  1. Thanks Wuzzer,I agree....every other room that I've had has had the seating position nearly up to the back wall...certainly much closer than this situation. Great advice as I don't really want to go down the EQ path again...it never sounds quite the same.
  2. Yes, about the middle of the room. Tried closer forward & further back, as well as to the side, but still get the same response. Bass is always weaker when sitting down than when standing up. The room is not strictly speaking 9m x 7m x2.4m rectangle. It is open to one side to another area. I'll post a diagram of the floor plan soon. Thanks, John
  3. Thanks Chris,I don't think I need to go to bass traps then. I've tried other positions but none seem to work unless I'm standing up. Seems I'm stuck with a bad room mode. Might have to bring out the EQ again!....or go back to reversing the bass cabs. Many thanks, John
  4. "I added a rug, thick oversized curtains, and some wall mounted cd racks. It really took some of the livelyness out of my room. IBSlammin brought over some room treatment panel and that was really cool. He moved them around the room a few times. I'd still like a couple of those." I don't think the liveliness is a problem but I think I need some of those room treatment panels or maybe those bass traps. Are the bass traps for removing excessive bass? Or might they distribute the bass more evenly throughout the room?
  5. No, I've turned them back to the normal position. After some extended listening I found that I was missing some of the high frequency info & a lot of the imaging with the bins turned into the wall (go figure). The bass was awesome with them turned around though. I'm thinking I need some room treatment of some sort but not quite sure where to start. The floor is tiled & I have thrown a large rug on the floor, but I guess the room would be fairly live even though the sound is nice & smooth & not overly bright. I agree I'm probably sitting in a room mode position where the bass is probably sucking out butit's impractical to raise the seating position as the bass sounds best when you are standing fully upright no matter where I am in the room.
  6. Running a set of La Scala 2's & the bass response varies at different positions in the room. The listening position is probably the worst spot for the most extended bass response. If I stand up from the listening position the bass becomes a lot fuller & subjectively more extended. My room is 9 metres x 7m x 2.7 metres. I have tried the speakers in different positions....When they are forward of the rear wall the bass is reduced...when they are pushed back against the rear wall the bass is increased....so I have them almost against the rear wall, toed in about 15 degrees & 400mm away from the corners. Any clues as to how to get the bass response I get when I stand up from the sitting position. Thanks, John
  7. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/p/114742/1157325.aspx#1157325 This is the link to the original thread which shows the build process. I've turned them around so that the front faces the rear wall. Any more questions just let me know. John
  8. This is my version Mahogany with Red Oak trim Very nice...well done.
  9. If you have them moved towards the back, are the tweeter and mid driver lined up? If they are, the time alignment will probably be the difference you are hearing. I mounted a pair of APT150s in baffles and moved them to the back of my LS, lined up with the K55. A dramatic improvement!Bruce Bruce, yes the mid & tweeter drivers are lined up, so you're probably right about the time alignment. There is a definite difference.....all positive.John
  10. Here's the Dope from Hope page from Paul W. I believe he had these in his home. False Corners.pdf
  11. Much prefer the sound with the tweeters in this position....more detail & more open sound.
  12. Timber block was 115mm x 115mm laminated cypress pine....cut to shape as you can see. Rubber buffers underneath.
  13. Then veneered the front below the tweeter horn so you can't see any of the joins in the timber.
  14. Made up a fame with 12mm x 12mm Tassie Oak held by right angle brackets
  15. Here's some pics of my completed tweeter baffles
  16. I would have thought that the K55 would be a better match for the rest of your components. The 902 is designed for a 2 way system & would probably be wasted if you only run it up to 4500 Hz. Would it sound any better than the K55 when used as a mid range driver? Not sure....I've never done that comparison.
  17. Thought this may be of interest to all those horn constructors out there. http://www2.117.ne.jp/~y-s/SS500.SS300katarog-e.html
  18. I'm sure the Cornscalas will sound great, but I can't go past the sound of LS 2's or K Horns. Have you had a listen to a pair of La Scala's? I'd do some extended listening before I commited to either design, as this is a very personal choice. Good luck.
  19. I didn't buy these speakers in Australia. I had them made & purchased all the drivers from B & K Sound (Bob Crites). You are right in that you hardly ever see Klipsch Heritage speakers for sale in Australia. Many years ago I bought a pair that were lurking in a store in Lismore NSW....& I remember seeing a pair in WA once....you just need to keep your eyes open. I don't think there is a Klipsch dealer in Brisbane, but the net can bring all these goodies to us much more easily. Yeah, imagine 7 LS's...must be awesome. That said, I think my LS's with a Velodyne sub pretty much blow anything else away!
  20. Working on some timber blocks as more permanent stands for the tweeters....probably go for 2 pac finish in black.
  21. You'd never think that 600mmm of wire would make that much difference!
  22. There must be more than 3! Where are all the aussie Klipsch addicts. And here's a few pics of the new improved setup. I've also changed the wire from the tweeter to the crossover from the original to some Van den Hull....(at least I think it's Van den Hull). I wired all the other components with the same when I had the cabs built.
  23. On my LS2's I leave the grille on the mid horn, but I have removed the tweeter from the cabinet & have it placed atop the cabinet with the voice coil aligned with the mid voice coil. Definite improvement on the top end with no grill cloth in front of the tweeter.
