  1. thanks, but i already have an AVR, the 4002. i am looking for a dedicated 2 channel set up. i find my 4002 lousy when listening to music in stereo, especially at low volumes.
  2. Hi. Thanks for the reply. I was looking at Emotiva and looks very interesting. However i am located in Canada. There does not seem to be an authorized repair place locally so if something should go wrong i would have to ship it back at my cost. What do you think of these Cambridge Audio Azur 650A Marantz PM 8003 Marantz SR 4023 Harmon Kardon HK 3490 Onkyo A9555 NAD Integrated Amp C 355BEE
  3. Hi, Looking for a good match for my Klipsch KG 2.5 that i purchased in 1996. These gems deserve something good to drive them. What do you all suggest? Budget = 1000$ At this point i would say that i will want my set up to include subwoofer. thanks
  4. this is a great thread. i dont particularly like my KV2 so i figured that the KV3 would sound the same. its good to know from somone who has had both that there is a big difference in sound quality between the two. let us know how the KV4 sounds.
  5. Hi, I bought a KV-2 to match up with my KG 2.5's. It's just ok, didnt really blow me away. I then bought a C-2 to match up with a pair of B-3 that i had. I have to say that the C-2 is significantly better than the KV-2 in every way, the difference is very noticeable. I ran plenty of side-by-side tests. Having said that, i would go for a KV-4 if i were you.
  6. Setting your speakers from small to large and then listening to anything that doesn't have a .1 LFE track will generally disable the sub altogether, unless you have the subwoofer set to play along with your mains when you change your mains to Large in your receiver's setup menu. Set your sub's crossover as high as it will go on the sub itself, generally 120-150Hz. Let your receiver do the crossover setting so you aren't doubling up on it. Yes, when i listen to music in Stereo, i set my mains to Large and set my sub to play along with my mains(my Marantz has this option). My xover on my sub is set to 80Hz. So in this situation, my mains are full range which means that it will play all frequencies and my sub plays only frequencies of 80Hz and lower. So basically anything under 80Hz is being played by both my mains and sub simutaneously. Is this a bad thing? thanks for any comments
  7. my front bookshelf Klipsch B-3 speakers are on stands and are at ear level. my sub sits pretty much right next to my left front speaker and on the other side of the sub is a wall, about 3 inches away. space is tight in my apartment.
  8. my xover is set to 80 Hz and the phase is set to 0 degrees. the HPF on the Marantz is set to 80 therefore i set the LPF on the subwoofer to 80. However, sometimes when i listen in stereo, i change the setting for my Fronts from "small" to "large" and in that case the speakers are full range and the subwoofer remains set to 80. thanks
  9. Hi, I have an RPW10 hooked up to Marantz SR4002. I find that this sub is very good for home theatre, i am very pleased with it. However, when listening to music in stereo with the subwoofer, it just does not sound right. Its hard to explain but it is like the subwoofer cannot keep up with the fast beats of the music and the bass does not sound distict....like it cannot play every bass not clearly. Sounds messy or sloppy. Is it simply because this particular sub was designed for home theatre and not music? thanks M
  10. please dont put these things in my head, LOL. Now that my surround system is complete, i will focus my efforts on my 2 channel system.
  11. Bought a C-2 locally today. New in box paid $199 CAD. Tested it agianst my KV-2 and the C-2 is much, much better in every way. I was surprised given the small size and weight of the C-2. Watched a movie with B-3's connected as Fronts and i was pleased with the results. I will definatley keep it. I would like to thank all who participated in this thread to help me come to a solution to my situation. M
  12. I guess that you are right. Its just that i feel that i may be unhappy with the C-2, i feel that it is too small, i have a KV-2 right now that is roughly the same size as the C-2 and i am not happy with it. I assume that i would be happier with a C-3(impossible to find) , but then again i have never heard either of them so i may be wrong.
  13. At this moment i am unable to get the the B-3, C-2 or C-3 locally. However, i am able to get the F-1 or F-2 towers locally. So, if i use one of my B-3's as a center, which would be a better match for it, the F-1 or F-2? Both use a 6.5" woofer, same as the B-3 except that the F-2 has two woofers instead of one.
  14. So i tried something different. I unplugged my KV-2 and connected one of the B-3's as my center. Let me tell you that it blew my KV-2 out of the water. There is a big(better) difference. I enjoy it much, much more. The only problem is that the sound does not match my KG 2.5 fronts and the B-3 looks silly lying on its side. I am seriously considering buying another set of B-3's and making a trio of them my front stage and calling it a day. The only problem is that the center will have to be upright which looks kinda funny. What do you think? M
  15. Thanks for the reply Can you please tell me what vendors you saw that still have the C-3 in stock for i am having trouble finding any at all. thanks
  16. well i have a choice to make now. either i get a C-2 for my B-3's (seeing that the C-3 is hard to come by) or a KV3 for my KG 2.5's i wonder which center i would enjoy more, the C-2 or the KV3? any thoughts? depending which center i get, the other pair of bookshelves will go towards a 2 channel set up. so i guess that i should also ask what pair of bookshelves would better suit a 2 channel set up, the B-3's or the KG 2.5's? so many decisions to make.
