  1. pite, Thanks, I am really astonished by them. I don't want to overstate things but that's how it is. The bass extension is incredible. I'm a huge sub junkie and I often don't use them lately. The sound in the midrange is so alive. I would say its the all around detail is what impresses me most. They do have power and to take a stab at a joke they get me emotional. Thanks, Nic
  2. Dennie, Well put, I've been lusting for the bluray. As one member put it...Elvis Costello is one lucky man. I'm guessing he's had a good influence on her as well and gave her children too. Thx, Nic
  3. Dennie, Thx for the rec and info. Funny just watched Paris again. I just got a new Oppo 95 which seems to pull alot out of older formats but the video quality on this wasn't what I'd hoped for. I expect to be watching it again anyway. She's just such a pleasure to see and the band is very fine. There's nothing like an upright string bass. Nic
  4. elite, Your comment is well appreciated. This economy has destroyed a lot of people and its not that long ago that I lived below the poverty line. The difference in the speakers wasn't easy for me to absorb at first. I couldn't hear it at the store. I reasoned that if they put that much time and effort into things it had to be better and I would notice it when I got them home. Here's an example, one day recently I went out of the house and nearly ran like blazes when I came back in because the voice coming from my center was so life like it was uncanny. I've heard other people talk about how great speakers sound like the real thing not from a speaker and that was just one example. Another difference is (really a similar kind of comment) is the music sounds very organic and alive. The highs and lows are extended and the mids are "where we live" according to Paul Klipsch. A member of the NY Audiophiles who has a system to die for told me something similar about Klipsch. I have to tell you I was very happy with my 64 and 83. I went through some real serious consideration until finally I decided I may never have this chance again. Its also my only hobby except that I have to go on a trip with my wife now and then because that's her love. I know it sounds odd that "I have to go" but I'm a real home body. My system is a tremendous joy to me and those are the main reasons I could justify such a purchase as modest as it is by some standards. Hope that helps you to get the sense of my experience. Nic

    p-39f cost

Paul, I got a fantastic deal but I'm not ready to talk about it for a couple of good reasons. I think you're in the ball park though. Nic
  6. It was inappropriate for me to disclose what I paid for my center but if anyone is really serious about Palladiums PM me. Nic

