  1. Heh, I doubt the vibrations from the Pro's sub would affect your tower, unless you have a very cheap HD, or anything like that. I say so, because I have a 12" sub pounding away about 2' away from my tower, and I've had no probs thus far, so I doubt the Pro's sub would cause any probs
  2. Damnit, why do I always seem to kill topix!?!?
  3. wow, 200 just for a pair of Titans? Well, the reviews I've read about them are fairly impressive, but that price isn't exactly the most attractive thing. For an alternate solution, look to the speakers I got for my HT/computer setup, the Acoustic Research 206ho's. A pair only costs 74.99 (they're discontinued), and they can beat the holy hell outta ANY multimedia speaker out there (and probably give those Titans a run for their money too). They have a 6" driver, and a .75" tweeter. I demo'd the v.2-400's for about 30 mins in an audio booth, and in a diect comparison, they sound a lot more tinny, they have less life to them (just how they feel), and they can't go 1/2 as loud as these babies. To get the 206ho's, if you're interested, check egghead.com. Oh, and to Billie Jean, check out these 206ho's before you go for the Quintet speakers. I also demo'd the Quintets, and while they could go louder, and stay clearer than the Pro's sats, they're still no match for the 206ho's.
  4. Ya, as long as you have a valid reason for spending so much to make your computer into an entertainment hub, go for it! I'm not using any klipsch products in my setup (I just went full, blown out HT), and I couldn't be happier (heh, be even happier when my speakers come!). My reasoning behind this is currently, I'm in 1st year college, and still at home. My parents have NO need for a HT on the tv in the living room, but I want HT sound. Therefore, I started building computers for friends/family, saved all my pennies, and am spending about 1400 Can. on my sound system alone. Now, at least in the comfort of my own room, I will be able to enjoy the fruits of my labour, and so will anyone else who wishes to enter my room While I might not be going as far as purchasing a 24" screen for my system, I'll be picking up the Viewsonic PF790 in a little while, which isn't really a bad purchase. Anyone else out there spending extremely large quantities of money on their computers?
  5. If you're referring to the PF790 for 640 on that site, don't bother. I'm in T.O. and that monitor can easily be obtained for 590, probably less, if you have proper connections
  6. 256 mp3's are cd quality. 128's were generally used because they provided sufficient quality for lesser computer speakers, and they were easier to download 320 mp3's are kind of an enigma for me. Some people I know have somehow turned 256 mp3's into 320 by using sound editing software, and cleaning up any distortions.
  7. Heh, I can't make sense of it, but ya DO have the same reciever I do I have mine hooked upto my Acoustic Edge. Unfortunately, I won't be going through this process till my speakers come (not Pro's, bookshelves), so I can't really help ya out there. If you're only gonna hook things like Pro's upto the reciever, take it back, but if you have actual HT components hooked upto it, then KEEP IT!! hehe, it's damn saweet If no responses turn up here, head over to 3dsoundsurge, and ask around in there, since they deal in this type of stuff all da time.
  8. Oh I thought you'd never ask Heh, the system I refer to in my price estimate is the system I'm building right now. I'm not gonna bother listing links, just goto these sites, and look up these components for the best price. www.pricegrabber.com www.pricescan.com For a reciever, Yamaha HTR 5250. 500 W total, and quality wise, EXCELLENT For the sub, I got the Sony SAWM40. a 12" sub that beats the holy hell outta the Pro sub, but I will admit, it's a tad bit slow for music. If you want a better sub, look at the JBL PB10 For the 4 corner speakers, Acoustic Research 206HO's. Normal price/pair is 250 USD, but these speakers are discontinued, so they're only 75/pair. They have a 6" mid, and a .75" tweeter, and are of VERY high quality. They can be found on egghead.com For the centre channel, the Acoustic Research CS25HO. It has a dual 5 1/4" driver set with a 1" tweeter. It too is discontinued, and is only 79 dollars at egghead.com Of course, to purchase all these items from the sites I've provided, and to ship to your country would cost a LOT, so what I'm suggesting is you go to a speaker store, and start looking around at what they have, and demoing them.
  9. To tell the truth, for all those added expenses you're adding to order the Pro's from the states, you might as well take roughly that same amount of money, and buy a home theatre for your computer (I'm talking a good reciever, 5 speakers, and a sub). The prices you listed would make the Pro's over 600 USD, and for about 650 USD, you could piece together a system that would, in every way blow the Pro's away (of course, you have to pay more, but since you're paying more anyways, you might as well go this route).
  10. JBL PB12. It's only 250 USD, and performance wise, it's EXCELLENT
  11. GET THE SONY!!!!! lol, I just got it 20 minutes ago (unfortunately, that's all I got, speakers will probably be a couple days away), and all I have to say is WOW!. I listened to the Pro sub for 20 minutes in a small audio store, in a listening booth, and I listened to the 10" Quintet sub, and those can't even hold a candle to this thing! Already, my ears are in pain, and that's just from turning the damn thing upto 10% volume! (I LOVE RECIEVERS!!) As for music, well I played some mp3's with it, and it seems a LITTLE sluggish in those parts, but it's still damn saweet
  12. Oh, and as for that one for 129? I tried to use Borderfree.com (very easy to order stuff from states to Canada using this) to order the sub from this place, but Borderfree told me that you CAN'T order from that site, so take it for what it's worth.
