  1. I never got around to doing a factory reset but my son wanted to watch The Last Airbender tonight so we watched it and we didn't have a single center channel drop out. I should still do a factory reset but knowing me I'll never do it until I have another problem. Knock on wood I wont have a problem!
  2. I upgraded my firmware tonight and am watching The Way Back on blu ray. I've had a few center channel drop outs, which was never a problem watching movies in the past. I think it has happened mostly when I rewind or pause. When I did the firmware update I did a factory reset first and then loaded the .07 firmware. I forgot to do a factory reset when I was done and started programing it again. I might do a factory reset after the movie is over and then reset it up again and see if that helps.
  3. I agree with nezff. It hurt my pride to set either my Cornwalls or my Forte IIs to small but it does sound so much better with a sub. A sub is made to do one thing and do it well, a regular speaker can't compete with a sub for sound quality down low.
  4. that is one big paragraph! Its hard to read when you don't break it up. [] I notice in your signature you're going to a SVS PB13 Ultra from a Sub 10. You are in for a treat. The sound quality will blow you away. Its kind of a you don't know what you were missing until you hear it kind of deal. I went from two Sub 10s to one SVS PB12-Plus/2 and there really is no comparison. Not just the amount of bass (I have more than I'd ever need now) but just a better over all sound with music and especially movies! To the OP, if you're happy with the sound of the Sub 10 then keep it. If it dies it dies, not much you can do really... other than put it back on craigslist while it is still alive and be done with it. There are better subs out there than the Sub 10, in this hobby there are always better components, you just have to decide when you're happy or when your checkbook says enough is enough or it will never end! I never had a problem with either of the Sub 10s I had. I bought them both off of ebay from one of the Best Buy returned items sellers that are on there and they worked fine. I didn't have $200 in the pair so I wasn't too worried if they died. When I bought my SVS I sold them on craigslist for what I had into them with some kind of audio karma in mind and never have missed them. When I first got into this hobby I read a few times to buy the best sub you can afford, I didn't get it at the time but now I do. YMMV
  5. I called Emotiva today to see where my 40% discount card was and while I had them on the line I asked about the XMC-1 release date. It sounds like they are shooting for the end of the year. I figured I let everyone know if they were waiting for the XMC-1 it will probably be a while.
  6. cs, did you buy them or ever get access to the insides? -Noah I got busy at work and kind of forgot about them. They are far enough away that I really don't have time to get them, but in a town I goto from time to time. Had the timing worked out I would have tried to get them while I was going there anyway. I see they are off craigslist now so maybe they are gone. I hate to email the guy and waste his time but if I'm heading that way I'll reach out to him and see if he still has them.
  7. Harmony One has been great for me. I've owned other Harmony remotes but found I like the button layout of the One the best.
  8. I see one part on the crossover thats not orignal and I"m not sure what it is, but the two can looking caps should be replaced. I've read people put different caps or something in to attune the output of the tweeter or mid range if they feel one is too bright compared to the rest. I wonder if that is what that black thing is. I think you mentioned the prior owner had redone the crossovers but it looks to me it still needs to be done. Give Bob Crites a call/email and he'll hook you up. You could also get the rubber gaskets that go between the mid driver and horn, and cloth to recover the grills while you're at it.
  9. I could be wrong but I think all that is being recommended is that take the screws out of the woofer, turn it 180 degrees and reattach the woofer in the same manner as it was before. Very easy. The logic being that it has sat the way it is for over 30 years and that has effected the voice coil. Turning it 180 degrees will apply pressure the other way. I'm pretty sure PWK has the internal dimensions of the box right, I'd be reluctant to increase the cabinet size, you'll probably throw the whole sound out of wack doing that. The Heresy isn't big bass producing speaker but its not the end of the world. I've owned a few pairs of Heresy and they sound incredible with a sub. Before I butchered a Heresy cabinet trying to get more bass out of it I'd go the easy way and buy a sub. A sub will give you improved sound quality even with larger speakers that have better bass response on their own. Both my Forte IIs and Cornwalls also benefit from having a sub in the mix. I agree with Ironsave about getting a sub and just working around your neighbors, I think you'll enjoy the difference a lot regardless of what speakers you're using as your mains.
  10. They originally had risers on the bottom that angled them upward. Both of the pairs of Heresy I owned didn't have risers either. I think it was an option for quite a while, not all of them had risers from the factory. The first pair I bought the guy threw in some speaker stands that raised the speakers up about 6" and tilted them back. It made a big difference. I'm sure you can find some cheap or make some speaker stands yourself. Like all speakers placement makes a big difference on the sound.
