 2 channel Rotel runs a pair of c7's in the rear. Mains are still at -6 to slow them down a bit. They will take over if you let them.

After checking the crossovers and gains, which all looked correct, I just need more power. Back to my original question...is there an amp for a single channel out there. Do I need a mono amp running off my center channel output from my denon? Should I buy a 2 channel amp that is bridgeable like a Rotel RB-850 50x2 or 150 bridged?
