Wheels of Fire and Disreali Gears two of my favorites. Wonder if they pondered all those wasted years apart at the peak of their talents?

Dave A, I think they believed that the band had run it's course and that the white boys blues-->acid rock jams/excess era was over. You have to remember that Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker were not friends by any stretch of the imagination. Basically they hated each other. Clapton stated that after listening to the debut album by The Band, he said this is what I want to be playing, roots music. I think Blind Faith was an attempt to veer off in that direction and EC enjoyed playing with Delaney & Bonnie, the opening act on Blind Faith's only tour. Of course Clapton later became a captive to his drug habit and was unable to play publically or commit to being in a band.

There is a video on Youtube of Ginger Baker doing his Toad drum solo. I can see why there was a big circle of people around him in utter silence as he played those drums. Now the thing is the video was done when he was playing the Albert Hall in 2011. My favorite all time drum solo and the old gray haired dude does not miss one beat.

I saw the Cream reunion tour here at Madison Square Garden and that they were great. They were not going to go out there and embarrass themselves. Opening with 'I'm So Glad" they tore it up. Ginger and Jack brought great emotion with their playing and Clapton was his typical stoic self, little to no interaction with the audience with note perfect playing. Live Cream Vol. 2 was one of the first 5 albums I bought with money from my paper route, so I have been listening to them for a long time.

How long ago did you see Fogerty? I love his music, but I saw him a month or two ago with my friend and his wife, and left feeling surprisingly underwhelmed. He played for just over an hour, and he barely spoke to the crowd between songs. It was as if he wanted to play the show and run off. Same thing happened when we saw ZZ Top perform a couple years ago. They didn’t even speak to the crowd during their whole set.

Crazy how all the artists that signed up for Woodstock have to get paid. They will try to do whatever it takes to make the show still happen. It’ll be interesting to see how this progresses.

Pretty sure it was back in 1996 after the settlement of his legal squabbles with Fantasy records and he was finally able to play his Creedence material after nearly 2 decades. Opened with Born On The Bayou, track one of the first album I ever bought. Ran through all of his CCR hits and worked in songs from Centerfield, etc. The crowd was pumped, folks singing along and he did several encores. Great band with Kenny Aranoff on drums.

As of now there are only a few artists of that generation I would still go to see. For most the ship has sailed and their talents with it. Not to single them out, but why go see half the Who? McCartney's voice is shot, so I am glad I saw these guys when they still had it. It's like when the great drummer Bill Bruford, (Yes, King Crimson, etc), retired at age 60. He stated he did not want to embarrass himself by making the mistakes that come naturally with age. We have all seen our sports heroes linger on the field too long, same thing with musicians. Only a handful can still bring it in their later years.

  4. Sorry but I wouldn't go if you paid me. The last one (25?) turned into a shid show with several rapes and assaults. Filthy animals, no thanks.

PS: John Fogerty was one of the best 10 concerts I have seen.

  5.  My father was a tail gunner on a Martin Marauder B-26 bomber during WW2. He was shot down on his 21st mission while over Italy. He never said much about his combat experiences, limiting his stories to funny occurences etc. When asked how he was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, his answer was, I got shot and I took some shrapnel. His medals he arranged in a frame prior to his death and my brother allowed me to take them and display them in our house. A few years back I put them in a new frame and they look great again.

My brother wisely gathered all of the papers concerning our father's military service and had them reproduced on acid free paper and gave me a copy. He also forwarded a copy to the National WW2 Museum in New Orleans. They contained all of his Red Cross correspondance while he was a POW, letters to his folks etc. We found out through his records that he weighed 96 pounds when he was liberated by the British Army in May of '45. American POWs were not immediatly repatriated back to the States, as the military did not want their families to see them until they had put on some weight. According to dad POWs kept their long hair so that folks would know to give them some extra food from the little bit they had.

When Americans were captured their names would be read over the German radio. A fellow soldier in England heard my father's name and recognized it from their neighborhood in Brooklyn. He wrote his folks and his mother knocked on my grandparents door to tell them their son had been captured. Up until that time they had only been informed that his plane had been shot down.

  6. Nice to hear some good news for a change, I am happy for both you and your brother Big Stew Man. I for one oppose the ban and wish you would stop by more frequently to fill us  in on how things are going for you. Take care of your brother and yourself.

I could not be more happy with my BGE. If I had to do it over again I would probably get a primo. The oval shaped one my friend has with split grates and ceramic is better set up for high temp and indirect. I can do more than enough ribs and any combination of things my large BGE.

Its warming up right now for jerked chicken. 10+ year old gasser in the foreground rarely sees use now.

Mel brooks is easily one of my top favorite comics.  if you can't make fun, then you just don't have a brain---his philosophy rocks throughout time.

Moses: The Lord, the Lord Jehovah has given unto you these 15...Oy!Ten! Ten Commandments for all to obey!

     A classic Mel Brooks scene.

Nada, zip. Must have been the special moderator PM. I don't have the decoder ring to retrieve it.

Turns out my boxes weren't empty after all. I'm a bit disappointed, guess I will just have to find a place for these so I can make the boxes empty.

  10. I remember when Hurricane Irma slammed into Savannah, Georgia in 2017. My aunt's house took a hit and by the time she called for repairs to her roof she was told that there were over 50,000 repair orders on the books in the city and surrounding area already. Sometimes the scale of the damage needs to be put in perspective. From what I saw from news reports it looked like some areas of the Panhandle were scrubbed right down to the sand.

    Indeed.

    1309 days and counting.

Pretty sure I will be laid off before that. I am caring less and less with each passing day. I can file for SS in 2  1/2 years, that will be game over for me.

  12.  That is an impressive lineup, I have seen: Clapton, Derek Trucks, Jeff Beck, Bonnie Raitt, Jimmy Vaughan, Buddy Guy, Los Lobos, Robert Cray & Sonny Landreth. This show would be right up my alley. Los Lobos put on an amazing show, you never know what they will play and Sonny Landreth is a Monster slide player. Enjoy if you go.

  13.  Seizures like this give you some idea of the scale of the drug problem in this country. If this is what was caught you can only imagine what is making it through. We have no one to blame for this problem but ourselves.

  14.  To tell you the truth this has been one of the most boring NCAA tourneys in history. There have been some great individual efforts and the spotlight on some very good players not usually seen on national tv, but no major upsets. I don't think the whitewash of Wisconsin would count. If Duke had lost that really would have wiped out most of the brackets in the country, but thanks to a bum call, they skated through. No Cindarellas makes for a dull March. Hopefully things pick up this weekend.

  15. I don't find having to drop a cd into my player to be a terrible inconvenience. If I plan an extended listening session, as when guests are over, I drop 5 into my changer. I also have the capability of streaming from my Icloud library through my Ipad mini into a USB port on one of my amps. (using the DAC within said amp.) I think it sounds fine.  To my ear, cds sound best to me. Down the road, it is inevitable to integrate a computer into my rig, but for now I am fine with the way things are.
