  1. Welcome to the forum tnaratil. I've got a Yamaha RX-V663 and have been very happy with it. Its last years (probably close to two model years old soon!) model I believe the V765 is the comparable version now. The 665 has less power than the 663, but if you're going to use it for a pre/pro that maybe a good one to get also.
  2. Hi Brian, I've got a few pairs of Forte IIs so I'm familiar with the sound of them. I sent the crossovers out of one pair to DeanG for him to rebuild them and also went with titanium tweeter diaphragms from Bob Crites. Since I've got more than one pair its easy for me to compare the difference, and I can say both helped a lot. I know Bob Crites also sells replacement crossovers or you can send him yours too.
  3. Welcom John. What area are you located?
  4. I bought some higher grain sandpaper than I had at home. I'll probably start on the Academy I'm selling first since its oak oil. My education begins... []
  5. Yeah Bob's site was the first place I looked since I knew I was going to be ordering caps from him anyway I could kill two birds with one stone shipping wise. But it doesn't look like it would be close to what the 2.2s have factory. I'll probably just order something from partsexpress.com and hope for the best. I was just hoping that someone on here had already gone down that road and would chime in with "order part #12345, it matches perfect!" They aren't that bad really, one just has a stain that has kind of bleached (for lack of a better work, not that extreme) out one spot on the cover. I wonder if I just took a can of black satin spray paint and lightly misted them both so they'd match if that would look ok. Maybe there is some spray die I guy could buy at like Hobby Lobby. For some reason I'm reluctant to go the paint route, in my mind I fear it will effect the sound since it will clog the grill a little bit. I'm sure thats ridiculous but it comes to my mind every time I'm about ready to get the paint out!
  6. A Jacksonbart thread without any humor. Very disappointing!
  7. LOL! My system looked that way a month or more ago when I sent my crossovers to DeanG. Luckly I had a spare set of Forte IIs and an Academy to get me by until I got them back. Who is doing your crossovers?
  8. I've got both Forte IIs and a pair of Heresy (not sure the proper plural for Heresy so I just say I have a pair... [:$]). If I had to pick on of the two as my only pair of speakers I'd pick my Forte IIs. I'm assuming Forte/Heresy would be almost the same.
  9. Thanks for the response CapZark. I'm guessing I'll have to sand the one down to get the stains out and then figure out what to put on it. Since there is no way they will match I really will have to refinish them both. It too bad the other one is close to perfect.
  10. I've seen them go as high at $900. $400 models will likely be Chorus Is. Quality Chorus IIs usually go $600 to $800 in most cases. I too have seen them sell a lot cheaper than $900. But CapZark uses an important word: Quality. Don't let my or anyones elses price advice make you miss out on a nice pair of speakers. Use the advice to guide you so you don't end up buying a pair of James Limborg's Chorus IIs with a buy it now price of $5000 on ebay!!! But on the other hand if you plan to keep them for years than really what is a little more money if you find a pair of minty Klipsch speakers?
  11. another bump. I'm getting ready to get this project started so point me in the right direction before I hurt my Forte IIs!!!!!
  12. bump. I've got them sanded and am painting them today. They are turning out great!! Now I need to figure out a fix for the grills
  13. +1 based on what I have owned you won't be disappointed. I can't comment on what you'd be missing on the Chorus IIs since I've only heard them but never owned a pair. I think you have to own something and spend some time with them before you can get a good feel about a pair of speakers.
  14. I'm assuming something on parts-express.com has something, but has anyone used something they found that looks factory?
  15. I did a search and only Heritage info comes up. Anyone have a suggestion what I could use for new grill cloth on a pair of KG 2.2s I just got?
  16. The bar is more of a local sports bar so they probably have not had the work out a dance club would give them. I'm just thinking the hours of use for years on end. The woofers for example have moved a lot more than a pair that sat in someone's house and got listened to once in a while vs bar speakers that have played for 10 hours a day 7 days a week for 20 plus years. You'd think they'd wear out just like anything else that moves. I agree with what you're saying about the cabinets, but if the tweeter, mid and woofer all do decrease in sound quality with the kind of hours these have seen than in the end I'd be money ahead waiting for a pair that lived a less active life unless the price is right. That is what I'm trying to figure out in the end I guess. If they are in good shape (they hung from the ceiling so I've never seen them in the flesh) but will need to replace drivers to get SQ back I need to figure that into my price.
  17. I've got a line of a pair of LaScalas that were used in a bar. I could only guess how many hours these things must have on them!! Do speakers wear out with use? If a guy listens to them and all the drivers work do they sound the best they can? Like for example if the tweeter works does that mean that the diaprhagms are fine or do they wear out over time and lose some sound quality?
  18. bump Anyone out there refinish oak clear?
  19. I might have an Academy for sale soon. Oak oil and in good shape. Not sure yet but will probably decide tonight or tomorrow which direction I'm going with my set up. PM me if you're interested.
  20. I thing that is more of an oak oil look. Come on you refinish experts give me some advice!

  22. You said "There are a set of 4 kg 5.2's and a kg 4.2 (as center) available for $400" Two pairs of 5.2s? If they are in nice shape I'd say the two pairs of 5.2s are worth more than $400, and you're getting a matching center for free!
  23. Another vote for the KGs. For that price you are getting a whole HT set up that will sound great together. If the 4.2 is too big then find a 2.2V or a pair of 2.2s and just use one of them. I had 5.2s in front with 3.2s in the rear with a KV-2. The KV-2 was the weak link there. If I had had a 2.2V I dare say I might have stayed with the KG HT set up a lot longer. In my search to replace the KV-2 I found an Academy which started my move over to Forte IIs. I think the Chrous IIs you're looking at are priced a little high IMHO.