  13. Well, I ordered the Sony sub, and it'll be here pretty damn soon!!!!! I got it for 159 USD (from one of the sites I got from pricegrabber.com). Yea, musically it shouldn't be THE best sub, but ah well. If you DO want a sub that'll pound the living hell outta the Pro's sub, look no further than the JBL PB10. It's PERFECT for everything, movies, music, gaming... (only complaint is it's auto-off, so if you go TOO low, it turns itself off, but that's a small thing). The JBL can be had for 200 USD (check pricegrabber.com). The JBL PB12, a 12" version of the PB10, can be had for 250 USD, so depends on your budget. As for size, well, the Sony is a little taller, yea, but hell, if the JBL's are outta your price range, GET THE SONY!!!! It's pretty much THE best sub you're gonna find anywhere in that range, save for the JBL's. If you want nice, HUGE pics of all these subs, head over to http://www.crutchfield.com/ and look 'em up. If you are interested in the SAWM40, well, I ordered it last monday (I'm in Canada), so it SHOULD be here within the next few days, and I'll give ya some opinions.
  14. Yea, the Acoustic Edge isn't as bass intensive or treble intensive in it's volume control as the SB Live's. I actually like it, mainly because none of my speakers could ever HANDLE the amount of bass from the SB Live at full, but on the other hand, when I get my new ones, if I need more bass, I can always turn da perdy dial on my reciever
  15. WOOHOO, ordering speakers tonight!!! Heh, I don't have enough for the centre chan yet, but I don't really need it yet, so it's all good. Heh, they shuold be here in a week, and I can compare 'em to the brief encounter with the Pro's I had
  16. Heh, wow, lots of praise, I lub this! Heh, yea, setting up an 8.2 Pro Media setup wouldn't employ many Y adapters, but I'd think 3 Pro's would employ more, and splitting the signal from the sound card 3 ways? I dunno...
  17. Well, then we get back to the issue of price if you add a reciever to that setup. 3 pairs of Pro's PLUS a reciever (say the one I have) would be about 1100 bux.
  18. 3 pairs would be an interesting setup, but one thing I haven't figured out yet is how do you control the volume? I dunno if one preamp can control the volume for ALL 12 sats and 3 subs, and having to use the computer's volume control would be EXTREMELY cumbersome, so how would volume be controlled by one preamp?
  19. Heh, oh hell yea, ya cold always upgrade the components just a little more. But think about it this way, this is going in my room. My room is about 11x8', is on the 2nd floor, and my parents don't like TOO much sound With this setup, I'll be able to go loud, and the sub won't cause the ceiling below my room to collapse Anyways, I WAS gonna go with the JBL PB10, which would be a MUCH better sub, but I just don't have the extra 100 bux to shell out, so the SAWM40 is it.
  20. Oh yea, and I've been reading owners comments on this hardware from audioreview.com, so I know the weaknesses and strengths of this setup, and if all the dozens of people whos comments I've read are right, I'm gonna have one KICKARSE setup
  21. lol, how would I know how it sounds? I have the reciever and sound card, but the speakers I won't have till the end of next week. Heh, although, I HAVE been assured by lots of people on the 3D Sound Surge BB that the setup I'm going for will be as good as I've said
  22. Oh, don't think I'm anti-Pro Media either, cause before I decided to spend the extra cash and go HT, I was DEAD SET on buying the Pro's since they first came out. I've heard them, and am impressed with them, but then I thought some more, and decided why not just go all the way, and turn my computer into a full blown home entertainment system
  23. Actually, 750 for the entire system is what I'm paying. 360 USD for the reciever, 150 USD for 2 pairs of the corner speakers, 160 USD for the sub, and 80 USD for the centre chan. As for the quality of the components, they are FAR from cheap-o components. For the reciever, we have the Yamaha HTR-5250 reciever, specs can be found here (for a HT setup, this might not be THE best, but if you're hooking it upto ur computer, this is MORE than enough) http://www.electronicsemall.com/yamhtconsers.html Next up, for the 4 corner speakers, we have 2 pairs of Acoustic Research 206HO speakers. These speakers are discontinued, hence their low price, but when these babies were still in production, they sold for about 250 USD a pair. Specs can be found here. http://www.egghead.com/category/inv/00000501/03690060.htm Next is the centre channel. For this, I'm going with the Acoustic Research CS25HO, mainly because it's designed to be matched up with my main speakers, and it too is discontinued, lowering its price by about 1/3. Specs can be found here. http://www.egghead.com/category/inv/00000501/03690077.htm And finally, for the sub, I was originally gonna go with the JBL PB10, but since it would cost $400.00 Can total to have it shipped up here, I've decided to go with the Sony SA-WM40 sub. It's 12", and quality wise, probably one of THE best subs you'll find for under $400.00 USD (which says a lot, since this thing's only $160.00 USD). Specs can be found here. http://www.etronics.com/product.asp?stk_code=SONSAWM40&SVBName=30 Heh, ya see, by doing some searching, and choosing discontinued speakers, I've managed to put together a system that'd EASILY decimate 2 sets of the Pro's, while only adding $150.00 USD to the price tag. As for loosing the ability for 4 channel gaming, no worries, my nice, new Acoustic Edge takes care of that, since for gaming all I do is switch the reciever to use the anaglog channels from the sound card, while for dvd's, I set the reciever to use the digital, and I get VERY kickass sound