  11. Now if you find a pair of Corns for $400 find the money and fast! That would be a cheap price. Then find another pair of Heresy and use one for a center channel, the Corns for your mains and the other pair of Heresy for surrounds and you've got a Heritage 5.1 HT setup! Ah the addiction grows... [6]
  12. He is asking $200, and you're going to offer $200, man you drive a hard bargain!!! If everything works I'd say a pair of Heresy are always worth $200. Sad but true they are worth more than that in parts on ebay. I'd never do it but you see tons of guys parting out perfectly good Heresy on ebay all the time and get more than $200 for the sum of the parts so I can't think you'll lose. Same advice as on the Forte IIs, if you don't like them, resell them. I don't think you'll get hurt on $200 Heresy. As far as how they compare to Forte IIs or Cornwalls I'd say they don't. I think both the Corns and Forte IIs (never owned original Forte) sound much better than the Heresy because of the weak bass response of the Heresy. With a sub Heresy sound great and take up much less space than the Cornwall. If you have a sub you'd probably set the Cornwalls to small anyway so then Heresy are better matched in that comparison.

  14. This are 1985s too so maybe there is something different about that year or years around then
  15. I found a pair of Heresy that have been relaminated and from the pictures they look nice. Grills need some work but over all the speakers look good. Then I noticed the wire connectors were on the bottom instead of the top where all the rest of the Heresy I've owned have been so now I'm wondering what else is wrong with them. Has anyone ever seen a pair of Heresy come this way factory?
  16. I faxed in the floor plan of the upstairs of the main level of my house to both HSU and SVS and received great advice from both companies. I've got vaulted ceilings, and the one side of the room my HT is in opens up to a split level foyer and the rear of the room opens up to another room. Probably close to the worst room to have a HT set up in, but its what I've got to work with so... Anyway they figured out I had a lot more sq ft to fill than I realized. They both came up with the same number and both recommended a lot larger sub that I thought I needed. I couldn't be happier with the size of sub I have now and I'm glad I went with one as capable as they recommended or I probably wouldn't have been happy and been shopping again. Or I just wouldn't have known what I was missing. Either way I recommend touching base with both SVS and HSU and see what they have to say.
  17. You're lucky to live somewhere that has such a steady supply of Klipsch. I usually have to drive 6 hours to the Denver area to get my fix.
  18. If you think one RW-12d does a good job then I've got to think you'll be even happier with two. I'd try that set up before buying something else. Oh yeah I remember that, that was a great deal. Which Yamaha receiver did you get with that package deal?
  19. OK, I see you're talking about a 12" HSU now not the VTF-15H. What is the model number of the HSU you're looking at? Where can you buy a RW-12d for $350? That sounds like a great price on that sub if thats the one you want to go with.
  20. Thats more inline with the what I would expect to hear comparing the Klipsch RW-12d to the HSU VTF-15H from the guys I talked to that owned it when I was shopping for a sub. The four I was looking at were SVS PC12-Plus DSP vs SVS PB12-Plus DSP vs HSU VTF-15H vs used SVS PB12-Plus/2. I went with the used one because for the money I felt it was by far the best deal. But I did talk to a guy who had the HSU VTF-15H that acutally had owned the Klipsch RW-12d and he said it was no comparision. The HSU stomped the Klipsh so I was suprised to read above that you thought they might be equal.
  21. Which subs from HSU are you guys talking about? When I was shopping both HSU and SVS had a few different models to chose from, from budget average subs to great ones. I'm just wondering if all the comparisons are apples to apples. I'd call HSU and SVS and tell them what you have now, explain to them or fax your room dimensions and see what they recommend.
  22. SuBXeRo --I can't get the bold to go away because I cut and pasted your name. I didn't bother typing it because all of the caps mixed in with the small, and I'm lazy. Just buy the darn things and try them. I'd be shocked if you don't like them, but if you don't just resell them and move on to your next Klipsch adventure! Don't paint them until you know they are going to be your's a while because I can't help but think you're killing the value doing that!!!! Tried to edit it again and still can't get rid of the bold.
  23. I think you're forgetting that the dollar amounts we are talking about are from over 20 years ago!!! You say Reference are...more expensive speakers then you go on to say the that the Cornwalls are more expensive than RF-7. I guess I'm just totally confused by your post, it seems to contradict itself in a lot of ways.
