  1. I've shown you all these photos because the WAF is working hard to me prevent me from closing up the room with a fourth wall. I'm thinking that's unacceptable acoustically and I'm going to have to use every trick in the book to see that one goes up. She's wonderful other than this aberration. She wants natural light behind the proposed wall so its really not an aberration. Woe is me, I'm going to have to resort to the truth. Thank you for indulging me as this is the only thing standing between me and my own little piece of heaven on earth.
  2. Thanks, especially since I've found what I really want and think I can afford. A Velodyne DD18, Too much with the RT12d or use the DD and sell the RT? I'll be asking around so don't worry...all opinions welcome. Thanks again.
  3. I can see from your system that you're not kidding. Not to be the Fox and the sour grapes but my theater is going to be in a townhome. Its an end unit with a firewall separating us but I don't have to tell you that it would still be a case of a whole lot of SHAKE'N going on with a bunch of massive high end sub power... even if I had the $ to make it happen. It seems like the best thing for me is to enjoy what I have as its most likely going to satisfy me. Thanks for helping me think it through.
  4. I can get the Energy cheap for $800. I really want an 18 of some kind but its only 400w and no room correction. I'm also considering adding another RT12d instead ($1500). With an 18X16 space I feel like mabye I'm good with just the one RT12d. My Denon has ouputs for three subs. Convoluted question I know but please suggest. Alternative options welcome as well. Thanks, Nic
  5. Wescott, Your comments are always welcomed. Nic
  6. Thanks James. The thing is the basement has got to be something like a thousand square and its all behind the theater area. None of that space is good for a theater. In my newest wierd brainstorm I hang the screen facing the long wall with most of the speakers in an arc along with it. I don't need much space behind the seats because, at present, I have the surrounds parallel to the seating area and I love having that much access to that sound if I want it. I feel truly surrounded by sound that way. The WAF is going to be a real problem. Nic
  7. I'm building in an 18X16 room and I feel like I'm on the cusp of needing a second sub. I realize that my RT12d is almost certainly outclassed by one of your JLs. Yet I'm under the impression that my music was not going to benefit to the degree that movies will with a second, JL or something comparable. The RT12ds seem to be scarce especially since I'm not going to pay any thing near MSRP. I'm pretty happy with it even though its in a smaller space and I have no way of placing in an optimal way. In other words I'm not sure what its really capable of. When we get the keys to the new home on the 21st, I'll start experimentation. My question to you was aimed at your real life impression of how the two JLs affect your music vs movies compared to one sub. If your telling me yes, there is indisputable difference, not on paper, but to your ears, I would find that interesting and compelling. Nic
  8. Also, the system should sound a lot better with room to breathe; With some space/air between the speakers.
  9. Impressive system. Must be great for movies. I'm a big music fan. Do you feel like the subs are useful in this realm as well or can I get by with one good one?
  10. James, The height speaker should be angled towards the listener and the configurations are iffy too. Everything will be corrected and no more dust and clutter. Nic
  11. James, I'll probably come up with a picture for you if you will please excuse the mess as we have been in a state of flux for over a year with regards to moving. I should have it up in a day or two. Thanks, Nic
  12. James, The speakers form kind of an ellipse like the curve of a football sliced in half through the longest ends. Its hard for me to fit it into a picture but another example is that of a long bow and the arc it forms. Nic
  13. Thanks James. I'm using a 9.1 system with RF7 front, RF82 wide, RB81 front height, RC64 center, RB35 surround, and RT12d sub. At this time I am going under the assumption that the front height speakers are better than using rears. That's what Audyssey believes. I might set it up both ways before I build just to satisfy my curiosity. I've experimented with the wide channel some in the present smaller space and I am tempted to think the 82s will fill up the wings if I go that way. I'm glad you think a mate for the long wall isn't necessary if I set up as you suggest. Nic
  14. Picture of empty space of new HT. Any and all comments appreciated. My info and questions are posted in the HT section of the forum. I will repeat if necessary.
  15. This is my new HT. Empty space is appx. 16 X 18-4 (using the upstairs dimensions). My wife does not want a wall parallel to the long wall so I'm considering setting it up with the screen centered on that long wall. Especially since I have the wide/height option with the Denon I think it could work. We are only having one row of four seat and I'm planning a screen of at least a hundred inches. I know its unconventional and I would appreciate input. Any thoughts, suggestions, and reminders about any aspect of this HT are welcomed even though I am going to have a pro help me design it. We are not taking possession of the property until August 21st and I want a head start. I have not decided if its going to be a DIY build or not but at least some of it will. I don't have all the skills but willing relatives and friends do. Thanks, Nic
  16. The Soundstage is incredible. Now a fan of Petty which I was not before. I don't know if its still available but I got the bluray for around five buck from Amazon. One of my best purchases yet. Nic

No but I love the Wooden quote. Nic

    War Movies

Thank you very much for your quote. It says so succinctly what I feel about the subject. Two of my favorites are Saving Private Ryan which is in a class by itself and Black Hawk Down. Nic
  19. Thanks Bill. No, I didn't. It was very thoughtless of me. My only defense is that I was so frustrated that I acted without thinking. I can see I woke up a number of forum members who expressed good will and humor (at least to one another) and that's not a bad thing. Nic
  20. Amy, how do I change my password from the temp sent to me??? Thank you. Nic
  21. I noticed the stand issue was addressed in the Manufactors' Comments section on p 107.

    The Blind Side

handrewmoore, I have to agree with you this far...formulaic, bland, and predicible. However, I like the idea that people would put themselves out that far to help a homeless person. I've done that a few times (not to brag, but for fact) and its not easy by any stretch. Sandra was good but not an oscar winner in my mind. Nic
  23. Ym, I just visited a high end av shop who was using packing foam for acoustic panels. Good or no? Nic