  17. thanks for the reply. i am a little nervous about the C2, ill explain why. my B-3's have 6.5" and the C2 has 5.25". having said that, i have a pair of KG 2.5 (with 6.5") and i bought a KV-2 (which has 5.25") as its center. i am unhappy with the results, the KG's clearly overpowers the KV-2 center. i should have bought a KV-3 or better yet another KG 2.5. So i think that having the same woofer size all the way up front is a better way to go. I am just basing this from my own experience and i may be wrong in the case of this Synergy Line. Thanks
  18. Hi I have a Marantz SR 4002. I getting faint popping noises from my speakers in many different situations. The noise gets louder when the volume is increased. The noise is heard from all 5 speakers connected. Its actually more of a "poof" noise than a "pop". Even at high volume it is not loud or harsh enough to make me worry about damage to the speakers. It happens when: -i switch inputs via the "Input Selector" knob. it does not happen when i switch inputs via the remote.(it is random and not isolated to a specific input) -when watching a DVD, it happens when one preview ends and the next one begins. -when switching from speaker to speaker in "adjusting speaker level setting with test tone" (here too it is random and does not always happen for every speaker...sometimes it does and sometimes it does not) I bought the unit approx. 1 year ago. The first unit that i brought home did it real bad so i returned it. At the store we tested 2 more and they all did the same thing but not as loud as the initial one that i brought home. I figured that it was "normal" for this specific model. Ironically when we tested some 5002's at the store NONE of them did this. What can it be? Thanks
  19. Hello I recently purchased a pair of B-3 booksheves which i find to be pretty good considering their price. The Kipsch site suggests the C-2 as a center for these. I find it strange because wouldnt the C-3 be a better match seeing that it has 6.5" woofers as the B-3 does? Also, i would like to know what owners of the C-3 think about this center. Thanks
  20. I have 2 vintage Sony receivers from the early 80's. STR VX2 and STR VX 250 any thoughts on those?
  21. Thank you so much, this really clears it up for me. I do have one more question. My Fronts are KG 2.5's and they go as low as 50Hz. So if they are set to "Large" and frequencies lower than 50Hz are being sent to them, can this damage the speakers in any way? Thanks again for the help, its greatly appreciated.
  22. Hi I am looking for a Budget Receiver to power my new B-3's. I have found a Marantz SR 4021 that is in my price range. $400 or less. Does anybody have any other suggestions? Thanks
  23. I have a question concerning HPF/LPF. I have a Marantz SR 4002 (speakers are listed in my Sig) All my speakers are set to "small" except for my FRONT Left and Right. I also have a Sub connected. The crossover option in my settings is set to 80Hz. The manual is very vague when explaining HPF/LPF. From what i understand from the manual is that when a speaker is set to "small", it is automatically cut off at 100Hz. And the user can manually set his/her own crossover point only for the speakers that are set to "large" from the menu which allows us to choose from 80Hz to 180Hz. I find this odd because 80Hz is not very low if you have Large Floorstanding speakers. My bookshelf speakers are full range and can go as low as 50Hz. My sub is set to "mix" because i dont like having the sub on when i listen to music. The lowest that i can set the crossover on the AVR is 80Hz, does this mean that i am missing out on the lower frequencies (50Hz - 80Hz)that my speakers can indeed handle? If i have misunderstood the crossovers on this unit, please help me out. If i am wrong, then what are the lowest frequencies that are being sent to my speakers that are set to "large"? thanks S
  24. there is no contest, the KG 2.5's to me sound much better than the B-3's. the B-3's do sound very good for the price i paid, $199 for the pair new in the box, cant beat the bang for the buck. and maybe it is not fair to compare because the 2.5 is bigger and has 2 woofers compared to the B-3's single woofer. a friend came over to audition them with me and he could not get over how good the KG 2.5 sounded in general....he was really impressed over the quality and power coming from such a relatively small speaker. M
  25. My question has been answered, thanks to everyone for the help. Just to clear things up, my couch is up against the wall and the RS-42 will be up against the same wall, one to the left of me and one to the right of me, so yes, 90 degrees from me. After looking at some diagrams online i realize that rears only go 180 degrees behind which is not an option for me yet! thanks again M
