  1. Couple of weeks ago I scored some clean forte IIs at a garage sale for 100 bucks. Today I picked a clean one owner marantz 2245 of craigs list for 140 I am on my 6th CD now and cant beleive what my ears are hearing..Cant put the thing down. All that feedback around the net on how good these sound, all true. Amazing bang for the buck. anyone reommend an affordable decent CD player to complete my littel nirvana here? currently just using some cheap toshiba player, If this thing opens up with a better CD player I am not gonna get anything done..gona go broke with music in my ears...
  2. Unless your kids are uncontrollable Tasmanian Devils, I'd say that was pretty darn rude. You should have suggested she take them on a walk to the park so you and the seller could have some man-bonding time. She had cats that she was afraid would get outside.
  3. I have listened to the forte II next to the heresy II. I was shocked at how much bass the fortes had. The heresy need a sub to compare. I did feel the heresay was better sounding speaker for my tastes in music. They just sounded more dynamic. more open. more like the band is right in front of you. They just dont have any deep bass. I choose the fortes since I didnt want the complexity of having a sub and i have the erge to listen to music with deep bass on occasion.
  4. I have forte II setup for stereo and music. I find that they need to be about 14 inches from wall to get the bass kickin. My room being really small this erks me. I really want a speaker than can give good bass but be closer to the wall like 6 inches. I was thinking about trying some choris to compare but the specs do scare me. the choris are go to 45hz where the forte ii goes to 32 hz. The only back to back with klipsch i have heard is when I bought the fortes. I comparred them to my heresy II. The heresays just had no bass (63hz) althogh I thought they were more dynamic than the fortes. ideally the heresy plus sub would have been a better overall combo but I dont want to use a sub, nor did I really like the size and shape of the heresy. I havent done any upgrades to my fortes. I prolly should as everone raves about it. I have just been itching to try to improve what i have. Was also considering trying some KLF 10 with upgrades. How are rear ported speakers for placement?
  5. I just scored a mint pair of forte II at a yard sale here in tampa last week end. he was asking 125 and took 100 for them. Funny he has another set of klipsch in his office that he is also considering getting rid of. He said they are same as fortes but slightly shorter. I assume they are quartets but they could be KG4s. I didnt get to see them because his wife didnt want my two little kids going into the house. i am hoping he decides to sell them, hoping they are quartets.
  6. Wish I would have seen this thread a few days ago. I have a peachtree audio decco. uses a single 6DJ8 in the peramp section. Just bought a few tubes to try from a vendor in spain. My plan was to have them cryo treated which suppossed to dramatically improve sound quality and reduce noise as well. I will report back in a couple of weeks when they are ready to test. will do noise test before and after cryo with following tubes. EH 6922 russia Bugle Boy holland NOS 6922 Puillips/ Holland NOS 6922 Siemens Germany NOS
  7. I am leaning toward using an apple tv with external HD conversion for music storage of new music and eventually all music. problem is I am not interested in storing music in compressed format. The major music site like amazon or I-tunes does not have much music in lossless. And even the lossless download sites dont offer much variety. I have been anuble to find a site that has my favorite music fo downloads. ( yello, art of noise, flim and the BB's, kraftwerk, etc.) My question is how do i get all ny music interests on to harddrive? do I just focus on buying the CD and copying then resell? or is there another practical way?
  8. I am wondering when you use a CD player for a transport does the quality of the player really matter? For sound quality anyway. Its not hard to read 1's and 0's. Its the conversion from digital to analog that determines what the sound will be like. I have cheap toshba DVD player that I am currently using with my Pioneer elite, forte II setup. The player sounds better than both my blue ray, and other cheap phillips dvd players. the new amp I am going to try is integrated with a DAC as well. The decco from peachtree audio. I an wondering if i will get better sound by investing in maybe a 3-500$ used player. But my gut feeling is since its onlt reading digital from the disc, I wont hear a difference with better cd player. Anyone have experince with just changing transports?
  9. I have 500+ transactions on E-bay. I have been scammed for close to 3000 now. The largest being 1100$ plasma welder I never got. It looks to me like an obvious scam. I feel very bad for you. It hurts to loose money to theives doing business for a living. It hurts even more when its your hobby money thats being taken. There are some internet crime sites on the net. They will take this case for you. They will likely get best results.
