  1. That's the one thing....The Prelude have a horn like tweeter (actually a wave guide).  As I've had a time to listen even further over the weekend....I think I've reached the point of diminishing returns (finally).  My beloved Cornwalls can do some things better than the Preludes!!!! That's why I'm not getting rid of them ... at all. I think this effectively ends my speaker journey as I can't see the point of throwing more money at minor improvements. The depth was a major improvement, however my Cornwall's mated with the Fostex super-tweeters - had a top end resolution that the Preludes can't match.   The Preludes give me feet of living space back, the Cornwalls have better dynamics (even though the Preludes dynamics  are great as well - If I would describe their dynamics - it would be more like my Heresy...but a little better, the Cornwalls dyanmics are better than both).

It's a compromise - but as I do not wish to sell my Cornwalls....I refuse to compromise!!!! If I ever get tired of the Prelude sound....out come the Cornwalls :D!!!!! I think I now have the best of both worlds.  If my room was bigger - no telling....If I had corner...Khorns, but I'm not moving anytime soon. Life is good with both the Cornwalls and the Infinity's!!!!

  2. Well, the verdict is in....the Preludes beat my Cornwalls....but not by much!  My modded Cornwalls are much more efficient (the new crossovers took them to 4 ohms speakers). However, the Preludes just image much better than my Cornwalls....the soundstage is just as wide and the Preludes front to back soundstage is bigger as well.  I'm not selling the Cornwalls though, I'm going to keep them! The Preludes are no longer made, and parts are hard to come by. The Cornwalls (well most of the Heritage series can be included in this), however are the Harley Davidson of the speaker world!  You can mod them to death, take them back to stock, and there are plenty of parts made for them!!!! I think I now have the best of both worlds with these two sets of speakers. However - I will need to change my signature, as the Preludes have taken center stage. I'm still a Klipsch head though!!!! If I only had a big enough room.....and corners...........

what I usually do, since I work in this field, is grab another pc, and a connection device to connect & mount that old HD via usb, copy desired data from it to a viable pc (that 2nd one) then if / as desired, copy again either to a long term backup location (archive type drive or set, NAS or the like) or to a replacement pc.  that's my preferred method of operation.

good luck.  keep us posted which approach you try & your results.  sounds like there are a few who can offer advice or support.

    What he said....

    A+ certified :D

  4. Really?   $750 seems a little high based on what they look like.    He will probably call you back when they don't sell, your offer was more than fair.

Agreed, my Cornwalls look way better than those LS's !!!! $750 is a bit much in my opinion (considering the condition).

  5.  I'll let you know if I'm willing to let go of my Cornwalls. I actually have three...two regular Cornwall 1's and 1 Vert. Mine have ALK vB crossovers, Crites CT125 tweeters, and custom smoked glass tops.  They are finished in Oiled Walnut - they are mighty fine speakers indeed. Grills are 100% and they also have the Jubilee Copper insignia (along with the ALK insignia as well). One other bonus, they each have the Heritage brochure tacked on to the back of the speakers as well.

I'm not sure on getting rid of these, but if I do - I'll PM you unless you've already purchased some. I'm about 232 miles away from you in the Florida Panhandle about 25 miles south of Brewton AL.

  6. anyone know of the reliability after their fixes? I've always been a Yamaha guy but with my new setup I could expand past the 5.2 I have setup right now. also location?

They seem to have gotten this right - everyone I know of in the forums (this one and Bluray.com) have had nothing but success after the fix. The warranty is attached to the serial number of product (not the owner) - so they will honor the Nov 2018 date.

  7.

here's the thing...you are investing in speakers that should last a life time. don't go cheap on the gear. the receiver is so critical to your HT dreams.

it's been said, ditch the idea about ceiling speakers for ATMOS. get the real ATMOS speakers and use those 2 ceiling speakers for some Zone 2 stuff. (or depending on timing, i may buy them off of you).

for HT....i'm talking movie watching only....not some closet 2 channel guy....this advice is just for the person who only wants to watch, hear, and feel the movie....

    you have 2 routes.....

    1. get a really good AVR. Onkyo seems to be the top of most lists for just HT viewing. their price point is typically a touch lower, but have as many or more features. you also can't go wrong with Pioneer Elites and some of the other high end receivers. so basic advice, stick to an AVR that is their Flag ship. then, you also want to buy an Amp. really, any name brand amp will do. used is a great way to save some cash, as long as it has the required watts. EVERYBODY on this forum knows Klipsch are very efficient, so don't get crazy with the amp and get your head all twisted and think you need 400w per channel.

most of the good AVR's right now have ATMOS and 2 sub outputs, so you don't have to wait for that technology to drop. what you need to check for is if they have the new HDMI requirement (HDMI 2.0 - with full HDCP 2.2 support).

    2. Separates. Emotiva. you will want an XMC-1 with either the XPA Gen 3 or A700 + another amp. that's the silly part about ATMOS. you will only find 7ch amps (right now) so you need at least 2 of them. also, the XMC is not ATMOS or HDMI ready (yet). it will be a few months before the first one is released. the top of the line with ATMOS and DTX will be $3K, add in $1900 for 7ch XPA, and $400 for 2 ch amp....that could put a very serious dent in your HT budget. it's the most expensive route, but you will have the best set up you can get.

i'm not just suggesting Emotiva, even though i love their gear, other companies like Outlaw (to name 1) have or will have something similar.

if you want most bang for your buck...find an older Flagship AVR that has ATMOS, 7.2.4, and purchase the A500 ($500), have the AVR power the 4 of the surrounds, the A500 power your LCR and ATMOS speakers. you should be able to find a really good AVR for around $500. that's a $1k investment, the amp will never "go bad". you can use it in the future for "upgrades" (you know you will do it), and the AVR can live out it's life in a second Zone room.

im confused about the first part of this? You say ditch the ceiling speakers for atmos and get the real atmos speakers? What do you mean by that?

Agreed - ceiling speakers work much better than "bouncing the sound from the ceiling" that Atmos speakers claim to do (they do it - but you've got a point source with ceiling speakers).

  8. Ok, I've gotta get in on this one - Here's a picture from a friends house the other day in Woodlawn Beach (Navarre) Fl.  This is in the back yard!

  9. May I ask what it was needing repair?

It was the all too familiar HDMI/Ethernet board issue.  Onkyo has replaced the board and it has an extended warranty until Nov of 2018  :D

It works perfectly since the repair. I've since moved on to a 11.2 prepro/receiver and its a shame this one is just sitting around.

  10. SOLD!!!!

Unit has been repaired by Onkyo and is currently under warranty until November 2018!!!! I have the original box and I have Audyssey mic, remote, and manual. Unit is very clean. I've never driven speakers with it - I've only used it as a prepro.

  11. Funny how some vehicles come and go, start with a crap product and are soon gone or start with a crap product, Hyundai, stay the course and now build some competitive products. My BiL worked at a Hyundai dealership when they were first introduced and he told nothing but horror stories on their initial build quality. Looks like they got it figured out unlike our Yugo friends.

The Genesis is a monster car!!!! I just love it!!!! I got my 2011 in '12 and only paid $28k for it!!!!
