  1. Hmmm, I have a boner thinking about moaning Lisa so I'll have to go with moaning Lisa. In the end the decision is.....I can get a new RC-62 for $329 so I might just do that and add a pair of surrounds (52's or 62's) for the same price as the 64, get rid of my Pork's and then convince myself that I am done. Ya sure, until I see a Palladium in person.
  2. But there I am on Best Buy's Canada website and they have the Sub-12 on sale for $249.99 (Canadian dollars) regular price 493.99 so I ordered one on the spot cuz they only had 16 left. In your opinion will this be a step up from my current Polk psw-10 or would I have been better served to get a RPW-10 for $299.99? I think from my research I made a good decision, but having not heard the Sub-12 in person I am a little worried... Merry Christmas
  3. Thanks for the detailed advice. That sounds a little daunting and maybe you're right, I should just find a black one.
  4. Dude! Not nice. But in my haste a few years ago to replace my Blowse system I thought the Polks were pretty cool. And then one fine wintery day I stumbled upon the RF-82`s and fell in love and now I want it all. After replacing the RC-52 the plan is to is to get some RS-62 or 52`s and give the Polk`s to the kids to destroy.
  5. I emailed Klipsch to find out what they use. I'm not overly concerned about the grain because looking straight on you can't see it anyway, plus black tends to hide things well unless you're looking for something specific. Since it's a real wood veneer I should be able to sand the original finish off and it should work out ok as long as Klipsch lets me know what the correct finish is. I'm getting a boner thinking about having that beast in my house, yes!
  6. I have a line on a good deal for a cherry RC-64, but I want it black to match everything else. Anyone know if it can be done? Would I be stupid to even think about trying it?
  7. Saw him in Calgary. Great tunes, but Neil doesn't do much to engage the audience. I also wish he would have added 5 or 6 more songs and dropped one of the 2 (yawn) warm up bands that I've never heard of
  8. Try step mashing with a modified cooler. For boiling the wort whatever (stove, turkey fryer) you have is good enough until you learn more. Immersion chiller for the wort is the cheapest diy way to go. And kegs rule, hands down. One thing to clean, no bottling, no caps. They can be relatively portable with a smaller Co2 cylinder, but can easily get overcarbonated in the vehicle if your pressure is too high. There is a good kit out there for beginners too, but for the life of me I don't remember the name. It is an all wort product, 23 litres so no adding water, no sugar (yuck, what a way to wreck beer) just add hops and yeast. Wyeast liquid yeasts are very good. The key for me when I was starting out was a brewing book and joining a homebrew club. Just like any hobby there are homebrewers abound that want to share with newbies and they willing provide many samples. Should you happen to be in Canada these guys rule...http://www.paddockwood.com/index.php
  9. Been doing it for years. Hands down the easiest way is Anydvd and Clonedvd. Illegal or not when I spend money on a disc that the kids will render unusable in a week or two it is getting copied.
  10. Canada. The local dealer is London Drugs so you have to wait a good while for a decent sale price even though our dollars are at or close to par. [bs]
  11. That's a $1269 shove, hard to shove back for that amount of coin when the wife wants some boob work done!
  12. Hey Bill, The Oppo is good. I have tried some dvd's side by side with my old LG player and you can see a definite difference in clarity. But, if you stuck with a regular prog scan dvd you wouldn't really know there was any difference, you really have to have the 2 players with the same vid playing on separate inputs so you can flip back and forth to see the difference. As for the center, I went from a Bose cube to the RC52 so I've already had the pleasure of improvement. Right now I have to wait a year or two or the wife will stuff me into the next thing I buy since I've forked out a good wad in the last little while. Then I have also had my eye on a Paradigm center and the RC64...no I have to stop before I get kicked out of the house!
  13. I made the jump, well partial jump, to Klipsch over the last few weeks. After years of thinking I had a good sounding system from Blowse I am happy to say that I am past that now and realize that the thin weak sound was actually quite crappy. I was lucky and did manage to sell my Blowse system along with a Denon avr that doesn't even come close to toucing the Onkyo I have now. From what I have seen in these forums my current set up is probably not the most ideal set up, but it blows away anything I have ever had, and well, the deals I got on the sub and center were too good to pass up. I had Polk Monitor 50's as fronts for the past few months but moved these to the rear where they seem to be doing an admirable job matching with the RF-82's for tv and movies. I guess my next acquisition will have to be the RC-62, but at $450 more than what I got the RC-52 for that will have to wait a long time. Anyway, cheers and thanks for all of the useful info people are providing. I look forward to some brain picking to tweak my system.
