Was never much of a concert goer. Me and crowds, well, not so much my thing. But, I did catch Dorothy over in Missoula, at the Top Hat Lounge a few months ago. Dig their tunes. Was about 20 - 25' from the stage. Very cool. Figured I'd better in my 'older' years. They rocked.

Nice grab!! I just bought a pair of HII's and one had water damage on the bottom for $350. Cleaned up pretty well. If you're looking at refinishing the veneer, I presume they're veneered, it's only about 1/32" thick. I refinished the bottom of the one with damage and replaced a missing piece of veneer (how I know the thickness). Surprisingly, they will take a bit of sanding. Just be careful to not sand through.
Crites has some good upgrade goodies for these. I'd go with the tweet diaphragms, cap upgrade, and slanted risers.
Repaired bottom. Color matching was a bit of a chore, but fun. Haven't finished over the stain yet. Someone said they used 'tung oil'. I may just go for a 'tung oil' variant. Anyway, hope this gives you some ideas. Again, sweet find.

They look like the top hats from a pair of La Scala II's, but appear to be a bit narrow in height.

I had a Klipsch sub that started doing the same thing. It was an old SW-10. Ended up replacing it with a couple of UMax 15's. Don't know what caused it though. Have you tried disconnecting the source input to ensure that it's not the amps? I'd disconnect the outputs as well. I'd be interested to hear what others have to say that causes this. Hopefully, something simple.

I dig Lizzy Hale of Halestorm. I'm just slightly more partial to Dorothy Martin of Dorothy. Probably because I saw them live at a lounge in Missoula. Small venue, was about 20' from the stage, seriously loud, four dual 18 bins that hit you in your chest. Oh, and she's hot. Good stuff.

So, my interpretation of the 30's would be what I've experienced recently. Been a 5.5 user for over 20 years. Just purchased a set of Heresy II's. Would think that the 30's three way design would be like a blend of the two. Dual 10's, mid and high horns. Could be a great combination. Anyone had the chance to make this distinction?

I know what you mean. I'd love to keep them both, but I don't have the room in my listening space. Sure, I could store one or the other in another room, but what's the point? I'm not in to switching out mains all the time, etc. Audio reproduction is a disease. Once you get it, it's incurable. At least it's a happy disease, well, most of the time.

I'm in a sort of, similar, dilemma myself right now. I just bought a pair of Heresy II's. They sound good with the Crites diaphragm upgrades, but I've been listening to my KG 5.5's for over 20 years now. I don't have as nice of upstream gear, just using a Marantz AVR, but the sound between the two is definitely different. I say buy them, listen for a week, or two, then go back to the 83's and make your decision. It's what I'm going to do. One pair is going to go....

Just keep buying from Amazon, helps my state out, many thanks. Retail wouldn't be dying if people were against buying from the interweb. No retail outlet can carry as many choices as the internet, meet pricing structures. Alternatively, I use the web many times to find who has what I want, and then go buy it from them. Don't want to wait sometimes. Retail and the entrepreneurial enterprise is the backbone of this country. The more we let the oligopolies run rampant, the less there is for the baseline.
I don't mind paying taxes. I like nice roads, parks, a well equipped/trained Police force, Firefighters that can fight a volcano, schools that are clean, tooled up, and good teachers (whole other topic), and more. I don't see why ebay should be exempt from paying up. Yes, I realize that it ultimately it comes from the buyer, but it provides a second thought in the buyers mind. "The price isn't that much different, should I buy it from ebay, or go pick it up from Johnny's Sporting Goods?"
My freeform thoughts, limited as usual, I could keep going, but I've said too much, as usual. Skewer as you will......

JUST a thought...Trust me it's just a THOUGHT but it MIGHT fly... Pray for someone w/more knowledge about veneer than me sees this BUT... IF the bottom of your speaker is good and the same color would it be possible to NEATLY & CAREFULLY surgically remove a strip the exact width for the lower front of the cabinet from the bottom rear? Lil skin graft??? I dunno though... Just thinkin outta the box... Could be sweet and could be a disaster if it splits. OR possibly just get a close match on the stain and stain it? OR just leave it alone?

I had to sand the bottom of that one. Had the water damage as I said in another post. Sanded quit a bit and it's still veneer. It's pretty much ready for stain. I don't want to try the sanding trick on the rest of the cabs. If the birch piece works, I want to get the risers, and then go after the color match. I know it won't be exact but I'll get it pretty close. These weren't the best example of Heresy II's, so I'll make them better and just listen to them.

I'm pretty sure that's what it is. Both sides are "cabinet grade" birch, but it has a plywood core. It must be used for building models, or something. I figured it would work OK for what I need. Here's a link. I just bought a piece today. Seems OK.

RB-81 II's would be a good choice for the RC-62 II. RP-160M's with the 440 or 450. Either pair may work fine with either center though. But, if I was to choose I'd go with the aforementioned.

I'm only looking at repairing the missing piece and very small piece on one of the sides of the same speaker. I'm not doing a full resto. Just enough to get by for now. I think a pair of slanted risers and a recap may be in order next.

Does anyone know what thickness of veneer that Klipsch used on the Heresy II? One of the ones I just purchased is missing the strip on the bottom front. It appears as if it's 1/16", at least close with a ruler. They are birch. I'm having trouble finding 1/16" Birch veneer anywhere near me, but there is 1/16" Birch plywood. I figure it would work fine. If it is a little thick I'll sand it down from the back side. I have to color match the stain so I'll be testing on a scrap piece anyway. Let me know if you know what it is exactly, or if you think the plywood would work. Thanks.

That was cool. Going to have to save this for when I upgrade my sub amp. Have two UMax 15's that I've built/finished and the amp that I was using to run one, bridged, falls on its face with two in stereo.
So, I delve into the heavier side of things. My tunes of choice. Dig this one. Video's kind of lame, but you get the point. Not G rated by the way...
