  1. Not trying to ge an AZZ, but you are just being pain STUPID!!

Get in the vehicle and GO!

Not kidding here, it is a NO-BRAINER!1 Especially with the cost of gas1

The K-43E is rated at 200 watts RMS instead of 100 watts RMS, but won't put out as much Bass at low listening levels.

Myself, for the home, I would put K-33E's in there anyhow.

IndyKlipschRoger is a member on the forum here in Indianapolis and a best friend to Michael Colter and had 7 of these for his home surround sound system.

You can buy these and still make money if you do not like them!

They are worth $1,000 US with all the driver working!

    Get your Butt Driving! :)

    Roger

Lol Yeah I can't go until tomorrow even if I do, I'm waiting to hear back from the seller. First message to him said he already had someone coming to look at em this afternoon, no way I could have beat that time anyway. ;) If they are still there tonight I will see if he's there tomorrow and make a plan from there.

  2. Thanks guys, it's actually $300 OBO. I just have to decide if it's worth the 10 hr round trip drive since he doesn't seem to be keen on shipping.

BTW anyone have specs on these? I can't seem to find any information on them or the La Scala on the Klipsch site, only the version 2.

  3. It is based on at least several factors.

    - order of the electrical crossover

    - phasing of the drivers

    - distance between the drivers

    - depth of the horn

    - crossover frequency

It all depends on if the crossover when completed creates a good smooth transition between the drivers and if their sum together can be smooth or create a major notch in the crossover / overlap region.  If there is a notch, many times reversing the phase on the driver will help the crossover region sum more correctly with some associated tweaks.  Design choices.

Ah yes the horn depth/size must be the factor I missed. Thank you very much for that. B)

  4. Just trying to understand why the tweeter is reversed in some of the RF series and not in others?

I thought it might have been the fact the HF crossover is a 4th order (I might be wrong on that?) and LF is 2nd order (again could be worng on that)

But I see that is wrong as the RF-7, RC-7, RF-5 all reverse the tweeter but the RF-3 which has the same layout does not.

  5. You couls also try offloading a bit of the upper bass to the sub and see if you like that or not. Bump it up to 100-120hz and see how it sounds, you can normally get away with that high before it becomes localized.

As GP says the 81's just don't have the displacement for the impact your looking for.

  6. 20' x 30' is quite large.

    Don't worry about bi-amping.

Your set-up is third generation Reference and, imo, plays very well with Onkyo receivers.

I don't know your budget, but try for at least a midrange model. The model number will start with "TX-NR", then look for the first # to be 5 or 6. Such as TX-NR545, or slightly higher model TX-NR646.

The higher 7 or 8 models are often considered the sweet spot for performance, but may be out of your price range if you're buying new. For example, TX-NR747.

The middle number will tell you how old it is, for instance, TX-NR838 is slightly older and slightly better than the 747.

The problem with the new Onkyo receivers is the room calibration or lack of. I looked at them before going with the Denon X4100W, that was the biggest draw back. Just a opinon but something a new buyer should be aware of if HT is the main focus.

  7. That's actually a pretty large area to fill for home theater for those speakers. I have the RF-35 system (8" version) and half your space (12' X26') and they are just about the right size.

Reguardless I myself like Denon and anything within the 90 watt per channel and up would drive these fine, I would not bi-amp these speakers I doubt you would benifit much if at all.

  8. I would say it depends on where (size of room) you using the speakers and what your using it for, home theater would be my guess?

It's a pretty low demanding system so a lot of recivers should work fine with that setup.

  9.

Hi and welcome!  I started out just a few months ago in build my first Klipsch system (replacing a mix mash of gear I'd collected over 20 years before)   My room is a bit bigger and so did the quad ATMOS ceilings but all in all (and yes; adding the 2nd sub did a lot of smoothing even though the total volume is the same as when I just had the one.  Nice add, when you wants to end of your list IMO.  I do absolutely LOVE my Onkyo and certainly is easy to use and more power than I expected.  Hope this helps and good luck in your set up.

    Nice information there.

Iam planning to use the same CDT-5800 drivers for my atmos ceiling configuration.

Question: Can I use flat gallery Klipsch speaker on the ceiling and I will have the same results as the 5800s? I have some gallery units with me, but Iam worry about dispersion thing...

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

From what I have read you can use a small bookshelf like the gallery to bounce off the ceiling for atmos but you would want a point source for overhead mounting.

I will have my Denon X4100W here end of the week plus 4 in ceiling speakers are here tomorrow, hope to get everthing installed over the weekend.  I went with the Denon over the Onkyo or Pioneer I was looking at due to the better room calibration software which does multiple subs as well. Plus you can get it for a really good price now since it's last years model, and has the option to get the Auro 3D upgrade if you wanted to go with that instead of Atmos or both.

From all I have read neither of these are main stream and only 60 title in Atmos so far, but there upmixers are supposed to be worth the price of admission. :)

To the OP, if it were me I'd want em both, if the price was right. The rf5 in my same room was a better sounding speak than the rf82ll. This is a slightly difficult room that it finally took the klf30 to overpower room effect. The rf83, which I owned two different times could not even tame the room.

Not really they are $800 USD for the pair plus shipping. That would would be around $1800 or a bit better for both pairs shipped I am guessing

Yikes, I'd pass on either @ $800+. You just need to keep an eye out for a better deal, imo. I paid $600 new at a dealer for rf5s, although it was a good deal. I sold em for 600 after a few years. I see em for 4-500 occasionally.

All just my opinion mind ya, good luck on a deal.

Lol not in Canada, seriously we get the short straw here on used or new stuff. Just check out some of the new prices, each RF-7ii front is $1600 USD  that's each speaker, you guys can get em for around $1800 both.

  11.

I'm guessing this is a good reason to go DIY rather than buy into the hype. <_<Wish the drivers looked better in the DIY stuff, I just really like the look of th Klipsch but might be time to jump ship.

What do you mean?  Not challenging you, I'm just not sure to what you are referring. :)

I think I've seen you on AVS.com.  Do you frequent the DIY section?  There are plenty of DIY True Believers there with regards to horn driven DIY kits.  B)

I do go there mostly focused on the Sub builds since I just built 3 JLW7 subs, 2 13.5" and one 12" which is why I need to upgrade the fronts now. lol Vicious circle.

And what I mean by drivers is I really like the copper/brass look and finish on the Klipsch, the DIY stuff looks like pro speakers (which is what they are) Nothign wrong with them, they have far better specs than the Klipsch just looks are not that great. I like to run my stuff bare no grilles so as much as it shouldn't make a difference (looks) it does for me.

I can build them fine just can't change the looks of the acutal drivers, pics of 2 of the subs I have built.
