I just sucked up my 11th load of leaves with my Cyclone rake. I think each load holds about 22 leaf bags worth of leaves. I've got 5 acres of land, so I have plenty of room to dump them.

I've run KT-120's in my ST-120 amp for several years without blowing a rectifier tube. I'm running a vintage Mullard GZ-33 rectifier tube. I also have some Mullard 5ar4 rectifier tubes that I've had good luck with. I've used the weber copper cap ss rectifiers with good luck also.
I have found that the new production Rectifier tubes do not last! I have blown a few new production rectifiers until someone tipped me on buying vintage rectifier tubes. Just my experience.

Something is not right, and its not your horn. My mid horns are huge, and they are tractrix, and I have them attenuated at -12 db. K-55 in a K-Horn are attenuated at -6 I believe, so 2" drivers should play a lot louder. I have a pair of Selenium D-405 mid drivers you can borrow to see if its the mid drivers causing your problem. They are 2" exit drivers, and weigh 20 lbs apiece.

Dave, I've still got that pair of Crites cast woofers laying around, plus I have that pair of DeanG crossovers I'm not using at this time. I'm so far behind on my build, it may take me all winter to get them done. Your welcome to come pick them up if you want to do some swapping. The crossovers are 400, 6000, so I don't know if they would work right if you are crossing over at 500, but it would tell you right away how the mids and highs are acting.-kevin

i have my K-Horns tilted out from the corners quite a bit, and with the backs enclosed, they sound great

Dave, I have a pair of Crites cast woofers sitting around that I'm not using yet. they are for my K-Horn project that is a couple months from being finished. If you want to try them out to see if there is a difference, you're welcome to use them.

I retired a little over a year ago. I live in Michigan. So the first thing a Michigander thinks about upon retiring is moving to FLA, or somewhere else warm. But here is the thing: living in MI, you get 4 distinct seasons. Don't like the weather, wait a week.
We are now in a heat wave, mid ninety's all week long. In January I pray for this kind of weather. In July, I can't stand it. Too hot to do anything. Makes me rethink moving to FLA, and having to deal with this with no relief in sight.
But it's cold and snowy half the year! So what! If you are retired, you don't have to go out in it. Project time! Spin records, build speakers. Enjoy not having to mow the lawn every 5 days.
I guess I'm too used to having different seasons to do different things in. The weather aligns nicely with my ADHD, so I don't have to stay focused on one thing for too long!

Claude, did you ever see Catfish Hodge during your bar hopping days? Used to catch him in Mt. Clemens quite a bit. Also saw Neil Young at U of D, acoustic set around the same time.

Looks like the K-Horn is not all the way in the corner due to the radiator being in the way? If that's true, you will not get the right sound out of the speaker. The K-Horns MUST be tight in the corners for best results. Another option would be to enclose the backs, then you can get by without being tightly sealed in the corners. Those crossovers need to be rebuilt or replaced also.

I have used many,many tubes in the last 10 years. I am presently running vintage (expensive) Tung-Sol 6550 power tubes. Rectifier tube is a Mullard GZ-37, also expensive. I have RCA clear top 12AU7's on the 2 outside preamp tubes, and a Amperex Bugle Boy 12AU7 in the middle spot.
Here's what I have personally preferred over the years- The Gold Lion KT-88 reissues are great sounding tubes. The Tung-Sol KT-120's are good also. As far as the rectifier tube goes, don't use a cheap one, as it probably won't last. Use either a Mullard GZ-34 or even a Weber copper cap solid state. As far as the 3 small tubes, the one in the center will change the sound the most. The outer ones should be fairly closely matched to each other. I prefer Amperex tubes in the center, but have had good luck with vintage Tung-Sol as well. It's mostly up to your own preference. I have a 10 year old ST-120 that I built. I've added the autobias board last year. Without an autobias board, you manually set the bias for each power tube by turning little pots. Tubes change bias as they get older, so you have to periodically check and re-bias the tubes. The autobias board also offers protection if you have a runaway tube.
The biggest problem I've had with my amp is the power tube socket pin sleeves need to be retensioned periodically, especially if you change out power tubes, or do a lot of tube rolling. loose pins will wreak havoc on the bias settings.
