  1. Ok, so taking this picture made me wonder if anyone else had some funny Home audio pics. This is a picture of one of my Sphynx cats "Meshach" Until I get a new audio rack he has room to crawl on top of my receiver and get cozy warm. I know that I shouldn't let him sit on it, but I just can't help it.
  2. It is useless to have two fans -one pushing in and one pulling out, because the two fans will only push as much air as one of them can push. If you want to use two fans, then have either two pushing in (with just a duct for an exit) or two pulling air in (with just a duct for an entrance) I have a lot of experience with hot air exhausting, and it is a very common mistake having one fan pulling and the other fan pushing, but once you think about the concept it makes sense.
  3. I bet that the problem is the loose wire!! []
  4. Thanks for the input, I hope that the mismatch in efficiency doesn't cause issues. Wuzzer, what city do you live in in Minnesota? I am originally from Roseville.
  5. I may be finding a new room to put my home theater in, and their is a possibility of adding rear speakers for a 7.1 configuration (though I am currently using phantom center) I am wanting to add a QSC PLX amplifier to just amplify my KLF-30's and then possibly just run my surround speakers and rear speakers (RSX-5's) off of the Denon receiver. Does this sound like a good idea? I am very pleased with the RSX speakers, so please don't suggest that I move away from them, just wondering if I will NEED to get a separate amplifier to power the surrounds and rears in order to keep things matched. I am trying to budget things out, and if I know in advance that I will need a separate amplifier for the RSX speakers then it will change my budget for the QSC PLX amplifier for the KLF-30's.
  6. if you copy and paste the link it works
  7. Here is a good link, helps explain some horn vs. direct radiator differences, fun read. http://www.enjoythemusic.com/Magazine/manufacture/zingali.htm
  8. CECAA850 I won't defend other horn designs that may have some major issues with frequency response, or have issues going anywhere below 20 hertz. The points you bring up seem perfectly accurate. I will however defend the specific application of the Tuba HT, There are many people that have posted their graphs using REW on avsforum.com. The frequency response in most of the posted graphs drops off anywhere between 12 hertz- 16 hertz depending on the rooms they are in and placement of the sub. The DTS subwoofer sounds like an awesome sub, but the price is more than double what a THT is, so it is out of my league. For my applications I will be using Transducers to mimmic frequencies below the frequency response of the Tuba subwoofer. As far as flattening the bass response of a horn subwoofer, this is a nothing that Audyssey along with a parametric EQ can't flatten out to be similar to a direct radiating subwoofer. Thank you for not flaming me, and having a very civil conversation, I appreciate it. This is a great forum of mature people.
  9. I don't have any links to studies, but this is one of the great benefits of horns in general- low distortion at higher spl with less power needed
  10. Compared to direct radiators horn subs have less audible distortion
  11. A couple of tuba ht subs can be built and amplified for under a grand and have all the output needed with a ton of headroom to spare to keep up with any Klipsch speakers. Even one will keep up quite nicely. Long live horns!
  12. I second the Tuba HT recommendation, and would also agree with you (inventor) for the RSX-5 speakers, a very good speaker dollar for dollar. Keep an eye on ebay for the RSX-5's, Klipsch sells refurbished pairs that go for under $200 (a pair!!!!!) directly on ebay which is how I purchased mine (~ $160 shipped) The RSX-5's will match up perfectly with the Tuba HT with a crossover point of 100 hertz. I built my Tuba HT with the help of a friend and I am so very happy with it's crazy efficient (under 200 watts for crazy bass) design.
  13. I now am looking at setting up my system with an amp for the main speakers, so I need to know how to set up the system with Audyssey regarding gain settings, I have no idea and can not find anything by doing google searches or searches on other forums.
  14. Where can I get information on the fan replacement?
  15. Why are the PLX2 amps so much better? From what I see I would be paying ~$200 more for a PLX2 amp of comparitive wattage to the PLX1602
  16. Looks like the qsc plx1602 would be perfect for the job, now i just have to find one for a sweet price
  17. I have spread them out since I took that picture.
  18. Would this guy match nicely? I've heard good things about behringer. http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/EP2000.aspx
  19. So I have read a lot about how your mains don't really come alive until you get separate amplification for them. I haev been skeptical, but I do realize that many of you guys have been in the hobby for longer than I have been alive... so please help me pick an amplifier. I am trying to stay towards the "budget" side of things, though I am not going to tell you a limit in $$$. My main focus is to get amplification for the KLF-30's that will take me into the realm of new found detail and dynamics without being grossly over kill, paying for a name, or paying for pretty lights. Am i correct in wanting an amplifier that does 2 x 250 watts in order to get the head room and dynamics I am looking for?
  20. Nice job on the build, what kind of sub did you have prior?
  21. You can build a Tuba HT subwoofer for under $500 amplified and finished (I built mine for under $700 including amplifier because I wanted a beefier amplifier than what I needed) and it will not disappoint.
  22. I purchased the plans here http://billfitzmaurice.net/THT.html
  23. Let me know if you have any questions at all, it can seem a little daunting at first, but it gets easier as you go. Good luck on your build!
  24. From what I've listented to I have to agree Michael, the THT sounds a lot like an awesome ported sub, obviously without any port noise. I just gotta make this thing look like a piece of furniture so that it blends into the room, I have to wait till it gets warm outside to paint it and make it look pretty, c'mon spring time weather!!!!
