  1. I agree, this is very likely, many personal mp3 players have a built in EQ, sometimes they are defeatable, sometimes they are not.
  2. For the following explanation LFE or .1 mean the same thing oldtimer- This is a very common misconception. In regards to any sound processing that has a .1 (such as 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 etc) the LFE/.1 is a dedicated channel independant of the others. The only customizing available is a one way street ---> Bass information can be pushed to the subwoofer The LFE information or .1 information can not be pushed to the main speakers In regards to home theater bass is not simply bass. There is bass that is directed to the right/center/left/surrounds that you as the user have the option to redirect to the subwoofer. Then there is a dedicated bass channel which is the LFE/.1 which can not be redirected to any other speakers, so if you have your LFE channel set to only reproduce LFE/.1 information below 80 hertz you are simply cutting out a chunk of sound between 80 hertz and 120 that no other speakers will "pick up". So a simple and very generalized setting list for the vaguely "average" user would be Mains --> set to small and crossed over at 80 hertz LFE ---> crossed over at 120 hertz This will effectively use the subwoofer in a dual duty manner, the subwoofer will be playing both the LFE/.1 channel information AND all bass information below 80 hertz that is too low for your main speakers to handle or receiver amplifier is able to reproduce effectively/safely. The crossover setting on the main speakers is optional, while the LFE/.1 crossover setting should always remain at 120 hertz.
  3. Just wanted to point out- LFE- the dedicated subwoofer channel on your receiver is usually frequencies below 120 hertz (according to dolby and DTS) So you should not be setting your LFE for anything lower than 120 hertz or you are actually cutting out LFE information! [] LFE information is NOT reproduced by having your mains covering things down to 80 hertz, since in any format that has a .1 (dedicated LFE signal) there is no option to send any LFE information to the mains, only the option to send lower frequencies to the Subwoofer so that the Subwoofer can pull double duty and handle both LFE and lower bass frequencies that the mains/center/surrounds can't handle efficiently. Example: I set my mains to be crossed over at 80 hertz LFE set at 80 hertz Result: I Have effectively cut out the LFE range between 80 hertz and 120 hertz! [] WHY WOULD I DO THAT?!! So many people (including myself at one time) thought that 80 hertz was the perfect setting for both the crossover set point AND the LFE setpoint, until I realized that I was cutting out LFE information unknowingly. Most Subwoofers can handle up to 120 hertz, and with Audyssey equalization to help flatten out the frequency response even subwoofers that can get a little sporadic when played up to 120 hertz can get a greatly flattened response.
  4. Bill I have plenty of pics of grey grill cloth, but I need pics of black speakers with grey grill cloth on them.
  5. So I need to replace the grill cloth on my Klipsch KLF-30's and have been tossing around the idea of going with a grey fabric instead of the black. My wife is VERY understanding of my hobby, but she doesn't think it will look good. So her and I agreed that if I can show her how it looks good on other speakers that I can then do it. Does anyone have pics of black cabinet speakers with grey grill cloth? One other question, is there a type of grey(ish) or black(ish) grill cloth that is semi transparent and you would be able to see through it to view the woofers/mids/tweet? I think it would also be a cool option to be able to see drivers while also having the protection of the grill cloth.
  6. Lol, I would consider selling it or trading it for a klf-c7 though. Trying to decide what I'm going to do with this thing. Maybe I will just replace the tweeter diaphragms in my KLF-30's with the Titanium ones from Bob Crites to get them to at least sound similar to the RC-7's titanium tweeter.
  7. I really did have to bite my tongue! I hope to be able to really listen to it tonight and see how it matches up to my klf-30's. I don't know if the Iphone has an app like craigsnotifica, just get an android phone!
  8. I found a guy on craigslist locally that just posted an RC-7 for $20 because he just got a BOSE surround sound and "didn't need/want the RC-7 anymore" LOL! So my question is whether the RC-7 will match up ok with my KLF-30's theoretically speaking? I won't be able to try it out on my system for a while and thought I would get the thoughts of the experts in the mean time. Sidenote: The only reason I was the first person to catch it on craigslist is because I have an Android phone (HTC Hero) and I downloaded"CraigsNotifica" and app that immediately notifies you when there is a new listing in your area with your preset search criteria. If I didn't have Craigsnotifica I would not have caught this smoking deal.
  9. Once I can afford new crossovers I will probably do that upgrade, but till then some simple eq management will do fine in my case.
  10. Bump since I am looking at purchasing one of these models. I would assume that some simple equalizing is all that is needed to boost the lacking midrange, but it would be nice to know what frequencies are lacking so you don't have to do your own testing (I don't have test equipment)
  11. Here is a link to when I had to repair one of my KLF-30's. http://community.klipsch.com/forums/p/130214/1317116.aspx#1317116
  12. I never stated that anything is "a miss" just wanted verification that what I had read could possibly improve the sound.
  13. The specs are on Klipsch's model pages, but either one is a winner. Look at the specs, they are basically identical, which is why I ask if I am missing something because it looks like they are the same speaker (other than slight difference in dimensions) They did use different woofer and passive radiators, so is there a big sound difference there?
  14. I think I will go with the KG-3's or KG-3.2's whichever I can find first since there seems to be virtually no difference between the two, am I correct in this assumption?
  15. Why only the ouside top of the horn and not all over the outside of the horn?
  16. So I have read that horns can resonate and it can be advantagious to wrap the high and mid frequency horns on my KLF-30's with something to help deaden the plastic horns. What is recommended for wrapping around horns or spraying on them to get a more deadened result? Also, should I be really worried about slightly changing the volume of the inside of the cabinet of the KLF-30's when I do this?
  17. I am knocking around ideas for a new bedroom theater experience. What would be a good set of klipsch BOOK SHELF speakers that are discontinued that have some good bass response. Looking for something that I may have to refurbish but can find for a sweet price. Any certain models that REALLY jump out for good bass response (and of course sound great through out all frequency ranges) I am not opposed to passive radiators.
  18. I agree that it won't be a brick wall. In most quality subwoofer plate amplifiers you see some sort of a subsonic filter around 20 hertz. As far as the slope of the filter, who knows, and you most likely won't get any information from klipsch tech support. As far as using these amps for your Tubas, probably will work fine, at least until the amps decide to die prematurely (a major issue with a lot of the Sub-10 and Sub-12 amplifiers)
  19. Yes it does have a limiter on it to prevent over excursion below the tuning frequency.
  20. Yeah, I hope it works for you! The audio glitching on Uverse boxes through HDMI has been a known issue for a long time now, I am surprised no one at ATT told you about this. When the installer came out to trouble shoot my audio glitching it was the first fix he recommended and said he had seen the problem a lot.
  21. I had the same issue, was told by an installer to use an optical cable for audio, which fixed the problem permanently for me. No audio problems since and I couldn't be happier with Uverse since they have also started adding more features with their DVR boxes.
  22. Looks ok, hard to tell the quality of the build from the pictures though.
  23. I live in Kansas, I have 3 Sphynx cats that my wife and I absolutely love!! Both my wife and I are allergic to cats, so these little guys work out great, the most personable cats you'll ever meet. We bought these guys used [] and got quite a deal on each of them.