    p-39f cost

Paul, I paid $4150.00 for my gently broken in 37s and $3k for my 27 demo; all in perfect condition. Obviously, I'll be looking for used P39s or P17s to complete the system. I auditioned the P-39s and they are huge. I'd love to get them in my cave but you certainly make a good point as it may be years before can afford a pair. I believe today I could get a pair for 14k (demos). There is something about the artwork in the cabinetry that adds to the sonics which also adds to the cost. The gentleman who owned my 37s before me used the them as a stereo system and told me he is going to invest in 39s after selling off some of his other (many many) high end speakers. He said he wanted to be sure the Palladium line was all it was cracked up to be before he spent the big money. He said he had owned $50k speakers at one time. Worth 20k? I could not afford that presently but $14 is a little tempting. I have also to admit there is a bragging rights quality to them. Its not right, just human nature but it is kind of fun to be a sort of celebrity and have your speakers be the object of awe. Its not entirely unwarranted because they sound spectacular (imho...a phrase I almost never use) in so many ways. I'm satisfied. On the other hand, I could barely afford $8k (if I had to pay retail), but I would give it some thought. Additionally here is always the desire of the purchaser to prove the wisdom of the purchase and I doubt I'm above that as I'm human. Again, there are more mature, objective comments that would be less like my kid who just raided the candy store opinions. I'm also brand loyal and loyal to the forums where I've learned a great deal, where I don't always hear what I want but more like what I need. Maybe some of them will chime in. If you read Stereophile, your opinion is one side of a raging battle especially between those who either own or lust after $50 or even $100,000 speaker v those who don't want to pay more than $250. In today's economy, good speakers are about, dollar for dollar, as solid an investment as real estate oddly enough. They certainly could be argued as a selfish luxury item while children are starving in East Africa. But there rears the lesser side of human nature again. All told in general I tend to lean toward your side of the question but I'm going to get possibly a lifetime (I'm 56) of joy from these speakers. Electronics change almost daily but a good speaker will hold its value and justifiably so for a long time. Maybe twenty years and then there are rebuild kits for the really good stuff. Hope any errors in composition, etc, don't take too much away from the reasoning in my opinion. Thanks, Nic.
  8. JB, I'm afraid I'll get tarred and feathered for the location they are in now if I present a photo. However, I'm not really that much of a care what others think kind of guy and I'll get something up for you before too, too long. My "excuse" for the mess is that we have a leak in our new home's basement so we can't finish it. Oh yeah, I have another "excuse", I'm too busy listening. I'll have to wait till next year after a huge snowfall to find out if they really fixed the leak or not. I certainly won't make you all wait that long for a photo. In fact, I think its a great idea to post Palladium system photos. There have to be some absolutely gorgeous ones out there but I've never seen a photo. I bought the espresso. I really wanted natural but the price was right and the gentleman I bought from on Audiogon agreed that natural was the way to go and the price reflected that. I got them just broken in for $4150.00. I had to pay $3k for the 27 demo unit. I honestly think I could have gotten a better deal but the salesman out in Pennsylvania was a real straight shooter so I didn't mind paying. By the way thanks for all the good wishes from everyone. At this moment I'm in seventh heaven. I'm listening to Count Basie Meets Duke Ellington SACD and its picture perfect for stereo listening. With the Pals I also find I can enjoy my music better at lower volumes so that improves the WAF by miles. She deserves it with all she has put up with me and my avocation. Thanks to everyone to helping me get here through all my incessant questions and misunderstandings. More are on the way. Our local audio boutique almost talked me into B&W Diamonds but when it came down to it the Klipsch Forums weighed heavily in my final decision. I really hope you, who are talented craftsman, designers, and engineers, will post some photos of your Palladium systems. Nic
  9. Just got my P27, and P37s last week and all I can say is, "good grief, these are great". Now I'm looking for some P-39s. or P17s. I've never listened to a speaker that would be suitable for HT in stereo until I heard the 37s.
  10. CfKsB, Thanks plenty. We are waiting to see if our leaking wall in the basement of our just barely moved in home is finally fixed. Once that is done then its to making that space livable and very comfortable. We still haven't come up with a theme yet but it seems like its going to be a homespun kind of scene not a typical theater like one. I can guarantee we will have comfortable chairs! Nic
  11. Dysmae, I decided to go ahead and make the purchase. The price was good. Almost half price and only a few months old. I figured this may be the last set of mains I buy and although I will listen to a lot of 5 channel music (I'm buying a demo P-27 from Ron and Bobs for $3k) with either rf7s or 83s in the back, I wanted something that was going to work well with the Denon 11.2 channel system I had previously as well. I'm keeping that as well because I read DTS has committed to that format. I almost jumped ship and went with the huge B&Ws it didn't make sense for that reason (they won't match my other Klipsch) and because I really didn't like the B&Ws...awfully expensive as well. Now I can use some of that money to fill in the extras I've been wanting. I also believe that the P-37s are going to sound better as time goes on due to the horns calming down and because Its hard to appreciate something after racing to get there for three hours and knowing you have to race back. I will have them in about a week and I am very excited to hear them in my own home in my own comfy chair and nothing but time. I can't imagine them not sounding great with the amount of time, effort, and excellent materials that go into them. I trust Klipsch and the forum. Thanks for your comments. It helps to know one isn't completely crazy. Palladium...wow, what a great wife I have because she really doesn't get this hobby at all but she still supports me. Nic
  12. I'm happy with my Emotivas and may buy 5 XPA-1s. They look great in your set up. I love the neatness. Coming from one who is not neat, if you band your cables together it will make it look close to perfect. Nic
  13. I think they were more detailed than my Reference with 7s and 83s (I have 5 channel set up now) but they didn't jump off the floor and say wow, I'm the greatest compared to the Reference. It was hard to say since I couldn't get all the adjustments I wanted due to the nature of his set up. They were good enough for me to want to pursue a used pair of P 37Fs. I really was hoping to be bowled over by them but that didn't happen. My ears could be shot too. Nic
  14. By the way, thanks for the encouragement, I guess Kansas would be more of a challenge but I read somewhere that there are only about ten Palladium dealers in the US. Not sure if thats correct but who would think there's none in the NY metro area?
  15. I made a six hour round trip two states away to hear them.
  16. Palladium on Long Island? I would be extremely appreciative if you could let me have a listen. I'd like to buy some but there's no place to hear them but for three hours drive away. So, make a liitle boy happy and let me hear your system please. Thanks, Nic
  17. Forgot, should I ditch the idea of emotiva and go more conservatively in watts with something like McIntosh or Bryston? You know something with a more established brand. Thanks, Nic
  18. I'm thinking I might go with an three Emotiva XPA-1 for my three fronts. Is this overkill or will they thrive on this kind of power? By the way, I don't have a center if anyone knows of one. In fact I don't have anything. I'm still in negotiation but I think I'm the first in line. Nic
  19. OK, Maybe about $65.00. Again, nuff said.
  20. Definitely below the belt since you know I've given you gifts that come close to a hundred dollars or more. Nuff said.
  21. Thinking about downsizing. What would you go with re above. Haven't picked out amps etc but will be maybe around $10k not including speakers using separates. Will use for HT as well.
  22. I've been watching these DVDs endlessly for a a few days.and enjoying the heck out of them. My Salesman, Crown, is a great guy who also enjoys her and we talk about the lady. We're also going to the show this weekend in the City which I'm looking to never having been to a big show. But I digress. I love the string bass and fine guitar work as well as the great drumming. I hope there are other's out there enjoying these great DVDs. I only wish they were Bluray. By the way is that Clapton with hiis hair grown out playing guitar? Anyway chuckle chuckle. When I first got the Quiet Nights SACD I didn't see the value of her work and sold it for five bucks. Someone kick me in the behind please. I'll let you decide whether a chuckle is appropriate. Probably not. Maybe just a smile. Nic
  23. By expensive I mean Bryston or the like.
  24. Say I have under ten thousand for my 11.2 system which you can see below or in my profile. How about seven xpa 1 and two xpa 2, and sell the xpa5? Or should I go expensive on the front end and less on the back or bookshelfs. Any light is helpful.
