  1. pleased with movies as in it does a pretty good job of that. i'm not too concerned about playing excessively loud below 20-25 hz, but at the same time i believe this is where some of the impact i'm looking for is lacking? thus back to the ported sound i am more familiar with. i'll give it more of a workout next week when the rest of my emotiva gear arrives. i'll try more setup variations then. right now, the lowly ole onkyo 702 ain't cuttin' it!!
  2. Let me ask you.........does it seem like it is lacking "presence"?..........or that it isn't drawing attention to itself......or getting your attention for that matter? it is blending well. it just seems to lack some depth? i'll stop with the whining now and onto rockin' out...
  3. just for comparisons sake... after playing dark side of the moon on sacd, many of the lowest of the lows are just not present with the rsw. now with listening to the hotel california dvd audio, it sounds rather good.
  4. if only macgyver had a leatherman tool back in the day.......... []
  5. No, A sub that can play lower than you can hear is a definate plus for movies, it is what shakes the couch, hits you in the chest, rattless windows, and nocks *** off of the walls. Just because that sub plays that low, doesn't mean it will sound best, or even good with music. There is a reason that some subs comand $3,000, $5,000, or more, they usually do both well. My Velodyne HGS-18IIs can play louder, lower, and more accurately than the RSW-15, but they were twice the price new. What is important is that for X ammount of dollars, you may be compromising, and which of the two is more important to you. $1500 is not a high level sub... Roger by indepedent comparisons and others like craigsub list, $1500 can be considered a 'high level sub'. as with some other brands not to be mentioned(no, not klipsch!), you pay a lot for the namesake. that is why i specifically was asking a direct comparison of the rsw-15, ultra-13, and the epik. unless i had endless funds to purchase a 5k velodyne, i just can't see it. same with the jl even though they sound great. those to me are more of a 'trophy' sub with a known nameplate. so much bang for the buck and maybe a better sound quality altogether? it looks more and more like the svs can deliver all of the goods without comprimise. probably the same for much of the epik lineup, but they look a little less refined, but perform well. there is also a very long delay over at epik as in 5+ weeks to get what you want! i am pleased with the movie performance of the rsw, but still a little jaded about its capability to really get with it on music. i found the best room placement and played around with the settings which helped some. i will give it more time to grow on me. now i'm thinking more of keeping it and adding the ultra-13 in the near future.
  6. definitely a smokin deal for 450 stiffy! the more i listen, the more i start to like it. i only have a few places in the room to put it, so that may be a small limiting factor. it absolutely blends well with the 7's and looks the part too. i agree 100% with you swl about headroom is where it's at. my end plan was to always have 2 subs to compliment each other, but then i hear some horror stories about getting 2 placed in the right spots in the same room. right now, the sub is against the ajoining wall that the front mains are on(about 3 ft out from the corner). i'm going to try and put it on the same wall along side one of the front mains and see how that works.
  7. well, after getting a super nice black rsw-15 that is practically flawless, i'm not sure if i like it or not. i'm so used to the ported sound of subs i've always had. the passive radiator sounds a lot like a sealed sub, which basically it is. i'm going to try some different placements, but so far, i like the sound of the rw-12d i sold better!!? decisions, decisions...
  8. thanks for the input! i went ahead a got the rca connectors from blue jeans. very nice stuff, decent price, had it in two days in my mailbox from across the country. i will give monoprice a shot sometime. for what it's worth, i ordered a few speaker cables from impact acoustics that are 12 guage, silicone wrapped, with terminated plug ends that are super nice and for a steal of a price!!
  9. i am looking to see who has a bundled set or seperate 1.5-2 ft long rca audio connectors to go between my pre-pro and amp. best bang for the buck of course!
  10. that's what my duh factor tells me too! i've always wanted one so i guess i can always add something else later if needed.
  11. I am upgrading subs and have a chance to buy a new (un-used) rsw 15. the problem is that it is probably going to cost close to what i can buy the epik conquest or the SVS pb13 for. close as in a couple of hundred dollars. although i have heard the rsw up close and personal, i'm looking for some input as to how it compares to the epik conquest or the pb 13. i listen to mostly music on my system with an occassional movie or two. the size of the epik is not much of a concern. any input is much appreciated!!
  12. i ended up buying the soundtrack as well. i never do that! vedder just has a very listenable voice.
  13. Into the Wild directed by Sean Penn. Aside from his politics and such, not only is he an excellent actor, the direction of this movie is very moving. It is based on a true story of a new college grad's aspirations of making it to Alaska to live in the wild and essentially find out his purpose in life as he sees it. the film tends to jump back and forth from present to past and starts out a bit slow, but is filmed so well. A side bonus to the movie is that Eddie Vedder did the films soundtrack entirely himself. Very good tunes in this movie. If you give it a view, keep in mind that the later half of the film is where the best parts are. [Y]
  14. hehe, i like that myth too. i like it when people say they like the 'tightness' of a small woofer. either they really don't like the impact of a sufficient woofer, or they have not heard how a larger diameter woofer controlled by a really good amp can sound.
  15. please tell me someone got that...
  16. as i was in the old school pro-logic only receiver just a couple years ago, do yourself a huge favor and first get a reciever that does dolby digital/dts 5.1. even with my old dcm speakers, this was a huge leap in sound quality. i didn't know what i was missing.
  17. totally being an un-biased smarta$$ here, but.... have you been to a concert lately and seen the wall of bose acoustimass cube speakers!? [:|]
  18. That was Page in the photo I posted with the "Geritol" shirt. If you meant a close-up; here's one I found......it looks like there's a small splint on the little finger of his left hand. that pic isn't too bad. i was watching the show 'later with jules holland' when page and plant played his show. page must have been not too long out of the plastic surgeons knife! his face was swollen so bad that the cameras virtually ignored him. something i'm sure he is not used to!!
  19. the rw-12d can be had for 4-500 bucks. the one i have sounds very good. it plays well musically, and is really superb with movies. it is also a very nice looking piece. i usually end up turning it down for movies unless its just me watching. unless you have some serious power behind your 7's, it should hold its own just fine.
  20. how does the epic sound compared to the rsw-15? musically speaking of course. i was thinking you had one of those too.
  21. if someone can dig up a pic of page, he looks, well, like a plastic surgeons worst nightmare...
  22. felder also just recently released a book about all of his time with the eagles. he wrote the music for hotel california and others.
  23. dang, can i get some fries with those shakes!!! jb, is that you in either of those photos?
  24. same opinion here. i think the albert hall dvd is probably the pinacle of gilmour's twilight. for me, it is a real treat every time i watch that one. goose bumps for sure. ole dave's voice just never gets old! but then neither does the guitar playing. you can really tell all of the people involved in that band lineup are all enjoying themselve as well. hopefully he gets back to the states so i can see with my own two eyes.
  25. i picked up mine at a local indie record shop. i did see that best buy had them in their store. the audio only 5.1 is mixed very well.