  10. Well the fortes definately have more bass.I am worried it might be too much depnding on how this setup turns out. I have another amp on the way. The "decco" from peachtree audio. Also have Zu audio julian speaker cables and their entry leavel digital cable and power cord. They are running specials on e-bay so I picked them up for piece of mind. The decco sound like a sweet piece for the price. Some good threads on it around the net. Also considered the outlaw 2150 but the decco sounded like a better deal with Dac included. Input is fed through one tube so tube rollin will be easy, cheap and fun. So to come really alive with a seimans NOS tube form the 70s. Next item on the list is a decent CD player. Although i have my doubts i will really need anything that great since the DAC in the decco is suppossed to be pretty decent. So I just need a decent transport. Last I wanted the option of being able to convert music to computer. The decco has USB input so it feeds the DAC with a pure signal. Just gotta figure out whats the best way to get lossless files on the computer.
  11. Yes she wouldnt answer phone at midnite, but she heard it ringing. I didnt sleep till about 5 am wonding if I might get lucky. She finally answered 9 am the next morning. She sounded about 40 years old. I should have asked foe more details, but I was mainly disappointed that some one else got the deal.. Its okay though. I got my new Forte II thursday for 475 in like new condition. its amazing how good they sound for the money. To think I almost spent 1500 for a new set of B&W 683. My guess is there is not anything on the new market that sounds as good as these for less than 3000. Gotta love klipsch for making such an amazing product.
  12. forte II in the house. located a mint black pair here local for 475. I will now be needing advice on amp/cd/interconnects.
  13. Well guys after further research I feel safest staying with the heritage line. So the klf 20 and rf 5 are no longer an option. I really tempted to try the cornwall. Got the opproval from the wife for some menacing size speakers. Imagine that. Just bid on the cornwall III on e-bay but they went for 500 more than I wanted to pay. I think I will just look for an extra clean set of fortes. On a sour note the amp arrived today. It was a major dissappointment. The bass does not sound good at all. very muddy. I wanted to throw up after just a couple of CDs. That "how to mod page" gives good detail on how to make it sound like gold. I may try that. But I am just very discouraged that the seller just plain lied about the sound quality. This would not be my defintion of a good sounding amp. My 15 year old pioneer elite blows it away.
  14. Thanks guys. I did lots of research on the chinese amps. decided to give one a try. I liked this one because there is a good site about how to modify internals and make it sound even better. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110308528304&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123 music angel kt88 with upgraded fresh tubes. and how to tweak http://www.lampizator.eu/AMPLIFIERS/CHINA/KT88/Music%20Angel%20KT88%20reworking.htmlI have heard the choris II. a good friend bought a pair at same week. I thought my speakers sounded good till I heard his. The bass was staggering. leaning toward Forte or maybe even cornwalls. sound first looks second.
  15. Posted yesterday in south florida. I saw the ad at 11:30 at night and emmediately started calling. left numerous massages. the ad was placed in furniture which recieves 500 posts a day. the ad was placed at noon so I felt there was a chance they were not yet sold. I finally spoke wit the lady this morning and the speakers were sold. She asked if I was the one calling at midnight. She then sked what the speakers were worth. I told her they currently sell for 8000 new. there was breif silence then a disturbed "but they were 15-20 years old!" heres what the ad said: KLIPSCH SPEAKERS - 2 FLOOR AND 1 STANDALONE. GREAT SURROUND SOUND. MUST GO TODAY!! MUST BE PICKED UP TODAY and there was one picture of a beautiful wood grain horn in the corner. oh well... heartbreaker someone scored big
  16. I currently own some 1991 heresey II which I bought new. Absolutely love the sound save they lack low bass on my present 75 w/ch pioneer elite. just bought a tube amp off e-bay and I am waiting for it to arrive. I listen to quite a bit of bass heavy music and want to upgrade to something with fuller sounding lows. For me its sound first, looks second. I really like the look of towers and would prefer klf 20s over forte. I do not want to add sub. I just want simple 2 channel sound. Any advice on how these speakers compare for 2 channel stereo? thanks in advance.
